SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

we're in a bit of a pickle

I don't know that we get out of it until we get to middle cards and we are coming from the wrong side

Current Board:

B | IH | A | JOVW | RG | A

BOOM

a8 opposite works just as well; put to the left of pulpit and they should get it

An opposite A8 isn't coming to me. But I'm still liking B5.

I don't know what b5, a3, b10 are

opposite a8/a9/a10 to the left of pulpit should get it almost every time I think, getting us out of this pickle

but if you are confident in your b5 then we can do that first and leave mine as backup

I'm not sure what it is but you sound sure haha so I'm good with it

I think opposite a10 is 90% to get it; would have been 100% sure on it usually

but i'm curious on B5 so I'm down to try that first if it has a good chance to get it

How close were we

% are hard to give because don't know how the guessers will take it

B5 is same category as A3 if that helps.

doesn't help because I don't know what a3 is either

birch

Lol

Imma need to be less drunk

Imma need to be more drunk

sounds like together ya'll are the right amount drunk

A3 must be ash, so essentially pulpit+tree = ???

I can't even think of a reasonable direction to go in tbh.

And I'm still not sure if we should be going for church stuff or not. If lecture was way off then I feel like we should be, but no idea what it could be.

Like pew would make some sense, but then you just clue bench, so it's def not that.

Birch is a tree
Or an old school word for a punishment-whip thing

Is this to the left of pulpit?

I wan a say lectern but thats never the clue right

If the answer was lectern we would've been told we were close instead of just keeping it a secret.

We weren't told 0% either tho, so we probably aren't tooootally out of the realm. Who knows tho.

I think I wanna guess stage. It's surely wrong, but church stuff is seeming like the wrong path to go down.

Pulpit+tree/wood is just not connecting with me at all.

Gah, I'm drawing a complete blank on this one.

Wanna just guess stage and move on, or you got any other ideas?

Maybe something like altar would be a better guess. Would be nice to know if it's something related to church or not.

Podium actually works pretty well from the first clue.

P7/9/12 = present/presenter/presentation
R7 = rostrum
P8 = pedestal

But I don't see what birch has to do with it or what an opposite a10 would be so I doubt it's that either.

And something like victory or winner could be the middle card nich was referring to. I'm actually liking podium a lot if we disregard this round completely lol.
