Neutralize as much as possible the threat of being attacked from the south. It seems Israel thinks flushing Hamas out of Rafah and destroying as many tunnels there as possible should go a long way in accomplishing this goal.

Then once the southern border is secure, to begin the much more difficult project of driving Hezbollah off the northern border.

you arent gonna bomb and snipe the hostages and pows back. they tried that and probably killed 70 or so. however, how many came back when the fighting stopped?

its pretty clear that the Israeli gov is sacrificing the hostages so they can do more murder.

Yeah, even bad faith actors like Hamas dont even pretend that a ceasefire would lead towards getting the hostages back. At best doing exactly what Hamas demands probably gets them some body parts back a few years down the line.

Hamas is getting exactly what they want, though. A terrorized population whose only hope is strongmen like Hamas. Recruitment's gonna go way up. Thanks, Israel!

Meh. IF the current Israeli administration gets their way Hamas is going to be so weakened no one will want anything to do with them. Not to say someone else just as bad wont fill the vacuum, but very reasonable it wont be Hamas. Even brainwashed, nihilistic Jihadis whose whole existence is organized around the pursuit of martyrdom can recognize and stay away from a completely hopeless loser.

Also, IF Israel can majorly disrupt the terror pipeline, maintain the corridor dividing Gaza, and maintain the buffer zone surrounding Gaza; the goal is the Palestinians will be too weak and ineffectual to do anything major, regardless of what bad guy ends up in charge.

I am not saying I know this is what is going to happen. I am saying I think it is the current plan, and it isn't as outrageous as the "killing terrorists just breeds new terrorists" crowd would like you to believe.

They admit the principal "eye witness" wasn't even there, and admitted she just made it u to help the cause.

Ironically, according to the JPost article they decided to admit it was fake because Hamas is trying to get people to go back to the North and the fake rape story was making this harder; so it was causing more problems than it was helping the cause.

That short-lived first ceasefire is a nice template, but for the 2 islamist savages that shot people at a bus stop in Jerusalem.

Well, the current goal is to provide security at the southern border. The means are going to be what the current administration deems necessary to meet this goal.

Also, unlike all of its theocratic dictatorship enemies, Israel is a democracy so goals can and will change as administrations change.
