Complete Turnover

Hi!

I visited H&F before but didn't feel it concerned me. Now that has changed. Trying to pop up what's left of my life. Some background: I quit nicotine in 1992. After that some attempts in leading a healthier life, regularly irregular. Got a gym card maybe ten years ago, sometimes didn't go there for a couple of years. I once dropped 10 lbs in one month counting calories for real, wasn't sustainable.

Now there seems to be things happening on a more prolonged, hopefully permanent basis. I left the car at home 1.5 years ago when going to work, for getting at least some exercise. Then I quit alcohol half a year ago. I did a health survey and found my blood pressure was a bit high. Decided to drop 20 lbs, have now been on vegetables and VLCD-drinks for a month. Got a small chock when checking the blood pressure, it had gone down to normal, must mainly be the smaller salt content? That was a huge unexpected bonus!

So there's 15 lbs left to drop, the reason is mainly the waistline. All this is very well, but now I've decided to go to the gym every day for one hour. I will regulate what I do there, for not getting overloaded. Mainly hoping the exercise will do some good for my psyche, I have a tendency for pondering things and getting tired. I chose one hour a day, because that's a substantial investment and practically what I can come up with.

Hi there!

Somehow lost it, apparently the time before retirement was particularly stressful, didn't stand on the scale for a loong time. 14 may 2023 was the last time, 85.4kg.

.

So how old are you?

So how old are you?

61, retired early. Planned for it three years beforehand. Feel it was the right decision.

86.4, finally! Have stepped up a notch, even played with the thought of trying to cut 2kg a week, probably not gonna happen, so in for that 1kg/week. As this is the (long) spurt down to 80, I put in what my body and mind reasonably can take.

85.9. About where I were in may when starting to gain on average one kg a month until december. Wonder how that gain was distributed between months, will remain guesswork. Probably like 0.5-1.5.

85.5. Definitely showing in the belly profile now. I don't snap see I'm overweight, takes a few seconds to notice some more is needed. Five kilograms to go, will not necessarily be the easiest ones. Body fights back, but as long as the snacks are carrots, well...

Took some time, but finally, 85.1. As usual a few things may explain it took three weeks, but of course the most important, as always, is eating "too much". Interesting to follow how tough the final 5 will feel. 0.5kg/week looks to be the general pace this time, then you even can eat some.

84.7. Yeah, this is how the body works, sometimes loses a bit more at a time.

84.5. Using a different scale, but it's electronic and of the same brand, so should be ok.

Nice work. I am currently 57y and 176lbs or 80kg .. goal is 71kg.
Will be watching your progress!

Thanks, good luck to you too! Good pace I think is around 0.5kg a week, feels more comfortable and probably more sustainable than my earlier 1kg/week.

84.3. Have been moving a bit more, always helps. Now not very far from that eluding twice 80.0 or below.

84.2. A hundred grams is a hundred grams.

Started to get oscillating and values a bit too good to be true, moved the scale away from the rug, and got 85.0. Let's see if I can drop five kilograms during summer.

84.2. Should be reliable this time.

Have wandered higher, even close to 86, but down to 84.2 yet again. As said, usually the second one is more reliable, so why not the third. Not gaining weight is of course the most important, a new low now and then takes care of that the best.

Fluke all right, 84.2 for the fourth time. They seem to run a bit closer now.

Think I need to post at least once a month. Have stabilized around 85 kilograms, may lack real motivation to take it lower. So let's see. Weighing myself almost daily.

Somehow I'm in the mood to take the attempt on 80kg, feels even nice to eat less for now. Only possible lows will tell if the feeling transforms to action.

After a week's trip without a scale I found my weight to be 86.5. After that a quite ideal series of 86.3, 86.0 and 85.9. Shows even keeping weight is almost as losing weight.

Found a culprit. Doing some physical work and had treated myself each day with half a small candy bag "for glucose". But the old truth you'd better avoid bigger calorie density holds, weight wandering up. So I cut out those 400 extra calories, felt a bit tired the first day, fixed it with a nap. And the weight thanks, 86.0 again.

Kind of starting over, but from an overall lower level, will tell new record lows.

85.6. Technique is paying off.

85.4. Add 1/2-1 kilograms to get the mean. Thinking about loosening up my goal for now, have got some beating from this. Maybe below 85kg every single time? Then my mean would be somewhere between 83 and 84. BMI 23-24, with some middle body. Ok, going below 85 even once for a starter.

85.3
