Donald Trump falsely suggested Kamala Harris had misled voters about her race as the former president appeared before the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago Wednesday in an interview that quickly turned hostile.
The Republican former president wrongly claimed that Harris, the first Black woman and Asian American to serve as vice president, had in the past only promoted her Indian heritage.
“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said while addressing the group’s annual convention.

Harris presents a conundrum to Trump and his supporters - they don't know which part of her heritage to direct their racist hate at.
Wouldn't denounce calling Harris a DEI hire, instead just refused to answer by repeatedly telling the interview to define DEI, which she did immediately.
She definitely is a DEI hire. Let's just back up a second here. I'm coming from a position which recognizes the Republicans and conservatives as the original kings of identity politics, the bad kind, aka white supremacy. So I have zero problem with loosening the racialized ranks and intentionally adding color in all kinds of places, even if there is a disproportionate butthurt from those who feel they were ever slightly "more qualified". Cry me a river. So I'm for DEI and I don't see the point in denying its application. The Biden camp blurted out it was going to choose a woman of color, figured out most any of those qualified had backgrounds which indicated they might not be totally controllable, and settled on Kamala even though she is a terrible politician and a hot mess. They knew Kamala would be loyal, that she doesn't really care about anything other than her own aggrandizement. So, to be clear, not only is she a DEI hire but one who is beyond obviously not qualified. None of these people are qualified to be president, but she also isn't.
Told the audience that immigrants were coming to America and taking black jobs, then when asked what a black job was he said "anybody with a job."
Again with the denials. There is a racialized job landscape in America with lower status, lower paying jobs going disproportionately to black people. Those with lower tier jobs are going to face much more competition from immigrant profile currently entering the country. This shouldn't be news to anyone. It takes a generation or two for immigrants to start competing for "white" jobs, but they do and the pressure whites feel from that has a lot to do with Trump's popularity. In fact the El Paso shooter cited this very phenomenon in his manifesto or whatever. He didn't care about immigrants picking fruit. He was worried about their children growing up to be desk jockeys or whatever.
Immigration does drive down wages in the lower wage sector. I'm not saying that is the entirety of the economic impact of immigration or even making a judgement on it, but Trump does make an argument which happens to be pro black which black people can relate to and which I think is very unlikely to be said by the white liberals. Articulating this one point is probably why Trump did this appearance. It probably tested very well with black people, but obviously failed when skillfully contested.
Nobody is supporting any of these people, really, besides the oligarchs. People are just trying to trigger their cultural other and Trump is a pretty good tool for that.

Kamala has closed on Trump in PA since 7/21/24 when Biden stepped down. In the 8 polls in PA since then Harris trails by an average of 0.4%. She has won two of the multi candidate polls and tied one. On 7/21 Biden was trailing Trump by 4.4% in PA.
The most recent polls in PA, and actually in every state, have Kamala continuing to gain.
My guess is that it isn't going to be specifically about suburban voting though in particular suburban women will be continuing to move towards Harris not just because of abortion anymore but now there is also Vance making women feel inferior. It's going to be about a huge shift in black voters (12% of the PA population), a shift in young voters, and a big shift in women voters.

I'm not sure if people are saying she's unqualified. It's a pretty low bar to meet. That being said, there are tons of qualified people, which then makes you ask why her over all the other qualifieds?
