Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Asking the little country of 15 million people being attacked relentlessly from all directions by all its numerally much larger neighbors to be the one to unilaterally engage in politics while the other side promises nothing but violence and destruction is asking way too much.
If there has been decades of slaughter with one side always having the upper hand shouldn't the weaker side stop with it's Jihads and Intifadas?
Do you think the feeling is mutual on the other side?
Why would you get modded for that if that's what you believe?
Expecing the destruction of so many peoples lives and homes not to result in more radicalisation is asking way too too much
In any case politics is not unilateral.
Insurgencies are the result of no other options being viable.
Crushing all hopes of victory historically works pretty well. Takes time, blood, and treasure though.
Aside from the moral problems of such an approach, it's completely unrealistic here. This should be evident by the large amounts of people complaining that Gaza continues to get support, which is largely beyond the control of Israel. Gaza will never reach a point where they have no hope of getting rid of Israel.
If attempting to stop all violence against Israel through attacks against Gaza which result in an unacceptable amount of civilian deaths is too much for "the little country of 15 million people" against "its numerally much larger neighbors" then Israel needs to find another approach. Perhaps all out war isn't the best option and escalation management (yes even managing an event as awful as October 7) is the better approach.
Everyone seems to be saying that Israel will eventually lose a war with the Middle East for obvious reasons, yet they use that as a reason to continue escalating war.
No. India is a secular state.
And if Hindus in Pakistan were born there why the hell should they have to leave?
Why should people stop fighting when they believe their cause is just and they have no other options?
I don’t know any Palestinians so I can’t say.
I think it would have been better not to let in the people who hijacked the planes on 9/11 - that was pretty risky.
Nah, those guys don't generally hang gay people or mutilate women - they just worship guns and hope someone breaks into their houses so they can get a chance to legally kill someone.
Do you think the daughters of immigrants from countries where FGM is common should routinely have their vulvas checked by government agents?
If they're not, how would anyone know that they were abiding by the laws?
Or is FGM even actually against any US laws? I'm not sure if it is; someone should definitely get on that.
I said something very similar to that here and was told not to say that kind of thing again or face a ban.
You're right, that's very unlikely to happen, so you might as well stop suggesting that Israelis who believe the same things stop their fighting.
They have another option.
Admit defeat, recognize Israel as a state and their daddy, define borders and move on with life.
It sucks for them but Israel conquered the land and everytime they try to fight back things just get worse for them.
Presumably the US didn’t know they were risky so what should they have done? Stopped immigration for everyone from which countries, for how long and which age groups and genders etc?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
They’d know the same way that people know when illegal cock fights or bare knuckle fighting takes place. Word gets out that these practices are taking place.
It’s not much of an option. Some people would prefer to die martyrs than have their children and grandchildren have to live like that under hostile occupation.
It’s ironic that the people in America who say theyd be prepared to use guns and violence to protect their rights against a malignant government don’t seem to understand the Palestinians’ predicament.
True, so I don't blame them for that. But in the future they could have stopped immigration from the countries those guys were from, instead of just treating everyone who boards a plane like a criminal for the next 25 years.
Maybe, but those fights have lots of participants. FGM has very few, and could have just one perpetrator and one victim.
Wanting someone else’s land for yourself to build exclusive beachside property on is not a just cause.
Right, but you’re talking about a hypothetical social problem potentially involving many kids and several adults.
Yeah, I don't think that's the reason for their invasion (and neither do you). But even if it were, the Israelis apparently believe their cause is just, which is what you said was true about the Palestinians. Usually both sides in any conflict believe that.
