In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

Despite there being much less protesting and violence, both countries seem much more prone to respond with draconian authoritarian measures, at least to combat "right wing" movements.
I think it's simpler than that and that they just want to keep people divided. Perhaps at one point in time a little pre-Trump they had dreams of fomenting civil war but I doubt they see that as realistic.
Fair enough. At the minimum certainly not until they can take away all the guns. No point in formenting a civil war you are likely to lose.

they simply don't have the first amendment, but they did the same when the right was culturally dominant and the enemy was leftwing (think what the UK did to the suffragettes)
I have heard it argued that there is a conspiratorial effort by elites to create racial discord as a pre-condition to justify authoritarian takeover to ostensibly mitigate the discord. Are you of the opinion something like this may be going on, where we can see countries like Canada and UK that are further along in this stratagem.
Where did you hear this argued? Let me guess "Many people, the best people, have said"...

Not really, no. I imagine that the people who support that sort of thing don't want to emigrate to the godless West.
ETA: I'd certainly be granting asylum to any women seeking to flee that regime.
Turkey's main opposition party has claimed big election victories in the main cities of Istanbul and Ankara.
The results are a significant blow for Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who had hoped to regain control of the cities less than a year after he claimed a third term as president.
He led the campaign to win in Istanbul, where he grew up and became mayor.
But Ekrem Imamoglu, who first won the city in 2019, scored a second victory for the secular opposition CHP.

Well I suppose if you view everyone around you who looks (or thinks) differently to you as enemies hellbent on destroying you, then your view makes sense. What a horrible way to live your life though.

Not everyone, just people coming from countries that are completely out of whack culturally with ours and where most people have horrific moral preferences

Seems like the vast majority of them assimilate pretty easily and certainly by the second generation are very much culturally in tune with their host country. Sure, there are outliers, but I imagine the vast majority don't fit your description. The ones who want to love under Sharia law don't want to live in the West anyway.
Sure, there are some terrorists who get through under false pretenses as you describe. Is it your view that as long as Islamic terrorism exists that nobody from certain Muslim majority countries should be allowed to emigrate to Europe or North America?

this is why the culture war woke agenda is bullshit. its meant to obscure. its meant to create and cultivate reactionary ideas. and its only end goal and result is that we now get to fight over if we should have trans generals and lesbian spokespeople in the white house and trans people doing war crimes. if we get those things, then the good guys win. Biden has those now! and if you vote for Trump then we wont have equality in who murders poor foreigners. it will only be white men.
