Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

its roughly same reason you decided to spend hundreds of hours of your free time moderating 2p2 in exchange for no pay?

like 'wow i cant believe people care about how 2p2 is moderated' is an odd take from someone who has invested 1000x more time and effort into the general topic of 2p2 moderation than the average p0ster.

i cant believe you care so much about x that you spent 5 hours on it, says man who has spent 500 hours doing x

I care more about the forum as a whole than I do about individual posters who, as someone else put it, are habitual line steppers.

Even so, I didn't ask for the job, I didn't enjoy the job, and I didn't care enough to continue doing a job that I didn't enjoy.

I do care enough about the forum to avoid endlessly hassling volunteer mods because I know how hard it is to find mods for this forum, and I have a strong suspicion about what will happen to the forum if no one is willing to be a mod.

by Rococo P

I have been around here longer than almost any other regular poster, including you.

Even if people disagree with the moderation on the margins, it is trivially easy to avoid getting banned. If a person doesn't care enough about posting here to make the trivial effort required to avoid getting banned, why should I care?

You're abit of a newbie imo but I agree. It is'n t like the bad old days of highly partisan mods. There's a very strong effort to be fair and accomodate just about everyone. As you say, it's at most a minmal effort to avoid getting banned.

imo posters should also be trying to minimise the work for our mods rather than being determined pains.

mets' issue is that he is not capable of dropping an argument and wont shut the **** up despite being asked/told repeatedly to do so by mods.

This is why Mets was banned by the moderation Team and YOU KNOW IT.

Boids, if you continue to attack me and my integrity, not only will Mets definitely never be allowed back, but you will most likely be gone next. I am done asking you to stop and I am done qualifying myself.

This is what was sent to Mets by King Spew and the moderation team when I officially gave up trying to keep him here.

mets.... time to wake up and smell the roses. The mod team has reached the end of our collective attempts to right your ship.

For the sake of OUR sanity, a permanent ban is the next action. No warnings, no timeouts, no 7 day events. Also, all your alias' will be gone as well.

My suggestion is to not try to push our buttons for the next six months. None of us have the patience to deal with you any more.

Feel free to respond but honestly, I am not opening up a conversation here.

He couldn’t do it and three days later blazed into the I/P thread to call everyone antisemites for the millionth time, so now it is done. Reminding us over and over in this thread what a headache he was and still apparently IS to mod will not go toward getting him back.

No one, and I mean NO ONE, has been given more chances than Mets.

It’s enough. The conversation is over.

I say start dropping the banhammer on some of the whiners. At least that'll give them something legit to whine about when they come back.

D2,

My friend did like 5 to 6 bottles of wine last night, no puking.

He can also easily do a whiskey bottle in a night.

Can you outdrink that? Always curious to know your level.

I love how King Spew was the harbinger of death for Mets and everyone gets angry at crossnerd.

I've been on the wagon for about 3 months, so very rusty. Couldn't come close.

At the height of my powers, yeah I could probably compete. I can easily do 2 bottles in 3 hours from a standing start. 4 bottles would probably be about 6 hours if I'm to remain standing. 6 would be a whole day affair.

Not a big drinker of spirits any more, and when I do indulge, it'd be vodka. I used to go through 0.7 - 1 liters of vodka's worth of vodka cranberries a session (6-10hrs) while playing pool in my younger days. 100ml an hour easy, and that's a leisurely pace.

Man, your friend needs help; that just isn't healthy.

You haven't lived.

That’s more dying than living.

Re: ChatGPT.

It is actually shocking how much ChatGPT knows about the drama between users on this site. It seems like if you ask those kinds of questions on a weekend, you get very detailed answers, as opposed to asking during the week when there are a lot of people using it for business purposes. You'd think it was a regular poster that was tasked with writing a summary of events. Interestingly, our AI overlords think that a lot of us are *******s, and not always the ones you'd expect.

You guys should play around with it. It's a lot of fun.

It kind of just crapped out at the end there without finishing its thought, but my point stands: ChatGPT loves and respects Victor. That makes two of us! 😀

Artificial intelligence truly is no match for natural stupidity.

Rafiki, I’ve deleted your last post and I’m frankly done engaging with you until you’re willing to do it in an assertive and respectful way.

It is absolutely fine to attack my positions. It is not fine to continuously attack me as a person.

@donkjr, lol

Quite the 5 star review you got there.

I think even chatgp could not keep a straight face for that entire analysis.

The Chappelle quote? Damn that was just one of my faves to pair up with the silly photo of him. It was going to be pretty much any quote of his I could find, and I chose that one over the infamous/unfamous one.

Maybe we gotta give CN a breather. I think we're way in the red here now. Take your Sunday to yourself Jenn. This site can manage for the day. Sorry that set you off, wasn't expecting that tbh. I'll be more considerate.

For some context though, a silly Chapelle photo and quote is 1/50th of what we typically endured from Victor. So you can imagine how much we wish we could delete his posts.

I said the Mets conversation is over. There is no need to quote any more of that conversation, with or without Chapelle. Please move on.

I am happy to read this. There have been times that you have mentioned how much you drink, and I thought it was worrisome. I think, and I bet most would agree, that you are one of the best posters around here, and we can't have you missing some days because of alcohol-induced health issues!

Thanks for the kind words.

Oh, I've spoken here before about being an alchie, I'm not precious about it. Seems my posting has improved during this period of sobriety, I've been randomly complimented on my humour a number of times recently which is a new experience for me.
