Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
"just following orders"

By Bibi's twisted logic, everyone on a kibbutz is a human shield (and therefore fair game to kill).

by PointlessWords P

Geneva convention says Israel is only allowed to respond proportionately.

What does the Geneva Convention say about taking hostages? Particularly non-combatants who were at a dance party.

by YellowBentines P

Im not sure this is true or that many people will agree. The line was crossed when they stole the land in the first place and economic targets are just as legitimate as military targets in a situation like this.

So, do you believe any native American tribe should have carte blanche to bomb any office building in the US?

by PointlessWords P

I dunno about that. To me civilian means non military.

A civilian stops being a civilian when they conspire with terrorists to rape and murder a bunch of people they consider their enemy.

Where am I disconnected?

Terrorists are civilians so you might wanna start there

No, you look like someone with double standards.

I already looked it up and read that all hostage taking is considered a war crime by the conventions. So forget those arguments that Hamas (the government of Gaza) did not commit any war crimes. They committed a war crime, so they get war crimes in return. Where are the arrest warrants for all the Hamas leadership?

I never said they didn’t commit war crimes lmao. I said I don’t know.

And of course Israel has 20-50x as many hostages. So that means Israel has done 20-50c as many war crimes, is that correct?

Umm war crimes don’t mean you get to do war crimes but I’m glad you’re able to freely admit that’s what’s going on.

So how would you distinguish a fair game enemy combatant from an off-limits civilian?

right next to the ones for the israeli leadership...

The ICC issued one the other day. It doesn't matter, of course, because you're making yet another classic Whatabout deflection.

Narrator: they did not

is he holding a weapon or attacking you? waste him

if not, cant attack. Thats basic Geneva convention rules of engagement

Does Sinwar not count? I maybe don't get the question.

The International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity over the October 7 attacks on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza, the court’s prosecutor Karim Khan told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an exclusive interview on Monday.

ethnic cleansing at minimum, but considering the carpet-bombing of a kettled civilian population, probably genocide yeah. many experts have said so

they are seeking arrest warrants, they havent been granted yet

That contradicts what you’ve said in the past about the victims of Oct 7.

I fully admit that what the Geneva convention considers to be war crimes have almost certainly been committed, by both sides, in every war that has ever occurred. That's why the whole thing is laughable and it's ridiculous to even use the phrase "war crime".

Alright, let's see the Hamas leadership arrested, and then I'll support the same thing for the Israeli leadership.

I didn't hear about any being issued right after 10/7. But the ICC is a ridiculous organization, as the whatabouts could be fairly applied to every war in history.

Do you think the Palestinians are not attempting to commit genocide on Israelis? And likely every Jew?

Israel could kill every Palestinian if they wanted to, but they don't do it.

Palestine would love to kill every Israeli, but they can't do it.

These are the undeniable truths of the situation. If you disagree with any of the premises, I would love to read your explanation.

i think this probably bad-faith nonsense is addressed here:

Interestingly enough, the US has an act on the record that authorizes the US to use any means necessary (including military force) to retrieve any US citizens or "allied personnel" that are taken into custody by the ICC.

I am not sure whether Netanyahu fits into the "allied personnel" category, or if a US president would even try to pull this card (I am guessing Trump would before Biden), but I am guessing no one in the ICC or Netherlands is going to be in a big hurry to find out.

No, I don't care to watch a video whose title is ridiculous.

Hamas has genocide in its charter, and they are supported by the vast majority of Gazans. If you seriously don't think most Gazans would support the genocide of Israelis, you're delusional. And it's a simple fact that Israel could kill every Gazan, quickly, if they wanted to.
