ex-President Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:

a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?

b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?

From a right wing perspective he certainly does.

Well, it seems that on this occasion, reality has a right wing perspective.

by chezlaw P

Thats okay. I think we should change the rules of the game a bit.

barely even that.

what do you have in mind, give some examples.

because it's not like among the various western countries they haven't tried everything already imo, within get range of "capitalism", very broadly defined

Although it's nothing to do with daily sequesters violent or otherwise and the free market is not the only game in town.

that's what required for equality. otherwise getting far ahead happens REALLY FAST.

like really really fast.

alternative to free market is mandated production and consumption, and every time you try that's the people who are given the power to decide what everyone can consume and produce invariably abuse those positions to the practical limit with insane violence

there are people than in a month can program better than whole teams of tens of people can in a decade.

if they're is ANY gain to be able to do that's those people will be far ahead of the rest of society in any model.

only way to keep them at the same level as others is giving them 0 rewards for their exceptional skills.

same for entertainers, inventors and so on

Can confirm. I am one of those people.

Okay. I'm not a written constitution fan but putting it in those terms. I'd focus ownership of data by it's subjects as one of the commandments.

The ridiculous wealth of home owners should be tackled by increasing quality supply (particularly of council housing) . Planning rather than free market.

We should make a lot more use of our universities, the NHS and other (new and existing) non private entities to develop and provide new technology.

...
I think there are endless ways to address this and the details should be the stuff of left wing politics.

Sure. Many of them would be delighted to stay within non private entities if that was a viable option. So many join the private sector because it's almost impossible not to these days.

Central planning has gotten a very bad rap, especially the gulag.

Neal Katyal 'strongly suspects' Trump will be convicted in hush money case.

Trump thinks he is Jesus and Nelson Mandela, but he quotes Hitler. And his base doesn't see it? Amazing!

Can we please stop calling this the hush money case and start calling it the 2016 Election Interference Case?

You are describing germany/austria model basically, where college is *free* and there is a **** ton of public housing and ultra-stronge tenants right and... people complain the same about capitalism and there are ultra-leftists parties who want to dismantle everything and the right wins votes because of immigration and so on.

Basically what you ask for already exists there, and doesn't solve any of the problems you think would be solved.

Germany has some good aspects which we should look to but its sill not close to where we need to be.

Its also a notch richer per capital so even the very crass brush you paint with is hardly a refutation.

I still prefer your response to the more usual one of 'unpossible'

Ofc germany growth rates are heavily handicapped by the policies you like, and even if for a while they were able to grow with an export model of growth (like a developing country), reality caught up with it and they are in a really bad shape going forward from here.

Even italy is growing more than germany lately lol.

But the main point isn't that you can't change things even significantly, it's that you end up with the same problems you tried to tackle, and you don't even have good economic growth.

I don't agree but apart from some good aspects I don't see germany as some model to aspire to.

If your argument is that even the deomcatic socialist republic of germany has issues so give up and embrace the right then I think I spot a fallacy or two

This season of USA really is the worst so far in terms of entertainment and buzz.

Nothing worth tuning in for, and nothing interesting on the horizon.

Wake me up in 2028.

Anyone following the Trump Media stock fiasco?

Seems the accounting firm they hired has a 100% deficiency rate.
Trump is suing the cofounders because, well, that's what Trump does. He's asking for their shares.
The cofounders are trying to bypass the standard 6 months waiting period to sell their shares before they tank even further.
The stock is sitting around $34 after hitting a high on opening day of about $80 - only about 2 weeks ago.

As with everything else, anything he touches turns to ****.

As with everything else, anything he touches turns to ****.

Valuing a shrinking $4 million business at $9 billion is the
greatest feat of chutzpah ever seen in the U.S. stock market.

Truth Social, is highly unlikely to ever make money.
Not only were its annual sales paltry — only slightly above that of a
typical McDonald’s franchise — but those sales dwindled as the year progressed.

If investors valued Trump Media’s IPO like they did the initial public offerings of
Tesla, Google and Facebook, then Trump Media stock would be selling at 50 cents per share.

And even that would be generous because Truth Social is not a
groundbreaking product and does not operate in a new industry.

Trump Media is not really a stock in the traditional sense. It’s a form of club membership.

This is really not much different than what he did with his casinos in Atlantic City. They weren't making money. He hadn't paid the contractors. And he declared bankruptcy. Then he created a stock on the NYSE called DJT.

This Forbes article should explain the r...

He and his family ended up making money while all of his debt got absorbed by the public company. Then it went bankrupt after Donald and Ivanka stepped down from the board.

Investing? Nah. These guys buy lifted trucks they can't afford the payments for that get 2 miles per gallon, donate half their paycheck to trump, then complain that they can't afford milk at the grocery store.
