Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I might be wrong. I take back my claim

But clearly anyone who is apart of volunteer forces becomes a combatant. I think this prob makes more Israelis combatants than people will be comfortable with

Civilians with guns are not the same as people in the military. They are also not the same as civilians without guns, because by picking up the guns they have become combatants.

FWIW I don't think that "soldier" is even a term widely used in the Geneva Conventions, the main distinguishing factor is combatants and civilians.

Soldier = armed forces

Armed forces = not civilian

Civilians with guns aren’t armed forces unless they are organized and commanded as listed above

There are plenty of fighters in Hamas that that is their job. They train and do soldier things for a living. Hamas either puts them up or pays them. These are not just reservists that train one weekend a month or something.

Are you seriously responding with the Mizrahim are 'Arab Jews'?

I don't get it. Are you saying there are not Arab Jews?

by PointlessWords P

Palestine isn’t a nation and doesn’t have an army. Insurgents are civilians. Hamas are insurgents/ terrorists. They are not soldiers. Hate to inform you

They are an independent government with an army

They have not been occupied since 2005

by jalfrezi P

Are you seriously responding with the Mizrahim are 'Arab Jews'?

You have no idea that MUSLIM ARABS voluntarily serve in the idf

You argue here but really have no knowledge about Israel, Gaza, or the middle east in general

by PointlessWords P

I could be wrong but I’m almost positive civilians with guns are not the same as people on the military

A civilian is someone that is not actively in the military. That’s it.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been professionally trained on the difference

You're very wrong

by 5 south P

I don't get it. Are you saying there are not Arab Jews?

He and others believe Israel vs Gaza is white vs black. When you point out that only 30% of Israel is white and most are arab just like the Palestinians, the argument falls apart

https://www.firstpost.com/explainers/mee...

The number of muslims joining the idf has steadily increased the past few years

As I've stated, muslim citizens of Israel generally love Israel

The thought that rockets are being shot from rafah this week, but you (pw) believe Israel cannot respond because gaza has "no military" is so preposterous that I'm going to assume you are joking

Well that is bad, and I read it too fast to notice that. Apologies.

Documents show that for at least the past 10 years Egypt has tried to destroy tunnels

I kind of like the canal idea tbh

by Bluegrassplayer P

I know you're already taking that with a grain of salt, but just look at how meaningless that is.

If Israel controls most of the tunnels (estimates are they have found 1/3 at the moment) then there's probably very few Hamas leaders left living.

Under this situation Israel MIGHT let those leaders go into exile.

What that really means is that if Israel can gain control of most of the tunnels then Israel can do whatever they want. Not really any

Just wanted to chime in on this area that Dunyain brought up and you're replying to.

There's no "might" here. There's a standing offer, and one so public that Bibi is saying it on Podcasts now.

Hostages + drop your weapons = you get to live in exile untouched for life, and the war ends

Obviously there is no way Hamas accepts.

This is what I've been waiting for, and FINALLY closes the obvious loop that some in here were trying to deny exists

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/iran-supreme-l...

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is thanking college students in the U.S. for joining Tehran’s “resistance front” against Israel and the U.S. with their protests over the mounting death toll in Gaza. He went on to praise them as newfound allies of Iran, writing: “You have now formed a branch of the Resistance Front and have begun an honorable struggle in the face of your government's ruthless pressure.”

In addition to battling the U.S. government and Israel, he used a common antisemitic trope to note that the “resistance front” is also taking on “the global Zionist elite–who owns most U.S. and European media corporations or influences them through funding and bribery.”

And so finally, the actual reality of what we've been saying in here for months or longer is spelled out crystal clear. Welcome campus protestors! Iran embraces you as one of theirs!

The Russia-Iran-NK-proxy axis will prove itself out given enough time.

lol yeah, the "Axis of Evil" nonsense will finally be vindicated any day now. We really are just speedrunning through the last 20 years of the Iraq War.

But that talks about a program to destroy tunnels from 2011-2015. El-Sisi arrives in 2014 (and it's been him ever since).

I'm suggesting maybe under him, things start to shift. This "leak" smells a little. And what is messed up is we're not seeing lots of tunnel destruction documentation from say 2020-2023....

I'd be interested in hearing you debate (with robust fact) what some of the smartest geopolitical minds on earth give incredible talks on. I could grab 3 engaging podcasts from voices on the left about this, but I don't know that you or anyone else would listen to them.

But to be clear, are you suggesting that the alliance between Russia, Iran+proxies, NK etc and their shared objectives, doesn't exist? They don't arm each other and support each other? Their relationship isn't as real as say the one people outline between the USA and Israel? Their shared goals of global disruption/chaos aren't real?

Axis of Rogues, Axis of Disruption, it's getting all manner of names as it's evolving and studied. But this isn't even a hidden axis in the slightest. They supply and help each other very publicly. I'm sort of amazed we may even need to debate it.

Yes there definitely could have been some nefarious activity on egypt's part. But now that it's out there .. the canal idea is good

Of course it is real rafiki

Obama'a favorite jew, upper East side jewish suprenesists, none of those comments bothered you though?

muslim citizens of Israel generally love Israel

So make the rest of them citizens. (WB and Gaza.)

So make the rest of them citizens. (WB and Gaza.)

Well is it 2 state, or isn't it? Do the Gazans get Gaza, or don't they?

And btw that citizenship WAS already offered to them before...

by Bill Haywood P

So make the rest of them citizens. (WB and Gaza.)

Many in East Jerusalem turned down citizenship when it was offered

But no, Israel cannot become a Muslim majority state
