Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
every day there are more atrocities
Hospitals and schools are always the IDF's first target, why would you ever hide war materiel and gold bars under one? The lies just don't even make basic sense any more.
criminal lying regime puts out hits on journalists
Victor doesn’t want you to know that many of the stories he has been putting out there may have been sourced directly from Hamas operatives moonlighting as journalists. Or is it journalists moonlighting as Hamas operatives?
first of all, I have no problem citing Hamas. they are much more honest than the Western press.
second of all, Israel is lying like always.
third of all, even if these guys are Hamas that doesnt give USA and Israel the right to murder them (and their families and neighbors).
They allegedly are using one of the most famous non-Israeli Middle Eastern publications to potentially spread blood libel about Israel, which is then repeated by Western Media, and you have no problem with that? You realize that if a portion of the people that are being reported as teachers, doctors, and journalists are secretly military or command members of Hamas (not merely political operatives) then this would cast doubt on many of the reports you rely on, right? We’re talking about SECRETLY, not openly. You relying on certain Hamas sources that are openly Hamas is not the same as Hamas operatives lying about their militant status by spreading propaganda to the West.
And given I come here and you start talking about Israel “putting a hit on journalists” I’m sure you do realize the significance of what’s going on here.
Remember that video of a small child lying prostate after being droned, and a group rushed to his help only to find themselves also targetted by the IDF?
And the usual suspects here pooh-poohed it as fake news?
Well
why not just post the article? why is it always a random twitter post with you guys?
literally the first thing I googled and it came up
yesterday I did post the Wapo article on the same subject and even linked the archive to get around the block.
If you were a Gazan leader, what would your play be at this point?
Seems bad and should be investigated. Separately from that, I do wonder though:
Earlier this month, the IDF ordered the evacuation of Jabaliya and surrounding towns in northern Gaza where several hundred thousand Palestinians are believed to still reside. The IDF has been operating to prevent Hamas from regrouping in northern Gaza.
Why are people refusing to leave areas where they have been ordered to evacuate in order for Israel to fight Hamas? Is this an intentional strategy?
Maybe they suspect that the Israelis will immediately bomb the areas they evacuate to, on the basis that that's where Hamas will go. Because frankly the Israelis have been known to do that.
Well, I guess that any army that operates in civilian areas exclusively is really smart. After all, if you operate in civilian areas no one will ever hold you accountable and people will be mad at the invading army that they had the gall to try to defeat you militarily. No army should ever attempt to differentiate itself from its civilian population.
This is a great idea actually. The IDF should just start launching drone strikes out of schools.
Genociding the civilian population is smart.
Scream and spead my body parts about
As someone who served four Israeli prime ministers and was deputy head of the country’s National Security Council, Eran Etzion’s judgement was trusted at the highest levels of the state.
A longstanding critic of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he is also someone whose years of public service earned him widespread respect.
But now Mr Etzion, a former soldier himself, is warning that Israel’s military - the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) - might be committing war crimes in northern Gaza. And he is suggesting that officers and troops should reject illegal orders.
“They should refuse. If a soldier or an officer is expected to commit something that might be suspected as a war crime, they must refuse. That's what I would do if I were a soldier. That's what I think any Israeli soldier should do,” he tells me.
Maybe the compliant soldiers will shoot the refuseniks and claim they were hiding terrorists.
Sounds like a better strategy than the one they've been pursuing.
They might well do that, but evacuating still seems safer than staying put in an area they said to evacuate.
Better to get bombed in your home than in a refugee tent.
existence is resistance
Ok, if you intentionally stay in order to protect Hamas by acting as a human shield, you are arguably losing your protected status. Intentionally entering into a combat role without weapons seems like a bad idea. Hiding weapons and ammo for Hamas in civilian areas seems like a bad idea. In general staying in a place where Hamas is active in order to be killed instead of a Hamas operative seems like a bad idea.
But sure let’s justify these things with some cute slogans basically asking citizens to martyr themselves.
Give credit where it is due, this is a pretty good troll. But the fact Palestinian's in Gaza even have carte blanche to troll the IDF like this indicates that most of the pro Islamist hyperbole of the campaign is not very accurate.
FWIW, Hamas has spent the last year actively prohibiting Palestinians from leaving active battle areas. And as Hamas has been weakened and lost control, Palestinians with their feet are showing most of them dont actually want to be Hamas human shields.
Reason #10,000 why the rest of the world should not be doing everything in their power to help Hamas re-assert control over Gaza, as they are.
