The nature of Sanders's political bent meant he was always going to poll well in a multi-way poll (i.e. likely leading in a 5 way poll but that means 30-40% at most) but then be not much higher in a head-to-head poll vs any single opponent, i.e. likely still below 50%. Who that single opponent was and how they were previously polling multi-way would have had very little impact on this.

biden didn't come out of the blue, if you go read the 2p2 election betting thread during that time you'll see tons of people explaining the various reasons why once the race narrowed to fewer candidates and more of the voting would be taking place in areas in the south and areas with more black people that biden would get a big surge and bernie would falter

granted it surprised many people, but most people are spending countless hours understanding electoral betting markets, anyone who did would not have been surprised

This guy is the first candidate I’ve ever seen to which there is legitimately a cultish devotion, nonsense makeshift parades, a constant in-your-face attitude of ‘I love trump, deal with it’ be it by MAGA hats, MAGA attire, or whatever the **** else they decide that has a singular purpose of pissing off the libs, be or something as small as the easily provable and beyond laughable lies ITT of PB, fgators, et al, or something big like threats, violence, riots, or some combination of the three. There’s, at least from my perspective, a difference between people who believe his bullshit and will parrot it or are intentionally racist or liars or just being trolls to get a reaction like Mercier wearing a MAGA hat in the 50k for some reason (MAGA chuds), and people who just view trump as a means to an end (project 2025 chuds, people who care about the nominal tax cuts they get to the point where that’s a priority)

They’re all shitty people, either cuz they’re MAGA chuds or cuz they’re willing to make moral compromises for the sake of perceived nominal self interest, but can’t gloss all of them as the same thing
