Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

Must be an "Uncle Joe" thing.

The scary thing is that you're not even joking.

Stalin beat the Nazis so that gives him a bit of leeway with me. I understand that it is a negative to most Westerners.

Comrade, they don't even teach that revisionist horseshit in Russia any more, although they still did when I was in primary school. These days they are focusing more on how Putin is defeating the Nazis in Ukraine.

is this your edgelord schtick or do you honestly believe these statements?

Stalin was kind of a visionary with all the effort he put into Ivanov in the hopes of getting dudes to inseminate chimps for creating super humans when his forced labor campaign was deemed as unsustainable.

Stalin did beat the Nazis and the US beat the Japanese.

I've been having fun asking it lots of math questions recently. My favourite is "what is the least integer whose square is between 10 and 30" or something like this.

I hope it corrects your english.

I see. And did the other allies beat anyone, or did they just sit around with their thumbs up their asses?

Rear view mirror sports ball.

He's unlikely ever to better Con Air. Just the way he delivers the line, 'On any other day, that might seem strange.'

LOL.

It was an entertaining movie, but it wouldn't be a compliment to say that was any actor's crowning acheivement.

Has there every been an actor with as big a variance in movies as Cage?

He's definitely up there.

by PointlessWords P

I cant think of any great movies that he was in.

Peggy Sue Got Married is considered a good movie. Leaving Las Vegas. Not sure he's been in anything else good

Moonstruck's another I can think of off the top of my head, and I understand Adaptation was pretty good.

I wouldn't say it was good, but I can recall being entertained by The Rock.

It sounds like most people ITT have not seen Adaptation, which is a serious shame. It isn't just a good Nicholas Cage movie; It is a great film, period.

Pig was very good.

Face Off.

Stalin wasn't the only one to "beat the Nazis" as Victor would have us believe, in line with the revisionist history of WWII that used to be taught in schools in the Soviet Union.

can't believe this is necessary, he's been in some of the all time greatest movies of all time

there's been plenty mentioned already, but a few unmentioend are

wild at heart & raising arizona

Trivia: His real name is actually Nicolas Coppola, he is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew.

yeah, boris' relatives only did that via the lend lease program

we were bankrolling the soviet war machine, giving them so much money, food, weapons, & other supplies that we literally topped the government of iran to install a regime that just let us take over the iranian railways so we could get our stuff overland to them that much faster

Soviets did about 90% of the beating iirc. the West did a good job bombing civilians as usual.

Adaptation is one of my favorite movies of all time. Absolute tour de force performances by all three leads.

Nic Cage, Nic Cage, and Meryl Streep were indeed great, but the movie also had an incredible supporting cast, Brian Cox as McKee was my favorite. (Perfect ending due to Brian Cox's great acting too.)

Charlie Kaufman's films are always interesting, I think this is my second favorite next to Eternal Sunshine.

Uh huh. Of course they did, Viktor. Of course they did.

Guys, just back away slowly without making any sudden movements and we'll be fine.
