2024 Fantasy Football Thread

Welcome to the 2024 fantasy season, where I'm officially addicted to best ball. I've been drafting since the end of January. Through 95 drafts, my exposures are below. The player order is based on current ADP. Some of these ADPs have been quite fluid over the last 3 months, with FAs and rookies moving the most. Most of my exposures are structurally driven, rather than player take driven. Especially at this point in the game, pre-draft.

But there are some players I simply couldn't avoid going heavy on, like McBride and Andrews in the 5th round. I'm actually quite heavy all of the top TEs, minus LaPorta and Kincaid. I also tried to make sure I had at least 1 TE by the end of round 8, with Ferguson being the last of the group.

Also took approaches like attacking Nabers and Odunze harder than MHJ, at their relative prices.

What do we like and not like?

Rookie season is also upon us. Redraft is still 3.5 months away from heating up, but there will be rookie drafts, dynasty startups, and best ball drafts leading up until then.

Good luck to all, and may injuries and variance be kind.

I'm literally physically ill that I took Pittman over Nico. I knew better, I know Pittman is nothing special.
I blame all the best ball bros in here subliminally pounding my brain with "stacking".
At least in my auction league I paid what I needed to to get him after seeing the error in my ways.

12 team PPR probably need an upgrade at QB. Have Goff & Lawrence, anybody here an upgrade ROS?

Carr
Geno
Darnold

Also thoughts on Zeke? Yes he is RB31 currently but we all know he sucks and with my team he likely never sees the lineup. Thinking of dropping him for a claim on Braelon Allen

Have:
Hall, Dobbins, Moss, Zeke, Javonte/Mclaughlin, Corum

Stacking has minimal impact in managed. I don’t think anyone would’ve recommended that decision (Pittman over Nico at the same cost) even with stacking. I had Nico ranked 2 full rds ahead of Pittman

It'll go down as one of my great blunders

I still haven’t gotten over taking JuJu instead of MT in 2019.

Feel like you can give Goff a little more time but can throw TLaw back on the scrap heap. Kind of a dart throw each week with those 3 on the wire. Coin flip between Carr and Geno for me. Maybe give the edge to Geno for as long as Walker is out.

not sure any of those 3 are an upgrade on Goff or TLaw. Geno would be the one to come closest tho i'd believe

Carr and Kubiak certainly have a good thing going. but much like new hitters that start off hot in MLB have pitchers breaking down tape on them, once DCs start breaking down this early tape, things might start to taper off a bit for this scorching hot NOLA O

Oh man, that year of Juju. Many of people still have scars from that I'm sure.

I'm still hoping Pittman can turn it around :(

Don’t worry I had Nico and Achane as my favorite 2nd rd player and I only have about 8% of both of them in best ball, so I feel like I made huge blunders too

(I do have a decent amount of them in managed though)

If AR gets injured or benched Pittman will be more valuable (nowhere near Nico though).

Pittman is a volume based possession receiver with not a lot of high efficiency upside and unfortunately he’s playing in an offense with a qb that 1. Doesn’t support high volume passing 2. Doesn’t throw that well to the parts of the field Pittman wins in

At least the content creator hive mind mostly had that correct haha.

They did but they loved Terry Maclaurin. They love to chase what could be with Terry Maclaurin every year.

They called Terry the worst pick on the board, so not sure they loved him…at least many of them did

You have to realize that the "best ball bros" are getting their info from two or three different dudes who's aren't close to experts on football. They just happened to get lucky enough to win a big best ball tournament. It's like if you decided to get your poker advice from Chris Moneymaker.

If you listened to these guy's you got a bunch of Rico Dowdel, Chase Brown, Terry Mclaurin, Jaylen Warren(I fell for this one), Branden Aiyuk, Puka Nacua, Drake London, and Chris Olave. You did not get any Saquon Barkley and Alvin Kamara.

These content creators are good at talking about best ball theory. They are not good about player takes.

Early in the year they didn't like him. Later in the year he became a target because everyone became more bullish on Daniels.

I took a ton of Nico and Deebo all summer. Unfortunately, that limited my exposure to Achane. These three were easy second round picks. I mixed in some JT and Gibbs as well. I kept telling myself to get more Barkley but I never did. In hindsight he makes so much sense as a pick. Philly never pays a lot for an RB. He went from one of the worst offensive lines to one of the best. This was a really bad hive mind blunder.

I personally liked Terry, but that was my own take. Most of the content creators I watched were more focused on QBs/TEs or the Chiefs guys at the 4/5 turn than Terry. I still think Terry can have some big weeks, but it hasn't been what I hoped for. Kliff sticking him on the left side for all of his routes doesn't work, either, especially when motion and moving guys around the formation is what really hits for fantasy. I did have visions of Terry catching long balls from Jayden like Nabers and BTJ last year, so that even if he was inconsistent, he had some spike week potential. Hopefully that's still in the cards.

Player takes and theory mesh together. They're not going to be right about all of it. A lot of these guys are using math and underlying metrics when deciding how to play the market, based on cost. Best ball is still a market based game. It's also still only week 2. Those same guys touted Achane and Rice and Worthy and Breece and BRob and tons of other players who have had good starts to the season. They also told you to fade guys like Pacheco, Henry, Etienne, Pittman, etc. at cost.

Everyone has their own opinion and biases. I try my best to let the content creators do the heavy lifting of accumulating data and presenting it, then applying it to my own takes.

And even when your player takes are right, all it takes is one fluke ankle injury to ruin it.

Kerrane, Herzig, and Liam are much more than their BBM wins. A lot of other good creators out there too.

Not going to lie, I'm still a Terry truther. Think he's a good irl football player but his situations have been god awful his entire career. Problem now is if his situation ever gets better he's going to be the wrong side of 30 when it happens.

thanks! this all makes sense. I drafted him cuz my league is PPR, but I didn't realize that stuff about AR

i'll see what I can get for him in a trade

btw, I'm gonna win this week if hurts doesnt' get like 30 points tonight

Now Deebo is out a few weeks the injuries keep coming .

I thought RBs were the only ones supposed to get injured.

by tarheels2222 P

He’s been taking handoffs the last few games!

Lmao. I stand corrected.

Was just thinking could be a good time to buy low'ish on Aiyuk in redraft. That window sure closed fast.

Pacheco
Keenan Allen
AJB
Deebo
Caleb Williams

Rough start to a dynasty league team I thought would be a contender. Luckily I got the W last week. Maybe Braelon Allen, Bucky Irving, Iosivas, and Nailor can be real things???
