Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Just to confirm…the people in this pic are Zionists, according to genocide vic.

I actually dont see whats wrong with that sign

Dunyan,

I'm sure you've seen this, but do you really think your 1400 year ago stuff is relevant considering how for 1300 of those years Christians were so much more hostile to Jews than Muslims were?

Yes. Of course history is relevant. And you obviously think so too, which is why you are so sensitive towards "Christian" antisemitism. Being slightly less horrible than the Crusaders or Nazis doesn't mean historical Muslim bigotry isn't a giant part of the problem.

There was A LOT of pogroms, massacres and genocides in that 1400 years; culminating in most of the Jews being genocided from the whole Middle East during the 20th century minus Israel. And judging by their sign, if the people in the picture I posted get their wish, than "From the River to the Sea... By any means necessary" will be the culmination of the genocidal project.

I just haven't seen any evidence of classic antisemitism in the campus ceasefire movement. What I see is some Jews feeling unsafe because they are conflating opposition to Zionism with antisemitism. That's on them.

What does "classic" even mean? Why does it even matter if the antisemitism is "classic" or not?

With all due respect, the prevalent form of opposition to "Zionism", regardless of how you fantasize about boundaries and qualifiers, are indistinguishable from antisemitism.

I am against certain forms of "Zionism" as you'd LIKE to understand it; I oppose the expansion of illegal settlements and strongly believe Israel should help the PA remove illegal settlers. But you're absolutely delusional if you think most Hamas supporters are not either: 1. denying Israeli right to defend itself or 2. straight up supporting Hamas' "right" to commit horrendous acts against Jews.

You can hedge all you want. But that's what support for Hamas, in any way shape or form, means.

Apart from it being flavorless appropriation and a death wish, not a damn thing wrong.

whelp, rafiki and BGP wrong again. who could have guessed?

nttawwt, I call bullshit

this is a major rule of empire

The term empire really packs the sugar

Before the conflict between Jews and Muslims in Israel definitely starting in 1948 and before, but slowly building before that I don't think Islam has been especially antisemitic, just tribal like everyone else, including Jews. And there's plenty of stuff in the Torah against anyone who isn't Jewish.

There's more to it with Christians and Jews. Jews are especially hated as the Christ killers and probably just as people who refused to believe Jesus was the Jewish Messiah. All that baking matzoh with the blood of babies - the blood libel stuff, that's Christian. And the Inquisition. It's just not close. Christianity was sooooooooo much more horrible to Jews than Islam was before Israel was a state and before the wars. And there's still plenty of that blood libel sentiment crawling around in the white Christian world.

And likewise there's a lot of hate from Jews directed towards Arabs and Muslims right now. But that's not really a historical thing. Sure, there are quotes from the Torah about non-Jews, but the animosity now is because of war.

People are aholes, horrible to one another. No nuance

Love thy neighbor as thyself is inconceivable.

A lot and probably a majority of the white people at these college protests are Jewish. The anti-Zionism is of course distinguishable from antisemitism. Jews did not have seders with the KKK.

Zionism being so widely used is a laugh. Like the average dunce appreciates a difference. What other nation has an alternate term by which they're 'known,' or anything approaching the zionist pejorative errr euphemism?

by Victor P

I actually dont see whats wrong with that sign

You said those people are Zionists. That is all.

by Bill Haywood P

Wildly overblown, as evidenced by all the seders being held at the encampments.

This argument is beyond stupid.

Jews started the term and not all people who identify as Zionists are against things like one state with full citizenship for Palestinians, including the right of return. Most people who call themselves anti-Zionists don't understand that.

by gs3737 P

ya I was talking about the more heinous signs. like the "rape is resistance" stickers. those were proven done by Zionists.

also this was a false flag

Dunyain quoted the “by any means necessary” sign.

You said those are being held by zionists.

So, no you weren’t.

I agree. and I dont think there is anything really wrong with those signs. could be close to borderline in some context. but not this one.

Were Rushdie and the Bishop false flags?

It's like a video game on the easiest mode, destroying vics argument.

The university fad isn't the most radical iteration of Islam. Congrats

did they have anything to do with Palestine?

oh didnt realize it was Islamic. maybe you should tell all the Jews Christians and atheists at these things.

looks like NYPD is rounding up Jews.

I'm interested in other people's, at least prior, understanding of this.

If someone believes that Palestinians should be equal citizens in one unified country and that those displaced in prior wars should have the right of return, did you think it was possible for that person to consider themselves a Zionist? That there has been and are a significant number of such people?

by Victor P

I actually dont see whats wrong with that sign

I bet more people are gonna die in Gaza because of this sign and because of these pro Hamas rallies. More people are realizing who the real instigators are. These protests and especially the block the roads protests are just pissing people off and making them root for more obliteration of Gaza. Israel and it's supporters are just digging in even deeper. They see what they are up against.

by Victor P

All of these anti Israel people should be rounded up.

The idea of "right of return" is nonsense. It can't and shouldn't happen. Things went bad a long time ago just like it has for many people throughout the world. It's a survival of the fittest world. Some times you have to admit defeat and move on.
