In other news

In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

Over half their revenue comes from the US. Not sure the for profit healthcare setup the is a shining light for the free market.

there are cases of drug prices being out of whack of market mechanisms but that's usually about patent ever-greening or other anticompetitive behaviors (like being allowed to pay a competitor to not bring a product to market), or legal mandates to prescribe a drug that is only very slightly better but costs 10 or 20 times more.

A drug that fixes obesity is not such a case, given the monstrous health care cost savings that provides for the system itself.

I had hoped this would be the case, but am very doubtful after hearing Jillian Michaels talk about ozempic this week. Not sure how reliable a source she is, but she mentioned several very bad side effects and that it basically stops working after a year and a half or so.

The prices of prescription medicine are pretty removed from the mechanics of supply and demand.

Is the system screwed up? It sure is. But that doesn't mean that demand doesn't drive the price for the given supply. If people didn't want/need the drug then it wouldn't cost so much.

The Florida man to be proud of! Spitting facts all day.

There are few heroes in Congress. Mr. Moskowitz is one of them.

Moskowitz destroys the GOP for their ridiculous Biden impeachment inquiry,
triggers MAGA Republicans for Donald Trump's dinner with Nick Fuentes,
blasts the GOP for trying to threaten women's reproductive rights and so much more.

BREAKING: 11 Arizona Trump fake electors indicted on state charges including former GOP state chair.

"Just sign them and I'll take care of the rest." -Trump

The GOP has dug itself into such a deep hole over the last 7-8 years
and they just keep digging. My former party is unsavable at this point.

Homeland Security raid P Diddy's home. Details of investigation aren't specified but online suspicion abounds of sex trafficking.

No appetite for music industry horror stories here I guess.
There was a noticeable collapse of truth in the rap game just after Tupac got killed. Jay Z and Puffy systematically tore through the rap game, absorbing all the lyrics and beat production for their own monopoly. The rabbit hole online today is enormous, but some things are starting to line up and add up. Tupac's murder trial has been predicted to be the lynch-pin that will crack this story wide open. Jay Z and Puffy have been using the tactics of sexual humiliation and murder for 30 years now, and have quite literally f****d over every artist under their sway for more than a generation.

If half of what Jaquar Wright says is true the storm is coming for some people. Lot's of suggestions and accusations and conjecture, but some of this stuff is VERY disturbing:

Part 2 Real Lyfe Street Stars interview ...

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction in New York has been overturned, on the basis that he did not receive a fair trial.

The New York Court of Appeals said prosecutors in the pivotal #MeToo case called witnesses whose accusations were not part of the charges against him.

The court said that meant he was unfairly tried for past behaviour, and ordered a new trial.

Weinstein, 72, remains in prison. He was separately convicted of rape in LA.

The Silence Breakers, a victims' group, called the reversal "disheartening and profoundly unjust", while lawyers for victims said the decision to retry was a "leap backwards" and "tragic".

The court reached a 4-3 ruling on Thursday, stating that the trial "erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes."

The decision also said the trial judge compounded the error by letting Weinstein be cross-examined in a way that portrayed him in a "highly prejudicial" light.

"The remedy for these egregious errors is a new trial."

Judge Madeline Singas, one of the dissenters, however said that with the decision, "this Court continues to thwart the steady gains survivors of sexual violence have fought for in our criminal justice system".

Yawn... Don't know how any of this is surprising enough to be disturbing. 95% (generously) of famous hip hop / rap "artists" are misogynistic criminals. They actually state as much in their "lyrics". Anyone who ever thought otherwise had their head in the sand.

Wow, so he thinks that a private company should be forced to pay for political speech?

It's a claim of antitrust violation, you should address that.

They aren't claiming coca cola can't choose where to advertise, but that doing so togheter with many other companies with collusive intents might be a violation of the Sherman act.

Maybe that's false? but it's you guys who love antitrust laws so, it's a lawyer thing, that you guys created.

Eh he still has a better than average chance of dying in prison

Coca-Cola isn't a private company?
As in 'private enterprise, not owned by the government'.

Regardless of what you call Coca-Cola, do you think the government should tell them how to spend their money?

I don't feel strongly one way or the other about antitrust laws, but I don't see how this would be relevant to them. You're welcome to address the claim if you'd like to do so.
