well it's certainly not the guns. so we must look beyond.
I mean it could have been my brother and it wouldn’t change my opinion on trump one bit
It would change my opinion on my brother though
i don't like that this is a fact of life, but if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our golf courses are soft targets...
only solution is to have 100 heavily-armed guards literally everywhere, there is no downside. hey i don't make the rules
But why need so many guards when more guns equal better security which would mean feeling more safe ?
damn, good question. now i'm stumped
For my part I think once the rifle comes out of the duffle bag you've exited the realm of politics.
And, strategically, if you're going to abandon the political process for just straight up violence (under the guise of rebelling against tyrannical rule, or whatever), maybe wait two months and see how the election goes first? At least the Jan 6 crowd had that part figured out.
Harris and Biden have made statements. Who’s waiting?
After the last school shooting, JD Vance called the shootings a "fact of life." So Trump, buddy, zig zag as you play your next round of golf, what happens next to you might be a fact of life.
I suspect he meant everyday folks, randoms on social media etc. It's a given that the sitting president and the only other major party POTUS candidate would both want to immediately denounce the **** out of this. And I guarantee they both really mean it too.
trump's like catnip for lunatics. He's drawn out all the nuts.
There must be something to that whole reap the whirlwind thing.
you literally made a joke about this in the other thread. am I being trolled right now?
Unclear why ppl ITT said that the attempted assassination was perpetrated by a MAGA fanatic
This is one tweet this year by the suspect
He was interviewed in 2023 by the NYT for his efforts at trying to find volunteers willing to fight in Ukraine.
Whole twitter thread with receipts here
Who knows if any shooting even happened. I don’t trust anything coming from the deep state secret service. This is probably a fake profile they’ve been using in case of a false flag incident like this. How convenient of a narrative.
Jk I’m not maga I don’t just make random crap up to fulfill my narrative
ya a quick google searches told me he is super pro Ukraine and anti trump and he had that tweet recently
Who could have guessed that claims about democracy being at risk if Trump wins could have fomented violence against Trump
Trump attempted to overturn the results of the last election. Claiming he's a threat to democracy is an objective fact. If there are nutjobs who think violence is a way to handle domestic threats against Democracy then the problem is with those nutjobs, not with the people stating objective facts.
Who could have guessed that this would be your reaction?
I love this idea that assassination attempts against Trump could only be a product of Democratic rhetoric. It really holds up to scrutiny.
When you constantly refer to the candidate as Hitler and that we will lose democracy it can lead to actions like this . If this had been an attempt on Joe or Kamala MSNBC and CNN would be blaming Trumps rhetoric
Hm not only no, i didn't write the same for the previous attempt, in that case it appeared the guy wanted to make "history" and he searched for other names as well before landing with Trump because he was going to have a rally close to where the guy lived.
In this case though the guy was radicalized by DNC propaganda as it looks clearly from his ample social media content production
Sounds like the guy might be one of those rabid maskers too.
The idea that the attempt was illegal is still TBD, that isn't an objective fact, which is why proceedings are ongoing (and just restarted recently) and he isn't in jail (yet?).
Can't claim someone is a criminal until a court says so in general.
And can't claim that claiming someone is guilty of an exceptionally serious crime, before you have a court confirming that, has no consequences in society.
I didn't claim he was a criminal. I claimed he attempted to overturn the results of an election. He's been indicted for doing so. In the US justice system, suspects who indicted of crimes are considered threats to society, and many times detained until their trials because of it.
And btw trump is a convicted criminal.
doesnt seem there is a single mainstream liberal talking point that this guy doesnt fervently support. weird.
Legally attempting to overturn the results of an election is not a threat to democracy. Asking for a recount for example is not a threat to democracy.
I don't know or care what MSNBC would do in your hypothetical. I have watched a grand total of ten minutes of MSNBC in the last twenty years.
My point is simple. You have to be insane to hold these two beliefs in your head at the same time: (i) violence on January 6 cannot be blamed on Trump's entirely false claims that the election was rigged or on his attempts to stay in office despite losing the election; and (ii) violence directed at Trump should be blamed on entirely true statements by Democrats that Trump tried to defy the results of an election and has no respect for democratic norms.
