Dealers and The Wynn Poker Room

I've been playing some poker at the Wynn Poker Room in Las Vegas. By far, it has the best dealers I've ever seen, and the reason is that there is no extraneous talking when they're dealing. The hands are efficiently dealt and are error free far more than any other poker room that I know of.

I think some of the other poker room managers around town (and elsewhere) should spend some time in The Wynn Poker Room to see how it's done. And I consi

J Little Book Question

I've been reading the new J Little book 100 Essential Tips to Master No-Limit Hold'em. In Chapter 52 he has an example hand which I found quite interesting. Of course, the aspect of the hand that I found so interesting, Little doesn't even mention and seems to be completely unaware of. But I thought it would make an interesting thread.

The hand is as follows:40 bbs deep the button raises (probably to 2bb) and only the big blind calls. The fl

Question

I've been reading a couple of no-limit books and have a question concerning solver output which should be very easy to answer.

What happens is I'll read something like the solver has chosen to make a 3 big blind bet. Is that because the solver is given one or more possible bet sizes and of those given bet sizes this is the one it determines to be best or is it because out of the world of all possible bet sizes (which would be 1 big blind up

Polling

Hi Everyone:

Years ago, I worked in Statistical Methods Division of The United States Census Bureau doing survey design. I still have my finite sampling theory books. And for those who don't know, designing statistical surveys and polling are the same thing.

Today, there are a lot of questions about whether the polls are any good, and if some are good, which ones are those? Now, that's a question I can't answer since I don't know their method

The Four Psychological States of Losing Poker

The Four Psychological States of Losing Poker

by Mason Malmuth

It turns out that in most public poker rooms there are a large number of poker players who know how to play reasonably well. Yet, many of them have long term results that are negative. This seems to almost be a contradiction. If you play poker at least reasonably well, shouldn’t your long-term results be on the plus side?

At first, the answer seems to be yes. But there is an assump

Time for Another Look -- More Rake is Better?

Hi everyone:

With the website https://morerakeisbetter.com/ and now the billboard, perhaps it's time to take another look at the proposals I made on 09-14-2016:

1. Limit multi-tabling.

2. End most of the bonuses for playing lots of hands.

3. At the smallest stakes, leave the rake the same.

4. At the next tier, but still small stakes, raise the rake.

5. At the next tier and all higher games (except perhaps the biggest games), lower the rake signi

Requested Book Reviews

Hi Everyone:

In my book Gambling Theory and Other Topics there are a bunch of book reviews. However, this book was last updated in 2004 and I've written a bunch of reviews over the years since that last update that appeared in the Two Plus Two Online Poker Strategy Magazine. Also, there have been some requests to get these reviews published again so I'm getting them together and will repost them in this thread.

A couple of points. When I revi
