Ukraine-Russia War Take 2
Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:
The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.
When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.
It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.
But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.
If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.

As to what you are now mentioning: weird thing to get up in arms about, I doubt anyone would protest a Palestinian flag.
I think it would be kinda weird to see a Palestinian flag but yes much less weird than a Ukraine flag.

I assume there would be an issue with a large Palestinian flag. I believe I saw one person with one but I couldn’t tell for sure.

The west has been the most beneficial thing to ever happen to humanity after the discovery of agriculture by a huge margin, basically everything that makes our lives decent have been developed by the west. Even when based on non -western ideas at some points in time, we were the only ones to execute properly on them.
Even accounting for anything bad you might want to attribute to the west the net is so big, so incredible, it's hard to understand why anyone wouldn't worship the west as the best thing to ever happen and to still exist basically.
Even life in Gaza would be much much much much worse than it is, had the west never existed. Antibiotics alone make up for everything else, then there is electricity and so much more.
It's simply incredible not to be pro west Uber Alles no ifs and no buts. Which makes it hard, if not impossible, to talk with people who disagree.
It's like talking with someone who wants to turn off the sun because he knows people who got skin cancer from sun exposure

I think the belligerent attitude is part and parcel of what made us develop technology faster and better yes than anyone else before in human history by a large margin, you don't get nuclear energy without nuclear bombs (just to give an example, but it's the same for almost everything).
And technology is the only reason we don't live like animals.
And I think the destruction caused by the west has been infinitesimal compared to the creation, as stated.
The world couldn't sustain more than a billion people without western technology for example, so (at least) 7/8 of humans currently alive exist only thanks to the west, that's the scale of our contribution.
And it's obvious to everyone which is why a lot of people want to come and live with us and not viceversa

Im not pro Russia. people say that a lot bc they cant really attack my facts and arguments. I mean, last time I ballparked blame for this whole thing I put it at 50/50. that seems pretty anti-Russia to me! I mean, they are just as bad as the West!

It has nothing to do with Nazis. The reason Russian propaganda tries to label it as a Nazi icon is because Russia seeks to identify anyone who resists Russian imperialism as Nazis.
If one country invades another country purely for imperliast ambitions and begins to commit genocide after declaring they will commit genocide and someone assigns a 50/50 blame then they are clearly pro the imperialist and genocidal nation.
