Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

like youtube in particular skews very young

a lot of people like mr beast have "official demographics" that declare their average view age is 27 but in reality it's closer to 7 that 27

basically the only kids who are accurately age represented are those who have accounts setup by their parents (and they all have burners to get around when needed with a quick login switcheroo - it's pretty astounding how capable a 10 year old who is unable to

Can confirm my 5 year old used to watch Mr. Beast. Not anymore though.

by rickroll P

breastfeeding videos are far and away the most popular videos on youtube that do not ever get included in the rec algo

it's basically porn for children who can't get around the porn blockers their parents put in

What the good ****.

he still watches both ๐Ÿ˜€

but on a more serious note, they often just use their parents account so even without shenanigans of intentional deception, it'll appear to advertisers as if someone in their 40s is watching

Nah, don't think he ever watched breast feeding porn though I would be more okay with that than him watching some dude who has a diddler in his team.

Can also confirm this yes.

What's "some dude who has a diddler in his team"?

Mr Beast had someone on his team who I think stepped down because they were found sending inappropriate messages to minors.

Edit: Allegedly. No clue if confirmed or not.

Ah right, not up to date with the latest Mr Beast news here as you can tell.

On this page alone, outside of PW (who likely has an older account somewhere), every account is 10+ years old

Yeah, you're right that most social media platforms are most heavily in the age group of 18-30 but I think the shift towards an increasing age in many places - like facebook and reddit makes a lot of sense with peoples habits and what they like.

The avg reg user here is probably 40 atm, while the avg age in 2009 was probably 28 - mainly because it's a lot of the same people and habits are hard to break. I would assume that there is going to be a fair amount of amalgamation across social media platforms towards maybe fb, youtube and reddit with the user age continuing to increase.

I remember as a kid with video games in the late 80s and 90s being heavily weighted towards kids and younger people with adults a lot less interest. Now, it seems like video games are appreciated by all age groups way more than before for similary reasons.

Yeah can't say I care much about Mr Beast either but have to make sure my kid is not watching **** he shouldn't be watching.

I don't understand why you guys want to keep lying obscenely like this.

For ex they all know trump wants to deport every single illegal alien the federal government gets in contact with in any way.

And they all agree, and it isn't policy now, but trump promises it will be.

Why do you lie, when you know this is obviously true, denying MAGA is about explicit, transparent, policy changes supporters vociferously agree with?

Why do you ****ing lie?

Let’s be honest here, there’s no thread in politics where this guy can be avoided. And holy crap at how many posts this guy makes per day exclusively posting in politics

And for someone who is a magnet for getting people banned for getting people to respond to his incendiary attacks in people he sure gets to make a lot of incendiary attacks on people

you know how in werewolf some games would have # of posts per day restrictions...

mod chat werewolf game? who's in?

I dont know about the breastfeeding thing, but my own empirical evidence supports this observation. My son and multiple nephews all used to watch Mr. Beast videos, and they all aged out by 12 years old at the latest.

Also, I passively saw plenty of videos, including videos with "Chris" (his sidekick who became trans and then had the child porn thing), and I would not ban Mr. Beast just for that. Same as I would not ban my kids from watching Good Will Hunting because of Epstein's behavior. At some point you have to be able to separate the art from the artist, especially when it is supporting cast behavior.

What did Epstein have to do with Good Will Hunting?

Wait, did you mean Weinstein?

by d2_e4 P

Wait, did you mean Weinstein?

Yes

The guy is averaging 50 posts per day, all of them are in politics, and every thread in this forum gets derailed by him and by people responding to his attacking people or ideologies

Plz explain to me to why this is allowable when calling him out on it gets you banned?

I would never suggest someone should get banned for far right viewpoints but the guy is toxicity en masse and you’re more than willing to ban people for attacking the guy who literally lives his life 24/7 in this subforum spewing nonsense and attacks

The trans thing is not relevant. Heโ€™s a grown man he can go ahead and masquerade as a woman all he wants.

You should however โ€œbanโ€ him for having someone on his team who likes to send inappropriate messages to minors.

The powers that be stopped giving a **** years ago.

That's an insanely stupid standard. Every person with an organizational structure should be banned as soon as one person in their org is found to be doing something morally wrong?

I’m fine with them not giving a **** but then I keep finding a way to eat 1 week bans or inexplicable infractions for calling him on his bullshit

If you stop giving a **** about that I’m perfectly content with them not giving a **** about Luciom

Calling it "calling him out on bullshit" is a bit disingenuous bro. You keep getting banned for personal attacks, which you readily acknowledge are such by prefacing them with "I'm gonna eat a ban for this, but..." I mean, what do you expect to happen?

I probably deserved the last ban I got cuz **** that guy, I have no qualms about telling him what a POS he is and regret none of it if his 9-5 is posting hateful performance art attacking anyone in this forum who doesn’t believe what he believes

Before that I got banned cuz I kept intentionally misspelling his name and apparently that impacted his MENTAL HEALTH which is exhaustingly stupid

My broader point stands

There is no world where you can convince me this forum is a better place cuz Luciom is able to post his stream of consciousness at minimum 50 times a day protected from attack
