Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

no its directed at the IDF and the people actually shooting kids as the recent Guardian article just illustrated. its extremely disingenuous and in bad faith.

Mason's vision for 2p2 was discourse with a little bit of fun. I find inflammatory language such as 'baby murderers' etc. to be extremely off-putting.

I actually stopped reading the thread because of such word violence. Maybe I'm a bit of a wimp, but I am surely not alone.

Victor, I have no issues with you but come on friend. You know the whole “baby killers” thing was a big issue for everyone and definitely was a big factor in why KS gave you a month off.

I see that you made that post a few days before I took over moderating that thread. I did have to specify in the new rules that those terms were no longer acceptable.

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports gen

I will give you credit where it is due that you have stopped doing that for the most part, with a few hiccups, and I appreciate you making that one less thing I have to deal with. But it definitely was a thing at one point…

That may well be, which is, as I said, why I provided the quote with no judgement. But it definitely isn't especially clear, so I could see someone taking it that way, especially with the extra context crossnerd has now added.

The victim actually said she felt “disgusted and unsafe”, that she felt “sexually harassed” and “crawling out of [her] skin”, that she was having anxiety in real life over it and how she froze, that she blamed herself, that she never ever wanted to talk to him again, and that he should be banned.

You do not have all the information. I do. And I can see in her own words how she actually felt about it, and it’s upsetting.

She felt this way based on just words from an anonymous poster on an internet forum? I'm very concerned with how she deals with real life issues. I hope she is feeling better but this is not normal.

Yes, I agree with you that you were directing the comments at the Israeli government, and that you have stopped doing it. You’ve been cooperative with me, and you’ve never given me a hard time about me moderating you.

I am just clarifying that there were contentious debates in the past over the usage of that language.

People get fired from real jobs for jokes made in poor taste fwiw. Trust me, I ****ing know.

It's a shame that we live in such an uptight world.

I find it hard to believe anybody on this forum supports killing babies. That being said, I think you should be able to say that if that's what you believe. I couldn't imagine being offended by someone calling me something I'm not. I would simply correct them. I certainly wouldn't report them.

This is how I feel when they call me antisemitic

You can’t call people who kill babies, baby killers?

No! That's mean and you might hurt their feelings.

by DonkJr P

When was it that this happened?

Sometime around the 31st of May, 2021.

You’re not allowed to say anything in this forum if it is the opposite view of what the mods believe in. I was temp banned a while back for giving my political opinion…in the political forum [emoji2357]
And it’s not like I was just randomly saying something. Someone asked me for my specific political opinion, I answered them with said specific political opinion(in the politics forum) and was banned for having that opinion.
This site and the way it is moderated is a complete joke and is why it will continue to slowly die instead of grow and gain new members.

I would say this is mostly correct. I don't recall Victor saying that people on the forum were baby killers. I do recall him saying repeatedly that various people on the forum were supportive of, or even gleeful about, babies being killed.

I'll leave it to others to decide how meaningful a distinction that is.

I would be shocked if CN, ganstaman, or KS held the same views as, say, housenuts.

I share this perspective.

I'll just add that the distinction was not enough to avoid some really serious personal offense to some of our Jewish posters, and it was just generally too inflammatory a claim, regardless of its veracity, for the conversations to continue in that thread. I made the decision to moderate it not based on my own personal views, but what I considered to be best for the forum as a whole. Precise language is now a requirement for posting in that thread.

given that the un said they've been looking into it since oct./23 and haven't been to find any evidence of a single sexual assault occurring, you might want to add referring to palestinians or hamas as rapists to the list of no-nos. call me crazy, but i feel like wholly unsubstantiated claims of sexual assault are more inflammatory and cause more offense than accurate descriptions of this ongoing genocide

72off, I have at least twice given an answer to the reasons I will allow credible claims of rape and sexual violence, and my reasoning, which I cited both times, is based both in social science and women’s history.

Do any of you ever consider for even a moment the amount of effort and work I have so far put into that thread? I don’t know what more you could ask for- I’ve been transparent, honest, egalitarian, thoughtful.

It’s been two months and it’s already killed all the joy I had in posting here. Give it a rest for a bit. I’m sincerely asking.

This thread is back open. Please try to be nice.

Hi Crossnerd. Hope your Saturday is just swell.

It seems a little unfair of 2p2 admin to put you in the position of policing the Middle East thread by yourself. I know I wouldn't want to be in that position.

Close this thread, direct complaints to atf. ez game.

I volunteered for the role.

Show the post chillrob

This took me a bit under 8 minutes Victor.

To Chillrob "bc you love killing children and you love nazies"

To Mets (and us): "This is what you guys love. murdering babies"

How you'd typically talk to us all

"will provide some material to the zionist baby murder supporters"

I spent no time at all there, did not have to go very far back either. There are SO many of these. You really wanted to try to bluff past this? Imagine if I put in some actual time in there? Victor the receipts are all there.

You called us baby murder supporters on the daily. Why bother denying that?
