Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

they tend to latch onto whichever group they feel at the moment is the most at risk and don't do much beyond that

like this is about one of the stupidest movements i've ever seen in my life

these are people who would be stoned to death if they were freely gay in a palestinian state

so don't bother trying to attach logic nor reason behind it

you got a cite on the whole stoning to death? bc Im pretty sure thats not the case.

who do you think has killed more gay people in Palestine? Israel or the crazy Islamists?

meanwhile, lets talk about how great Israel treats Palestinian gays.

Right, I got the response I was after from rockroll and checkraisedraw. Thanks to the rest of you who tried but didn't understand a basic question.

Kill to death ratio

Israel has thousands of Palestinian hostages

Palestine had like 50 Israeli hostages

Then they did some hostage swaps or something? Maybe they were just hostage talk ideas

Israeli “hostages”: actual terrorists
Palestinian hostages: peace activists from a small town

You pro-Hamas liars disgust me.

Also how is it Israel’s fault that Hamas hides in hospitals, schools, and random houses? I’m sorry but countries have a right to kill civilians in a just war.

checkraise is a reactionary so that does track with how you process information from the "far left".

yup, a bunch of whataboutism

fyi, i never said they should throw their support into a queers for israel

and victor, i'm sorry but if you for one second believe your own nonsense here i think i'm going to have to finally give up the belief that you are not beyond redemption if you truly believe that gays would be accepted and not met with violence in a free palestinian state

unlike you, i've spent several years living in the middle east and muslim countries, things would have been very, very bad for me if i were openly gay to the point that a big talking point amongst expats in the region is what to do if you're there and you are gay - what precautions should you take, how to deal with hotels and checking in, how to act in public, etc etc - and mind you these are not locals who are treated by much stricter measures and where a flamboyantly gay american can sort of blend in due to language and cultural barriers, a flamboyantly gay local can not just live normally, they must suppress their true selves wholly or at least in public (and always be at risk of discovery)

Intent doesn’t matter in killing actually. Jeffrey dahmer eating someone is exactly the same thing as someone using lethal self-defense.

The pro-Palestine side is not sending their best folks

Confirmation bias is a powerful thing. Those who don't give the 'right answer' can't have understood the possibly flawed question

I'm not sure what information I am supposed to process from the far left. Wtf does this even mean? I think the far left are a bunch of ignorant, deluded morons (same as the far right) if that helps.

this reminds me of the Atlantic article that talked about "legally killed children."

liberals are pretty slick to pull off that bit of consent. and sick.

Aren’t you the least bit ashamed that I destroyed the 186k deaths talking point that you defended and you just went on like it was nothing? I would love to destroy the “Gazans are literally starving!” talking point as well when I get the chance.

Well if they did, they neither answered it nor explained why it was flawed. Shocking really, since we're talking about the 3 most effective communicators on the forum here, who have a history of exemplary reading and writing comprehension.

this is dishonest. we are talking about Gaza or Palestine in general did you live there? did you travel there?

I find it hard to believe they are just stoning gays to death all the time. maybe they are! I am certainly open to evidence. but you have provided none.

@D2 Some of us allow that you can think

Yeah I’m sure you wake up every day and shed a tear for all the dead children killed by Soviet forces during WW2. Westerners are so privileged they don’t even understand how war works or why civilian deaths can be justified NECESSARILY or we could never challenge evil states that commit senseless acts of violence.

No idea what we're talking about but Queers for Palestine are without question my favorite people. Being pro-Hamas as a ''queer'' when you know they would throw you off buildings for being exactly that is something special.

by chezlaw P

@D2 Some of us allow that you can think

I can barely understand a word of what you've said in your last 3 posts. Maybe try louder and with more hand gestures.

Or you could think.

Why on earth would the left be against Netanyahu ahmmmm a real brain teaser

H mm maybe its not a country we're against but actions and policies.

Hmm maybe we didn't understand the question

You know someone has absolutely no argument when they barge into a thread with some nonsense fortune cookie le epic critical thinker line.

Never thought I’d see you say something based but here we are.

I'm not really in the mood to puzzle out what some borderline illiterate donkey might have meant when he threw a bunch of words together in a seemingly random order.

you're clinging onto semantics here instead of agreeing that they are indeed feckless idiots

they can both agree with your beliefs but be absolute morons for doing so and that doesn't mean others who subscribe to the same belief are necessarily wrong for doing so

stop living in a binary us vs them world

Love you too buddy.

thrown off buildings in Gaza!

do we got a cite for this? you called me some names earlier and now you post this. bc I really want to hear about all the gays they throw off buildings?

google tells me that like maybe 1.5%? of men in the world are gay

like, thats a lot of building flinging.

they proly throw so many off of buildings that it kills passers by a lot too.

ahh, well I guess we can thank Israel for eliminating all the buildings in Gaza. they are a saving life!

victor, you're trying to attack obvious rhetorical exaggeration here and that's patently dishonest

it's sad seeing you do that

you know for a fact just how bad it is for queers there and how much it'd be under a hamas led state

this is the equivalent to someone saying the Warriors will crush the Lakers tonight and then when the lakers lose by 20 you claim they weren't crushed at all, in fact, look at them, they are all still upright, not once were they knocked down and crushed
