Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.
Thanks.

let me propose a sensible, frankly wonderful solution:
mets has to grovel to king spew rather than crossnerd. the honor and dignity of all parties is preserved.
do we have a deal?!
Please do find as many of those attack posts on Mets as you can, and PM them to me. I'm tired of being gaslit.
I didn't read that exchange, seemed ridiculous but I'll assume you're right as was easy to tell trolly was incorrect from the 1st post. Mets could absolutely have CN on ignore when she 1st entered the I/P thread as she was not a mod at the time. The rest of that exchange I didn't read.
Apologize to him trolly
This sounds reasonable
yes its def racist. and its not an attack on you to post what you consider "Engish so bad." not everything is about you.
The conversation about Mets is done. As I have stated repeatedly, the only person who can bring back Mets is Mets.
/End.
Trolly avoiding moderation for his attacks are like running from a bear. I don't need to be faster than the bear, only faster than you. Trolly doesn't need to be smarter than the people he attacks, he only needs to smarter than the mods. I'll leave it open for discussion whose intelligence I'm commenting on.
Thank **** for that. Now we can go back to using this thread as god intended.
Surely in this analogy, he only needs to be smarter than victor, mets and Luciom. The mods are kinda the bear.
Different bear attacks on different days.
I'd replace "smart" with "clever". I would never accuse Trolly of being smart. But he's definitely clever.
Anyway, I'm going to tell Rococo what you said about him.
Was it this?
trolly's game is weak and ineffective. if you are getting riled up by that guy then the problem is you
I am amazed at how personally invested some people seem to be in moderator decisions about other posters.
You've made this point before while browser was on his banning spree.. The answer is the same today: people care about these forums. Some posters have been around for twenty years. Thousands of hours have been devoted to reading and posting here. When things happen on these forums that seem unjust, people take notice, just like when we see things in real life that are unjust.
I don't think I ever had a friendly back and forth with Mets. His posting history is also pretty lame and juvenile in general, once you start to look at it. I don't care about Mets himself, but I do care about what the banning and subsequent commentary about his banning represents, and it isn't a good sign for the health of this forum, which is the ONLY forum on which I post.
yeah mets is kind of a mascot here, has all time record for post count - will likely be never broken even if account is perma'd
just kind of feels like him getting banned is the death knell of this place
Bro, wherever else he racked up his post count, he posted in one thread on this whole subforum. I read or post in most threads here except I/P and trans, and I've never interacted with the guy. Easy on the histrionics.
I have been around here longer than almost any other regular poster, including you.
Even if people disagree with the moderation on the margins, it is trivially easy to avoid getting banned. If a person doesn't care enough about posting here to make the trivial effort required to avoid getting banned, why should I care?
You don't have to care. You have posted several times recently that this forum doesn't mean that much to you, which may be the healthy choice. Rank and file regulars around here do apparently care. Regular people don't want to see people banned for no good reason, or even worse, because of personal animosity from a mod.
This means little. The mods here will always circle the wagons and support each other.
Yes that's true on every forum. It's like how the cops will cover for one of their number beating up the wrong guy, only in this case they beat up a guilty person.
The question should be whether he should have been beaten up at all.
its roughly same reason you decided to spend hundreds of hours of your free time moderating 2p2 in exchange for no pay?
like 'wow i cant believe people care about how 2p2 is moderated' is an odd take from someone who has invested 1000x more time and effort into the general topic of 2p2 moderation than the average p0ster.
i cant believe you care so much about x that you spent 5 hours on it, says man who has spent 500 hours doing x
Lol. Roc, you should get this guy doing your timesheets, you'd be getting that Upper East Side penthouse by Christmas.
I apparently do care enough to post in a way that avoids me getting banned. Admittedly, this doesn't prove that I care much. I also make the trivial effort required to avoid pissing all over the bathroom floor.
I just have limited personal investment in advocating for people who don't themselves care enough to make the trivial effort required to avoid pissing on the metaphorical bathroom floor.
