Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I have one child who graduated from one of the most famously lefty Universities in the US last year and another still in college and neither report any antisemitism from the left, both are very against the bombing of Gaza and one has been to several protests.

If I thought my children were in danger from the left it would concern me. The only negative attention either of them have gotten for being Jewish is one of them was harassed by skinhe

Yes they are against the bombing of gaza but I'm sure haven't gone to one protest about releasing the hostages right? You must be proud of their leftist values pop

I'm glad your child feels safe. That means all of the stories of antisemitism on college campuses must have been made up by those dirty jews i guess. Victor is right to hang out with him

The Jewish vote used to be a slam dunk Dem vote but hasn't that been shifting for 20 years now since the evangelicals figured out they have common ground in supporting Israel where the left has always had a soft spot for the Palestinians? Karl Rove can probably take some credit for that. Also Trump moving the embassy to Jerusalem must have bought some brownie points where the Dems would have never considered such a thing.

The Orthodox vote R but that's a tiny portion of Jewish America. Tiny

American Jews are a tiny, tiny minority that mostly live in non-swing states, plus a large chunk of them are progressive; it makes zero political sense to care about this voting bloc. The GOP's pro-Israel stance is 100% driven by Christian Evangelicals to target Christian Evangelical voters.

If you're Biden you're much more worried about Gen-Z voters and Muslims living in swing Midwest states.

This is 100% true and you see biden shifting. Well most people do, people like microbet will say he isn't turning in Israel by not vetoing resolutions at the un

by Trolly McTrollson P

First Pew study I found has Jews and Muslims both making up about 1% of the population, it's a small voting bloc any way you want to look at it.

Jews are 2.4% of us population and vote in higher numbers than most demographics

But still very small and i agree that population is mostly in big blue states where their vote means less

Dear President Biden,

On October 7, Hamas acted on its expressed genocidal drive to brutally murder, rape, and kidnap Jewish men, women, and children.

You immediately recognized Hamas’ evil and strongly supported Israel’s fulfillment of its moral obligation to destroy Hamas, secure Gaza, and free the hostages.

April 3, 2024, marks 180 days since that black day.

· 180 days of the unimaginable torture of those held hostage in Gaza.

· 180 days of shockingly increasing antisemitism on the streets and campuses of this country.

· 180 days of Israel fighting an enemy that has cynically and viciously embedded itself within the civilian population.

President Biden, I am writing to ask for your strong support for Israel to enable her to achieve her goal of effectively eradicating Hamas.

· Israel and its army are the good fighting the unspeakably evil, making unprecedented efforts to minimize civilian casualties and maximize humanitarian assistance while doing what they must to eliminate the mortal threat to their citizens. We need you to continue to stand with them.

· We need you to push back against the narrative that is feeding the antisemitism harming American Jews every day, absurdly turning the accusation of genocide against those defending themselves from it.

· And we need you – who have been so dedicated to the release of the precious hostages – to increase the pressure to achieve their unconditional and immediate release.

Thank you for your commitment to Israel. Please continue to stand strong with Israel – it’s the right thing to do today and it will long be remembered.

The letter that the Orthodox Union is trying to get 180,000 people to sign and send to our president

Microbet do you think your daughter would sign it, or is she only worried about Gazans?

a cease-fire will bring back the POWs. so yes, they actually did go to those.

the psychopathic demonstrations in support of continued genocide were decidedly not in service of releasing the hostage.

Hamas will not release the hostages vic. That's why there is no ceasefire

there is a standing offer to release them. Hamas's demands are clear.

-full cease fire
-withdrawal from Gaza
-allow freedom of movement back to homes
-allow aid
-full swap of all detainees

Israel wants to continue running a concentration camp so they would rather the hostages die than give human rights to the Palestinians.

Hamas can't stay in power

That's like saying the allies should have accepted a ceasefire with the nazis stayi3 in power

It's not like that at all but whatever.

Because the allies actually DID do that. Look at who ran West Germany after the war.

by Bluegrassplayer P

The problem is this is 6 months in, and it's been happening the entire time. They're either maliciously killing the aid workers or incompetent. Either way food isn't going to enter under these circumstances. Admitting to something doesn't really do much.

by formula72 P

With military tech now im going with them knowing it was an aid truck. Theres absolutely a revenge element to a degree here in this war. Both sides hate each to a level that i couldnt understand.

Almost 20% of IDF causalities have been friendly fire. We're really talking about a significant percent of the total.

Are you suggesting the IDF is killing their own maliciously and for revenge?

Or is urban warfare a heck of a lot more complicated than you think?

Microbet

The 96% of jews applying to college that are worried about antisemitism are whackjobs right

They aren't made up, but tearing down posters isn't anything like people shooting you. Republicans will shoot you.

Mets, it's really sad how you downplay the threat when someone went into a temple and started blowing Jews away just a few hundred miles from where you live. Have some respect.
You must be proud of their leftist values pop
Lol, if someone spoke to me IRL about my child this way, I’d punch them in the face. You shouldn’t be around kids imo.

And I'd be very shocked and troubled if my children wanted to see this guy:

by metsandfinsfan P

Microbet do you think your daughter would sign it, or is she only worried about Gazans?

Micro was giving anecdotal evidence that was personal to him and relevant to the conversation. You are just insulting posters’ children and you should stop because it’s a terrible look and also makes you a terrible person. Stfu about people’s kids.

Your behavior is disgusting, Mets.

The president of Hillel telling us that other colleges aren't safe seems like an opportunity for us to engage in some media literacy.

It's a huge threat and awful. Beyond awful

Don't see how that has to do with voting Democrat or Republican was my point

Israel policy absolutely does

Allowing hate speech on campuses obviously does

Why are people tearing down hostage posters in your opinion

I donated to the Pittsburgh synagogue and their families after the massacre

Nobody thinks it wasn't awful (well not nobody, but i HOPE nobody in this thread)

It has to do with the Republican party because the guy at the top of the Republican party is a huge inspiration to these brown shirt torch carriers who think Jews are out to replace them.

I'm not a big hate speech guy because I love freedom and freedom of speech is incredibly important and I don't talk out of both sides of my mouth on that either. Should I look up your history of posts about "hate speech" to see if you only like freedom of speech when it's speech that you want to support?

You haven't answered

Has your daughter gone to any protest demanding the release of hostages?

Do you think Israel should leave gaza without the hostages being returned?

by metsandfinsfan P

Why are people tearing down hostage posters in your opinion

Mostly to protest Israel's bombing of Gaza. I imagine they think that people are using the hostages to silence criticism of Israel or something. It doesn't have to make sense. The relatively small number of people who have done it (have 1000 people torn down a poster? I doubt it) don't have to have had clear reasoning about it.
