Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Cross can you clarify my "genocidal rethoric" recent ban now pls? Is it intended to mean I attributed to specific posters the responsibility for mass deaths? That I did and I am not sorry for that, I believe that and j think I had a right to say that.

I don't know, I just note them in the doc and it doesn't include all the general warnings to the thread that don't single out individuals or the instances where the argument was simply moved from that thread to this one.
It was a joke, implying that was the stats for just today.

You posted about the morality of killing every "man, woman, and child" in Palestine, and then polished it off with telling Pro-Palestinian posters that they were responsible as if they had slit a childs throat themselves or some such. I can't believe this needs an explanation, to be honest.

I wrote the latter but not the former. My post was basically: every death in Palestine is the personal responsibility of anyone who doesn't support Israel. If the whole world was allin togheter with Israel against terrorism (the only morally allowed position) there would be no Islamic terror, and so no Palestinian civilians death in the attempt to eradicate Islamic terror.
I believe that and I think I can say that. Any if or but about Israel completely justified reaction, anything other than an absolute support for any Israel action without limit to eradicate terror, kills civilians.
Is this a position which I can't express in this forum?

But on June 15th when I reported 72o for saying that Israelis were " psychotic, racist pieces of ****", you gave him a "careful".
Later he caught a temp for commenting on Boid's appearance of all things.
I stopped posting for a week after he didn't catch a ban for that whopper, because frankly I found that about as shocking a statement as we've seen in that thread. Truly I wanted no part in being anywhere near that filth.
There's ONE country in the world that is majority Jewish. 72o doesn't just think it's a country of psycho pieces of ****, he's totally emboldened to say it.
So if you're going to make temps like the ones today, just know that I'm counting on you to keep the Jews in that thread safe too.

Again, as mostly just an observer I found this exceedingly bananas. So I’ve observed it being ok to say that Israelis are 1) pieces of ****, 2) raping people using dogs and 3) committing genocide / bloodthirsty murders, etc. So it seems that personal attacks against other posters are the only thing that is really not allowed, meaning the way to subvert this is just to insult / demean / attack / fabricate lies against the nationality, racial, ethnic or religious group to which they belong.

In Gaza, the vast vast majority of people celebrated Oct 7th. We are very cautious here while discussing what that means in terms of characterizing people who'd support those murders and the methods used in them. Because the mods would ban-hammer us.
But the reverse here is not being enforced. Israelis and Jews are being depicted as savages. As Spartans from 300 just eager to go slit throats. And imho THAT has to stop.

Ok, so as I have said, derogatory characterizations of governments are allowed. Derogatory characterizations of populations are not.
As you can see here, 72off was responding to a post that specified they were referencing the Israeli government.
I don't ignore Palestinian deaths. But I do think there were many many off-ramps to minimize those deaths over the year, and sadly none were taken.
Does this make me racist?
The Israel government doesn't ignore Palestinian deaths either; it just gives them one tenth (or less) the value of an Israeli death.
And yes, that does make them and anyone who agrees with them racist.
If these posts said "Israelis" the way other posts that have been moderated said "Palestinians", then it would have been treated equally as harshly. Regardless, I still gave it a warning as I felt it to be unnecessarily incendiary.

I'm closer to 50 than 40, so I've been around the block a few times.
The act of dehumanizing the Jew is old. Biblical old. We killed Christ, we caused both world wars, we caused the great depression, just take your pick. The media, the financial system, whatever you want.
This is how we get dehumanized. Now we just want to eat Palestinian children's bones. And this will continue until people say STOP.
So I hope some of you say STOP with me. And in turn I'll be an ally in the other direction.

Conflating Israel with all Jews is not acceptable and needs to stop, as has been repeatedly outlined in that thread. The accusations of not protecting the Jews in that thread is ridiculous; my own family is Jewish and its deeply insulting. Furthermore, this debate about the I/P thread is over. More posts will just be deleted. Its more than enough.
