Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I don't think any of the countries in the region will allow hamas to retain power

It's a new mid east. The Israel saudi alliance vs the iran alliance. Hamas won't be welcome near the alliance

The plans being discussed by Saudi, U.S. and Israeli officials provide a framework for rebuilding Gaza with significant support from neighboring Arab countries; establishing moderate Palestinian leadership for Gaza; as well as ratifying a defense treaty between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia that will provide an alliance against their mutual foe Iran, according to people familiar with the talks. Saudi Arabia has insisted that any plan include a realistic pathway to a Palestinian state

ESTABLISHING MODERATE PALESTINIAN LEADERSHIP IN GAZA

Moderate leadership means not Hamas

that's part of the plan that SAUDI is proposing

That is what has to happen and what will happen in Gaza

Period

Putting Hamas in the government means making them far more moderate. It's also important to note the major rift between military and political Hamas. The latter probably didn't even know about Oct 7 prior to it. By not allowing the political Hamas into the government, the only way for Hamas (the most popular Palestinian entity) to be heard is through violence.

Ignoring a gigantic and extremely popular entity will not work, they will make themselves heard.

I think you are wrong

by Bluegrassplayer P

That's completely false.

you should specify

by Victor P

you should specify

It means what you said was completely wrong.

nah

I think a major problem with this thread is that people dont read the things that Israeli media and Israeli leaders are saying.

by metsandfinsfan P

They are afraid of booby traps and killing the hostages. But i still doubt the number is that low

Really, bc I thought this whole thing was "we going to dismantle their tunnels so they can't hide and attack ever again". But really it's turned into, we gonna bomb tf outta this place, journalists, doctors, kids, grannies, babies, heck, even our own hostages!

How many hostages has Israel even rescued?

Oh good another gimmick signed up in 2024 to hate Israel

You don't think the hostages are in the tunnels?

Oh I don't hate Israel my friend. If you truly believe hating civilian slaughter=hating Israel then you have some things to sort out.

supposedly they rescued one early in the conflict. theyve killed who knows how many. its almost like they benefit from dead hostages. esp after they killed 3 shirtless Hebrew speakers execution style.

Don't Call me your friend, gimmick

Do you hate all Palestinians or hamas?

Victor has been consistent in his opinions. Feel free to engage him and show which statements you believe are lies and why. Then other posters can participate as well. I suspect the end result will be no one on either side will change their mind and the discussion will fade out as people decide there is no point in continuing (a good result) or, out of new arguments they will result to personal attacks (bad result).

But the mods cannot play

we should note that he never expressed what was a lie nor why.

I will say that there is a chance people will change their minds. I have changed mine many times due to internet posts!

You know, Hamas did get elected into government and they basically said they weren’t interested in sharing power with Fatah and weren’t interested in negotiating with Israel.

You really think their benefactors in Tehran could prop Hamas up in any kind of power sharing agreement that doesn’t involve continued armed resistance against Israel? You really think Hamas is anything at all without Iranian support?

Hamas is a cancer fueled by Iranian money. It has no way of surviving as anything but cancer on the region. It must be excised.

Yep, fully aware. A major part of letting them back in would be that they acknowledge Israel's right to exist, when removes a lot of the most radical elements. Extremely difficult, but pretty much the only way there's any peace there imo.

I do not think that Hamas is completely reliant on Iran, although the military section is extremely reliant on them.

Israel clearly isn't capable of "excising" Hamas.

The saudi israel coalition is

At least we better hope so, or this war goes on forever

Israel is not agreeing to hamas being in power

I think you're misunderstanding what Saudi Arabia's role in this will be. Saudi Arabia is not going to have any troops in Gaza, they are going to tell Israel that if they want any type of negotiations they will need to pull out of Gaza. This means 0 Saudi Arabia troops and 0 IDF troops in Gaza. That means another entity must take over, and currently the only one who will even consider touching that is PA.

I think you are misunderstanding who actually wants the deal. You think saudi wants the deal to do Israel a favor?

They both need the deal. They both need a gaza without terrorists in power. That means no hamas.

I'm unsure which part of that, including the bolded, makes you think Saudi Arabia will be supplying troops to occupy Gaza.

The pa could be that entity but it will not be with no troops in gaza. At least not for some time
