Ukraine-Russia War Take 2
Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:
The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.
When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.
It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.
But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.
If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.
Thanks.

No, I'm referring to the Russia collapse, civil war, or balkanization talk. Nobody thinks this will happen to Russia once Putin is gone (no matter what his ultimate fate is, although removal by the west is not for serious discussion) except internet posters.
its not about breaking up or balkanizing Russia. they just want to install comprador leaders and steal all the resources. this is how the West and the USA operate and have for centuries.
I wasn't aware of this. I thought I read Graham mention that Putin suffering an unexpected fate could result in some drastic scenarios. Putin is essentially a monarch now, and anytime a monarch's reign ends there at least some chance of a power vacuum. I'm pretty sure no matter how bad his successor is, the entire world will be relieved when the role has been passed on, at least until that person's grip on power starts to get questionable too.
I believe his thesis is that there may be a period of instability in the event of a military defeat since it would almost certainly mean the end of Putin's reign. But even in such a scenario, Russia is not at threat of collapse; it doesn't make political, economic, or geographic sense. His recent work "Getting Russia Right" is a good read on history of US-Russia relations and his insight on Russia's future.
I read, it was good. I recall him saying it's in USA's best interests to help Ukraine and hurt Russia, but crippling Russia to the point that it could collapse is against USA, and the world's, interests. I thought he meant that a Russian collapse is possible, but no one wants that so they are in a war where they are hoping to hurt Russia as much as possible without causing its collapse. At least that was how I read it.
I think Biden's approach heightens that possibility. The worst thing for Russia is to have this drawn out for a long time, if Biden had just given Ukraine everything they needed from the start then the war could have been shorter as Russia would not believe they were actually making progress and continue to fire their economic future into Ukraine.
BREAKING NEWS: North Korea is preparing to deploy armed forces to Ukraine in support of Russia, South Korea's defense chief says.
I've been telling you'll for 3 years Kim jong-un is part of the alliance with Russia, President Trump, President Balsonaro, Musk, and all of our Patriot Generals (not the woke DS TV generals who mostly have all been dealt with) against a global empire. IYKYK. Don't be nervous about it, this is a good thing. This is the good ridding the planet of the evil.
The only worry should be if Ukraine has enough bullets for the vaunted NK soldiers.
Will Trump send his own troops to the frontline to help also?
well if they send any real number its gg
Alright this just crossed over into genius performance art. Bravo. 👏
Ukraine claims to have destroyed North Korean munitions at an arms dump, and also to have killed six North Korean officers in a separate strike.
How Putin's war in Ukraine has pushed millions into homelessness:
A fifth of people displaced from conflict in Ukraine are ending up sleeping rough on the streets, new analysis from homelessness charity Depaul has found
Ukrainians fleeing the frontline of the war in their country following Russia’s full-scale invasion are increasingly ending up living on the streets, a homelessness charity has warned.
Depaul International’s assessment of the state of homelessness in the country two-and-a-half years after Putin’s forces invaded found 22% of those sleeping rough became homeless as a direct result of being displaced during the conflict.
Around 3.5 million people in Ukraine have been forced to leave their homes while two million people have had their homes destroyed or damaged.
Two years into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, civilians living in the frontline city of Kherson are grappling with the new threat from small civilian drones adapted to carry explosives.
On social media, Russian soldiers openly boast that their objective is anyone or anything that moves. Since the drones began swarming the city in July, there have been thousands of attacks each month, killing 24 civilians and injuring hundreds more.
“The hunt has started,” urged one Telegram post above a satellite image of an ordinary van. “Any black minivan must be destroyed no matter where are they going.”
They have dropped grenades on buses and people waiting at bus stops, civilians on bikes and queueing for humanitarian aid, or, like Ustenko, just walking home with shopping.
Video shows drone following two people in Kherson before dropping grenade – video
One video, shared by a drone operator, follows two people ambling down a quiet Kherson street oblivious to the drone overhead until it drops a grenade that cuts both down, leaving them writhing on the ground in agony.
The repurposed Mavic drones, made in China for photography and videos, are controlled on radio frequencies that Ukraine’s anti-drone systems cannot block, and are too small, too numerous and fly too low for traditional air defences to pick up.
In August there were more than 2,500 attacks, or dozens each day, the vast majority of them inside Kherson city, said Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, a spokesperson for the Kherson military administration. In September there were more than 2,700.
Nightmarish stuff is beginning.
No one will camp in front of a school for it, mind you.
wonder where they got such an idea from...
I hope it's not me because my ideas on where this tech is fast heading are horrific
this aint fun either
North Korea has started sending troops to fight with Russia in Ukraine, South Korea's spy agency has said as Seoul warned of a "grave security threat".
The allegation comes a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he believed 10,000 North Korean soldiers could join the war, based on intelligence information.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol called for a security meeting on Friday and said the international community must respond with "all available means".
According to the spy agency, 1,500 troops have already arrived in Russia - with anonymous sources telling South Korean media the final figure could be closer to 12,000.
all the horrific stuff from the Gaza war is being replicated. and lots of people think it will eventually be used against internal dissidents and just policing in general.
I am pretty skeptical of the NK story on its surface. does Russia need troops? maybe they are just observing or training.
It hard to know but it's seems very plausible to me that the enemies of the western alliances are moving closer together. It's got a terrible name CRICK which stands for China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.
Needs an E and a T.
On the horrific stuff - I was more referring to how the tech is in it's infancy and growing up fast. I dont doubt the tech will be used.
Txs. That makes more sense but now it's more not cricket.
I'm watching telegram videos of NK troops already in action. Am I being AI'd, or is this legit?
The stock market is acting like I'm being AI'd.
The North Koreans are apparently training in Russia and receiving Russian uniforms, but are not expected at the front till next month.
Russia does have quite a well publicised recruiting problem, with the prisons being scoured for 'volunteers'.
How depressing it must be to be a Russian, especially an educated one, knowing your nation is drifting further and further away from the liberal world, and closer and closer to actors like DPRK and IRI.
