SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

Can just take off the M and continue as I'm sure you woulda gotten it w d1s m6 as a legal clue this turn?

What is m6

I mean if you had clued m8 mackerel eggs then we woulda gotten it the same as fish eggs

or halibut eggs

any type of fish starting with i/h/m really

M6 was marlin.

The problem with going fish instead of eggs was that if you didn't get there from that then we don't really have anywhere to go from there. There are heaps of fish we could clue, but there isn't really a substitute for eggs that we could use.

Only reason I thought you'd be able to deduce it is because if you were thinking of f4 animals, then fish seemed like the obvious one, but it's the only one you didn't mention lol. Also thought just saying e4 instead of e3/4 was a clue but oh well.

Just take the M card off the board and move on imo...you would've got it.

Ah marlin

Yeah, if I hadn’t forgotten about caviar before posting then we may have realized your m6 would be some sort of fish

Given you woulda done marlin which is equivalent to fish we can just use that card this turn and keep moving

And yeah, if we didn’t figure out eggs from fish then no other word really to get us onto caviar so makes sense to clue eggs…just sucks that eggs hit so much and tons of f4 to go with eggs and lots of m6 as well

Round 4:

Cards used: 4
Guessers: ibd/d1

The Board:

IH | P | B | IH | JOVW | RG | A

The target word:
Sent to ervin/bolt/zeus

a5 and i5 come to mind, but aren't amazing

we don't seem to have the right letters for the easy lock binks

p5 is very strong; p3 decent also

there are a few that could be shadowfaxes

OH, well we could go a different route and do a10; I think they could get the word from there

G6 is a lock - id go that route but p3 is niice.

I dont know a10

A6?

g6 may be a shadowfax; depending on what your g6 is, I don't think I would have known it

p3 is good also; a10 narrows to a few things and then they can deduce p3 prolly, but maybe just p3 is good and we can follow with a10 or something else if they miss

p9 ok maybe as a confirmer

Must be a europe thing then but im SURE itll be known

D1 will know it i think. Australia-uk have similar linguistic twangs

Oh **** i5 might be a lock???

oh well G is a card in so can't clue it first anyway lol

yeah i5 and a5 came to mind first; I don't think it's a lock tho, but it's definitely in the realm

I think any 2 of these gets it for sure so really we just gotta figure out best 1 clue bink or which are easiest to figure out for confirmer

Yh im all i5 now i dont think it hits anything else

i5 clue

then 2 p3 confimers that should be easy to figure out

I'm ok with that; if they somehow miss then a10 will 100% get it once you have i5 or any other word in this domain

let's see what bolt and ervin come up with tho

hold on are we thinking of the same i5?

because there's an i3/i5 that is just...😀

i5 is i3/i5; but i3 is not nearly as good due to ambiguity

i5 is also like i4 but also that's not as good

yea i3 is obv garbage but i5 seems slam dunky

maybe a couple confirmers but seems like they'll just...get it lol

Yeah i5 with two p3 confirmers that are easy to figure out should work just fine

I5 works.

icing

Gotta be cake?

P3 = pan/pie?
P5 = patty

I can't think of the others, but cake is really the only thing I associate icing with and this is supposed to be a lock so...

Yeah, should be cake. DZ’s g6 is almost certainly gateau.
