The whole idea of the jury system is an additional veto to prosecutorial abuses.
There are cases in the centuries of juries just don't giving a **** and saying "no way that's guilty" for actions that they simply felt were reasonable, no matter what the bastards with their asses in parliament decided or the "interpretation" of judges is.
Anything that sets cross veto mechanisms in the application of power is a positive in my book.
The mistakes stemming from abuses of power are always infinitely worse than lack of enforcement (which isn't optimal, but is not terrible).
All the above said , that was predicated on a jury of peers. Which originally actually meant people of your social class. People like you, who could understand what's reasonable , or not, to do in your shoes.
That very simply has no meaning for Trump (or Biden son, or a billionaire and so on).
The jury system is a very good idea in a justice system.
Jury selection is a really bad idea in a justice system. Yes I'll take SRMs point that it's not the worst idea in the usa justice system.
