4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Instead of writing racist laws into their legislation if only the South African governments had thought of bombing the hell out of their black citizens in pursuit of terrorists, then telling them to leave their homes and congregate in a smaller area where they could be threatened with being exterminated. Because then that wouldn't have been apartheid.

Not sure what this has to do with Israel most assuredly not being an Apartheid state.

So, we seem to have some trouble with point #1, which is to be expected in a discussion of such a hot topic. Again, you guys have a lot of freedom here. We just have to learn to use it correctly. You're totally free to say something that some *has said* is stupid or racist, but we're not going to use those labels on *each other* because it corrodes the debates and our trust in one another as a community.
Today was a bit of a rough one. We had a lot of over the edge posts and many more that were right up against the line. This has resulted in the thread being closed to everyone for the rest of the day, and this is probably a consequence I'll continue to use when the temperature starts to rise too high.
What's going to happen now is corpus vile, microbet, and metsandfinsfan are all going to be taking a day off from this thread for low content posts about one another and personal attacks. Do not make posts solely designed to denigrate one another. You three may rejoin us in 24 hours. Please do not disregard this timeout, besties. If you have questions or complaints, PM me. I'm happy to go over everything with you guys.

Nobody talking about what Gallant just did? The Israeli government is literally on the brink of collapse from this epic move.
For those who don't follow too close, Gallant is one of the more popular guys in Israel today (maybe less so today than 6 months ago). He was the one that basically nuked the judicial reform. Bibi tried to fire him and then the country got so upset he couldn't. He's basically in a political job but with no political aspirations, just trying to save the country. So his motivations are about as pure as it gets, and in that sense he's a huge liability to Bibi. He's one of the most respected men in the country.
Anyway he just came out and said Bibi's course is doomed. Either Hamas wins or Israel has to occupy Gaza via a lengthy military operation (and Bibi wasn't exactly hiding that it was #2 he was gunning for).
So Gallant just warned the whole country, going around Bibi's back. They're in the same party for context.
So basically all eyes on Benny Gantz now. What is supposed to happen if the world makes any sense, is he steps up and slides right into this position Gallant has explained. The government falls apart. And elections occur before the matter of what to do with Gaza comes up.
I think almost all of us itt are aligned on it not being Bibi who oversees it. No military occupation (at least for any appreciable duration). This should be the start of a move to just right of centre kind of thing. More left than Bibi anyway. If Bibi somehow manages to hold on in all this, I fear for 260 more pages of chaos in here.

With a different Israeli government, the UN could be called to manage gaza post-war, why not? it happened in Lebanon
PFLP already said if that anyone using the pier will be considered occupiers and will be attacked. so good luck with that. that is, ofc, if the Israels dont kill the UN workers first.

Palestinian society in its current iteration is too uncooperative and violent. Not everyone of course, or even the majority, but enough to make it untenable. No one wants to send peacekeepers to be killed by the people they are trying to help.
I assume the fact Israel found 3 hostage bodies in the Rafah tunnels, (on top of all the smuggling tunnels to Egypt) means they have the cover to go through Rafah as much as they deem necessary to accomplish whatever their objectives are.

I think everyone agrees the correct outcome is Fatah takes over and other international actors (preferably Arab) get involved in the governance and security of Gaza.
The problem for Israel is not a single international actor, except maybe Iran, wants to get involved with governing Gaza.
Israel needs to convince Gazans 1. There is no future in war. 2. There is a future in peace.
1. May require repeated battles and wars with lots of propaganda to turn the Palestinians against the crazies.
2. Requires Israel to stop imitating Hamas. (Step 1: get Bibi and his cronies out. Step 2: start drafting the hard right Haredims that refuse to fight the wars they contribute greatly to perpetuating. )
