SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

Ok Lsts co it

podium

Well done!

I assume birch was to let you know it’s a wooden pulpit object and not something like speaker

We woulda mentioned p3 or a5 for pew/altar if it were church related to get you in the domain

This round was a good reminder of how hard the game gets when someone mentions the same letter and number as the target word

Even when they do think of podium, they’ll assume it’s what we were thinking for p6 so won’t guess it

Winner/victor/olympics with rostrum was indeed my middle card desire

My a clue woulda been also-ran’s opposite to left of pulpit to be same as winner’s pulpit

Wow, nice.

And yeah, cluing the same letter/number is always confusing but I prolly should've thought about it a bit more.

I still don't get birch at all. Bronze would've been way more clear imo.

Oh yeah, bronze woulda been nice; I was missing m for medalists but bronze woulda been a good stand-in

You CRUSHED my confirmer p’s, D1iab - great stuff

I think if it was speaker we woulda got amp as the clue, so I'm totally off that.

I'm kinda liking lecture some. That or speech are our best options imo. My worry is that they all seemed to know exactly what p6 was, so seems like it should be something more church-related. It's also possible they had a different p6 in mind tho (podium?)

I was hopeful the last statement here would trigger a question why we didn’t talk about multiple P6s and a suggestion that maybe it was podium all along!

It should have. I think I just got too caught up in the speech/lecture thing that I was sorta blinded to it. If I had thought of rostrum earlier then I'm sure we woulda got there sooner, but oh well. And I see now that a4 must be ambo, which I've never heard of (except for paramedics).

Yea great job, that was exactly the a4 and I didn't know it

You nailed all of the present/presenter/presentation stuff

Round 6:

Cards used: 7
Guessers: zeus/ervin

The Board:

IH | A | JOVW | M | EF |RG | A

The target word:
Sent to d1/bolt/ibd

i7 may be better than the obvious i6/i9 and h10 because it avoids [redacted] better

maybe g5 but meh

I think with all the info in that post, any one of those clues would work. I actually think i7 is the worst of them but I doubt it matters much.

Dunno what g5 is, but we obviously aren't gonna use that side of the board anyway.

I think i8 is the best of all, especially given all the i confirmers Nich listed

i8 does seem best

Winner/victor/olympics

This was the podium I was cluing for.

This was to redirect you to an object that's made of wood and not something like a speech or a speaker. Good job you guys.

I8 is my choice as well

injector

First thought was syringe, needle could also potentially work

Ooo

I think if we get h10 we work it out?
If it was syringe what is h10?
Same with needle?

If needle hairpin is good?

But yh inject & injection were the options

We gotta work out h10

I dont think its a doctor/nurse etc. - we'd have had hospital or healthcare at least mentioned

Not mentioning heroin leans me against needle tbh

Yea I can't believe I'm saying this sentence but the lack of heroin does make this confusing lol

Maybe we can think of other injecty things? Vaccine, medicine, maybe something for food?

A pippette!

The absence of hospital makes me worry about medicine.

so i6 is inject, i9 is injection

could be some kinda dye or maybe hair coloring? would really like to figure out the h10

maybe it's something like healthcare?

they didn't talk much so maybe it is just syringe or needle and we're overthinking it
