In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

"what we were allowed to say on social media". lol some of the sites slowed the rapid spread of the ratty tabloid story for a few hours.

The major social media companies in the USA and in the world banned that topic , even banned the newspaper which carried that topic in some cases.

And they did that because they were "warned" by the government about "russian disinformation" (which ended up being a complete fabrication). Zuckerberg himself admitted the FBI told them that.

Twitter (when it was a democratic party social media) banned the New York Post for that story.

Many accounts that kept discussing that topic got banned as well.

But, no wonder you grotesquely minimize the extent of what happened, given it was your political allies who did that.

Tommy Tuberville keeps saying what Russia wants to hear

“I think Russian propaganda has made its way into the United States, unfortunately,
and it’s infected a good chunk of my party’s base,” Michael McCaul lamented.

Five days later, House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner, an Ohio Republican, echoed the sentiment,
conceding that some of his GOP colleagues are peddling rhetoric that’s “directly coming from Russia.”

he is not lying . THE USA broke its promise to Russia . I can only imagine if China started stock piling nuclear missiles in Mexico, Cuba and Canada what the USAs response would be

i apologize because i dont think i've thought about this laptop story for more than 30 seconds over the last two years..

according to the timeline i found the laptop was turned into the "establishment" FBI at the end of 2019. the establishment was Trump for over another year until he actually left office.

was "the establishment" covering for biden at the order of trump? is the establishment in the room with us right now?

Remember when republicans talk about "the deep state"? that's very simply civil servants who dislike republicans and operate to try to help democrats even during republican admins.

And the FBI is chief among them

by Slighted P

again. it was TRUMP'S FBI at the time.

Yes. It's a little surprising none of the Biden Ukraine conspiracies were supported by any of the emails/data we have from hacks and hard drives people like Rudy G had access to if they were more than standard far right nonsense. Like in the case of Trump illegally asking for campaign help from Ukraine we have a transcript released by the Trump white house. Bt for some reason that was ok.

Aren't you even a little curious who "the big guy" is that Hunter was holding 10% for in one of their Chinese business deals? There are multiple people on that email, who are all American citizens, and could easily clarify who it was if it wasn't Joe Biden. And yet almost 5 years later and not a single name has been floated out except Joe Biden.

The establishment can gaslight all it wants, and you can stick your head into the ground as muc

Again all those fantasy been debunked by the admitions of all witness lying with disinformation toward Joe Biden .

Furthermore.

The Republican-led House Oversight Committee is holding its first hearing Thursday in the impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden – and Republicans on the committee have made a series of false and misleading claims, as well as some other claims that have left out critical context.

Below is a CNN fact check. This article will be updated as additional fact checks are completed.

Republicans have presented no evidence Biden himself received foreign money
Republican Rep. James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said in his opening remarks at the hearing on Thursday that the committee has uncovered how “the Bidens and their associates created over 20 shell companies” and “raked in over $20 million between 2014 and 2019.”

Facts First: The $20 million figure is roughly accurate for Joe Biden’s family and associates, according to the bank records subpoenaed by the committee, but the phrase “the Bidens and their associates” obscures the fact that there is no public evidence to date that President Joe Biden himself received any of this money. And it’s worth noting that a large chunk of the money went to the “associates” – Hunter Biden’s business partners – not even Biden’s family itself.

So far, none of the bank records obtained by the committee have shown any payments to Joe Biden. And a Washington Post analysis in August found that, of about $23 million in payments the committee had identified from foreign sources, nearly $7.5 million went to members of the Biden family – almost all of it to Hunter Biden – and the rest to people Hunter Biden did business with. (The Post also questioned the use of the vague phrase “shell companies,” noting that “virtually all of the companies” that had been listed by the committee at the time had “legitimate business interests” or “clearly identified business investments.”😉

A Republican aide for the House Oversight Committee disputed the Post’s analysis on Thursday, saying that bank records obtained by the panel actually show that, of $24 million in payments between 2014 and 2019, $15 million went to members of the Biden family and $9 million went to associates. CNN has reached out to the Post for comment; the committee has not publicly released the underlying bank records that would definitively show the breakdown in payments.

The records obtained by the committee have shown that during and after Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president, Hunter Biden made millions of dollars through complex financial arrangements from private equity deals, legal fees and corporate consulting in Ukraine, China, Romania and elsewhere. Again, Republicans have not produced evidence that Joe Biden got paid in any of these arrangements.

2020 election -> no evidences , no evidences , no evidences .
Evidences: many got caught lying for the laptop story trying implicating Joe Biden …

And in the end of day , many politicians actually monetize their position , nothing new here and surely 2 billions from trump son in law shouldn’t be investigated either ?
It’s only 100 times worse …

So no evidences and far more worst actions been done on trump side but please , keep peddling…

the whole fbi dislikes republicans is hilarious because im not sure how it is in italy but law enforcement in the US is overwhelmingly republican. and the political appointees at the head of those agencies were appointed by Trump at the time of all of this.. something like 70% of the FBI are white middle aged men, most with military backgrounds.

all of these stories breakdown when you remember that these were all Trump's people that were apparently covering for biden because.......reasons.....

Surely no civil servants hates democrats right ……sight.
Deep state is nothing more then regular government employees being on the other side of whom is in office .

obama's FBI trashed hillary at a pivotal moment in the election cycle, but we're supposed to believe this same group of people PLUS some trump appointees then decided to throw in for Biden three years later?

are we supposed to believe they were just doing a makeup operation?

You don't think anyone ever denied Hunter had a laptop?

Dozens of intel officials signed a letter stating the laptop was just "Russian disinformation"

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/19...

Hunter received millions of dollars from China, with 10% going to "the big guy" which was his father, who previously claimed he was unaware of any "business deals" (bribes) between Hunter and China.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The explosive allegations at the center of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden were false, federal prosecutors said, and came from an ex-FBI informant who said he was in touch with Russian intelligence.

Smirnov has been charged with falsely reporting that Burisma executives paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million each around 2015 after hiring Hunter Biden to sit on its board and “protect us” from an investigation by the then-Ukrainian prosecutor general

No evidence has emerged that Joe Biden acted corruptly or accepted bribes in his current role or previous office as vice president.

Smirnov, meanwhile, had only routine business dealings with Burisma, and they did not start until 2017 after the prosecutor general was gone and when Joe Biden was unable to influence U.S. policy since he was out of office, prosecutors said.

Another crashed and burn conspiracy …
I mean keep up to date at least .

None of this says that anyone denied that someone had (stolen) Hunter's laptop. The controversy was over whether the info claimed was legitimate or not.

Exactly what promise was broken and when was it made?

Did you know that back in the 90s when Ukraine gave up its nukes, Russia promised to respect the territory of Ukraine and not attack it.

Then in 2014 they invaded and annexed Crimea.

Sounds like Trump and the FBI director he appointed were awfully incompetent to allow that to happen.

Were any of those civil servants fired or disciplined after that happened?

The 10% to the big guy email was in reference to a Chinese energy deal. And none of the several Americans CC'd on the email (and we know who they all are because it was sent to email accounts with their names on them) have offered any other explanation who the big guy is.

At some point if everyone is acting like they are guilty, it means they probably are. Of course what you can prove in a court of law is a completely separate conversation.

Yes project 2025 was built to address that among other things.

How to surgically remove every single disloyal civil servant from every place that matters, how to identify them, how to kick them out, how to replace them, to build a decent country.

Hm no at the beginning it was about if the laptop even existed.

And people got banned from social media if they insisted it did exist to be clear.

Democratic party social media. Where 99% of employees donated to the democratic party.

But then ofc you guys move goalposts all the times.

Tuberville walks out on recruits at dinn...

Does Tuberville (and Putin) think there was more US weaponry in Ukraine before or after the Russian invasion?

Yes. The fact that the bureaucracies can resist the will of elected officials is an overt feature of our government that I learned about in polisci in the 90's. It has pros and cons, but one pro is that when a deranged baboon is prez, his power is limited. He can't just order the IRS to audit his enemies and let his friends evade taxes, for example.

Calling that "the deep state" is like calling the FBI the secret police or calling the post office an underground communication network. It's not deep. It's just the state.

Richard Hanania theorizes this is actually an important component of why Western "democracies" work so well relative to the rest of the world. He argues generally people are dumb and uniformed and attracted to bad ideas. So what will happen in a Western "democracy" is that an official will get elected by promising a lot of bad, unworkable ideas; and then the bureaucracy will spend that official's term making sure none of the bad ideas get enacted. And the people are generally ok with it, as long as the good ideas that do get enacted make their lives better.

Hanania argues that in some ways totalitarian third world states with bad ideas are more pressured to enact the bad ideas they promise. Generally, those govts are going to make sucky choices anyways, and the people more or less accept this, so the totalitarian dictator stays in power by giving their followers the bad ideas they want. Turkey/Erdogan seems like a good example of this. His supporters want Islamism and xenophobia, and he gives it to them; and stays in power even though the results are predictably poor.

In Western democracies on the other hand, people actually expect their government to work; so when a govt gets elected on bad ideas, delivers on said ideas, and gets bad results; they quickly get voted out of office. We see that with all the "Soros DAs" that got elected on promises of criminal justice reform, and for the most part got the boot when the promised reforms were disasters.

I think part of what happened with the laptop debacle, is that the bureaucracy is running the same gaslighting strategy that worked before the internet that just doesn't work anymore. Pre internet NY Post runs the laptop story, the bureaucracy just announces the laptop is Russian disinformation, no one ever sees any of the info on it, and none are the wiser.

However, in the internet era the entire laptop contents are easy to find online, with receipts of everything. Names, phone numbers, email addresses, bank accounts, Venmo transfers, etc. etc. etc.

And then when anyone can see all the sordid details and not a single thing is refuted from it, it becomes tremendously obvious the "Russian disinformation" narrative is just a gaslighting hoax. And so the gaslighting doesn't work, except on ideologically possessed persons (like certain members of this thread) who support the gaslighting because they perceive it is in their interest to do so.

I am pretty sure there are still "insurrectionists" from 1/6/21 in jail waiting for their trial. The government can move very slow when it isn't in much of a hurry, which is most of the time.

the problem is people that believe in this laptop thing cant seem to ever explain the WHY of it. lol. WHY does the TRUMP bureaucracy gaslight the laptop as Russian propaganda if it's a real thing that has relevant information on it? literally the only answer that is given for this is "shadowy cabal".
