Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

Browser’s moderation was simple and clear, it was easy to understand where the lines were, and he was generous in his explanations and the time he dedicated to the constant complaints and differing opinions. I felt safe posting here with him in charge. It’s not always like that for women in political spaces, and I appreciated him.

I think it will be difficult to find similar high quality moderation from within the pool of choices

I don't remember seeing anything posted here pre-Browser that I thought was misogynistic or otherwise female-unfriendly. Do you have any examples?

by Crossnerd P

A moderator who is able to take feedback and modify decisions in real time is, in my opinion, an excellent mod.

An excellent mod would get the decisions right the first time. A decent mod is able to respond to feedback and I think it's great that Browser corrected himself in those situations where he erred. What I was pushing back against was the idea that his modding was clear and simple.

I stopped posting in this forum for years because I could not tolerate the sexist abuse that came with any complaint I made about misogynistic posting directed toward me.

Only once did I need to go to Browser for something of this nature, and he handled it so discreetly that you don’t even know about it. I appreciated his understanding of my position and the fear I had about making it publicly in the mod thread.

You’re ridiculous.

You’re ridiculous.

I don't see how.

You said his modding was clear and simple. I gave reasons why it wasn't. Then you used what I said to claim that that actually makes him an excellent mod, but the simple fact is that an excellent mod would not need to reverse themselves.

It's good that he did. It makes him a decent and reasonable mod. A bad mod would make bad decisions and then not correct them in the face of negative feedback. But doing so doesn't make him excellent and if it does in your book then your standards are set very low.

I couldn’t care less about your opinions, Luckbox

You should try to not say dumb stuff like you just did then and I won't have a need to critique you.

Well, the civility was nice while it lasted. Maybe we need a niceness enforcer.

Cross and I go back a long ways. I've got nothing but respect for her and what you just witnessed was the utmost in civility on both sides. Her undertitle even comes from me.

Most of my friends on twoplustwo were women. I left, and they left because the level of sexism, which i have complained about many many times on this forum, goes way way beyond anything normal or acceptable. I told Ray zee I would never post here again no matter how much you’d pay me. I did come back after a period of about 8 months after being asked to. but the idea that this isn’t a blatantly ridiculously misogynistic forum overall seems unbelievable to me.

OTOH, this is representative of much of the poker world and in this niche not the absolute worst offender so.

Like what? Honestly, I don't remember seeing much in the way of sexism here, guess I must have missed it.

OK so give some examples. If it was so prevalent, there must be plenty. Like calling SHS fat or something? That's all I can think of.

Are you talking about the trans thread?

I remember a poster once trying to argue that lesbians were smarter than heterosexual women because they have more testosterone or something but WN shut that down quickly.

(I just think it's because they're more open minded). I'm sure outside of Politics it's been pretty rampant. No reason to doubt Bryce or Cross there.

Lol. Sounds like something Kel and Luciom's love child would argue.

Everything will be fine. The only thing that will change is that less people get banned.

Fewer people

You deserve a temp ban for that error

I'm sure there must be some circumstances where I say "fewer" but I can't think of any. If I'm wrong there then I obviously don't want to be right.

The list is endless. some things that pop into my head without relitigating the past, mostly because of relative recency

- Luciom excusing rape and literal no one caring.
-El razor saying the purpose of sex is procreation and nothing else
-The original response to the new owners taking over the forum was to ask them repeatedly and from multiple posters why they married “ hookers”
-the entire robbi debate
- people asking me for nudes of posters
-samantha abernathy being described as a gold digger, most other women as well

etc etc

Like I said don’t want to relitigate the past it’s endless tho.

You should at least have your examples be actual examples. 3 & 5 ok but the rest....no sorry.

While a silly opinion, I don't see anything offensive about this.

Lol what? Accusing a woman of cheating at poker or suggesting a woman married for money is misogyny? Give me a break, bro.

Also, I was talking about this subforum, so let's not bring every single NVG thread into this, it's irrelevant.

all you guys do is complain.

edit: and by "you guys" i mean liberals, not women. women are the glue that hold the world together.

well, if number one happened there is no excuse for that. rape is the one action anyone can take and never have an excuse.

how is el razor saying sex is for procreating sexist? ultimately, it is. sure, we all enjoy the feeling of another laying on top of us while our skin rubs against each other, the feeling of running our hands through each others hair. the moans, the groans, the release of seminal fluid all over an exposed back. the post coital e-cigarette. all that is great, but sex is about procreating, we just hacked the system.

marrying a hooker seems like the most unsexist thing a man could do.

people asking for nudes of posters....well this is a little over the line, but if you have any of victor, lmk.

this abernathy lady is quite stunning, but the idea that a woman would use her looks to get ahead in the poker world repulses me.
