I regularly play a low buy-in nightly tournament in a local casino.
Some typical aspects of play:
Limping: There is lots of it
3betting: rare and typically AQ+, TT+ but for some players it's exclusively AK, QQ+
Once people have VPIP'd they don't like to fold. So limpers will often call iso's and openers will typically call 3bets
People don't seem to be positionally aware
Post flop people tend to be sticky if they flop any kind of equity regardless of the context (probably because they are only considering their own hand)
It is a lot easier to realise your equity post flop than in online games, since many villains will not attack obviously weak lines.
A few questions I have:
1. If there are several limpers and I am on the SB, how wide should I complete, given that 90% of the time the BB will check as well?
2. Say I'm in middle position and I have 2 limpers in front of me should I have a limp range and what should it consist of?
3. In that same scenario should my iso range be the same as the GTO opening range from that position or should it be significantly tighter than that?
4. If there is a raiser and several callers, how wide do I want to be calling in the BB
5. If I am first to act in early position should I have an open limp range and if so what should be in it?
These are the answers to those questions that I have typically been using up until now but I really am not sure if they are optimal:
1. I don't complete in the SB unless I have a hand with some potential such as AXs, Kxs, suited connecters, suited one-gappers or low pocket pairs
2. I would over-limp with a similar range to what I would complete with in the SB )see above)
3. I have been iso-raising tighter than GTO opening ranges due to the stickiness of the limpers
4. I haven't been calling widely from the BB multi-way as I don't want to be out of position post-flop with medium strength hands.
Nightly tournament in the local casino. 47 entries (including re-buys).
Fifth pays €150, first pays €600 and it's relatively even jumps for the positions in between.
Final table has really dragged on but eventually we reach the bubble with 6 remaining. We then proceed, over the course of another hour to have about 7 all-ins in a row where the small stack wins.
The upshot of this is that the blinds are now 15k/30k with a 30k BB ante and the ave
A few nights ago I played a tournament where only 3 places paid. A the final table we ended up in an unusual scenario where, with all 9 players remaining, the average stack was 11bb and the blinds were increasing every 20 minutes so it was playing more and more like a hyper turbo.
It folds to me in the small blind. Big blind is a regular who is a very loose passive player generally. He limps a lot and probably has a VPIP north of 60%. He arr
Long time hold'em player. I started playing PLO 1c2c 6max Zoom on Pokerstars a few days ago. I quickly lost 7 buy-ins by over-valuing all of my hands, drawing to none-nut hands....standard beginner stuff I'd imagine. I've managed to claw that back by being far more selective about my starting hands and nut peddling post-flop. Now that I have a few thousand hands under my belt I have some questions:
1. In hold'em it is standard now to open smaller in early position and bigger in later postion. Does the same apply to PLO? I have been opening for 2bb in UTG, 2.5bb in HJ, 3bb in CO and 3.5 in BTN
2. Should I be flatting a lot in the blinds or 3betting a lot. Bear in mind that nobody seems to fold to 3bets in PLO2. Previously I was 3betting a bit but now I mostly just flat to see how much equity I flop before deciding whether to invest more money or not.
3. I have noticed that for a lot of my opponents their 4bet ranges is exclusively AAxx. With that in mind, if I 3bet a hand like QJT9 double suited and get 4-bet should I flat (with the intention of folding if I completely whiff) or shove?
4. Is a monotone hand ever playable or should I be folding them without a second thought?
Small field tournament. 41 entries. 4 get paid. We're down to roughly 14 people.
Hero is in SB with a 55k stack (about average) blinds are 500/1000 with a 1000 BB ante.
Whale UTG (32k) limps. He's played most hands. Doesn't really seem to be following any kind of strategy. Has shown up with all sorts of muck played in odd ways.
Folds to HJ who's short stacked and shoves for his last 5k
Villain in this hand is extremely loose and passive pre-flop. They've open limped and flatted raises many times and seem to be playing most hands. I don't recall them having raised or 3betted prior to this hand. They've ran their starting stack of 20k down to roughly 10k by paying off with a few second best hands.
Still in the early stages of the tournament
Hero is in CO with a 21k stack blinds are 100/200 with a 200 ante.
Got back into playing poker last year after years away from it. I play mostly online. 6max Zoom Cash games on Pokerstars. Currently a winning player at 10nl there.
There's a local casino in my city. I have played the cash games (€1/€2) there and found them extremely soft. The problem is that they don't really get going until late at night which doesn't really suit me. There is a €50 tournament that starts in the early evening though. It usua
