SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

Ok does someone know c5?

c5 card placed directly to the left of aviary should get it

I can think of a c5. I'm not sure it's the one you're thinking of, or even if it's better than the t6.

Scrambled egg is what...like 40% or something? Idk

with the A clue, we unlocked P to discuss. p7

I'm not saying we should clue that and lose a card. but it's another clue for them

I don't think I know c5. I think I know c4, and I doubt you mean the plural of that for c5

The c5 I'm thinking of works well with aviary, but not sure that could've ever been a 1-ball. It's probably the same word tho.

Edit: that was to nich. It's not the same as the c4.

If you say c5 then 100% of people immediately think of what we need to go with aviary

T6 and p7 go for same target but not as direct as c5

But if nobody knows it I’m sure the others will work fine, just put them directly to the left of aviary

C4 is best after our first clue

Might need one more but itll total pit the clue giving

I could see going higher than 40% for scrambled egg but % are so hard to gauge or know how they’ll take them

Only a 1 ball bc of how we play this game and also because they may be able to deduce the other stuff we hinted at once they heard the word

But as 2 turn clue it’s perfect

Imo it hits 2 words equally as well.

Go c5 then

cluck

maybe c4 or c6 to them on the right path?

this may take 3 clues :(

by D1iabol1cal P

Yeah safe to assume this will take at least 2 turns.

Something like c4 into d4 could work.

by Doctor Zeus P

C4 is good
A6 ok if we wanna come in on the left but j think right hand side is better?

by Nicholasp27 P

There are 2 c4s, each going after different part

I think we go with the c4 that is like c6 if we wanna guarantee 100% in 3

But if people have a way to get there in 2 then that would be nice

Not yet sure what the d4 is

Actually c4+d3 isn’t bad going with the other c4 but I’m not sure they approach it the right way

L5 opposite

by Nicholasp27 P

Aha

A6 to t6 could work

by D1iabol1cal P

A6>t6 is basically an identical path to c4>d4. Either seems fine.

by Nicholasp27 P

C5->d3 is nice also lol

Lots of combos it seems

I think c5 could get it in one clue

by Nicholasp27 P

C5 hits super hard and pairs really nice with a6

I think that combo gets it basically every time

C5 based on how we play has 1 word equity but aviary could also

I don’t care much which we go as I’m figuring this for a 2 turn round so won’t be disappointed with 2

If you wanna go a6 before c5 that works for me

by Nicholasp27 P

Basically c5 only hits one exact word

If someone says c5 to you then you will always say this word next if doing word association

But a6 prolly still needed anyway so yeah let’s do that first

by filthyvermin P

with the A clue, we unlocked P to discuss. p7

This is feeling a lot like the unicorn answer we had last round. If this is chicken, then why all the confusion when "cluck" is right there to give us a one-ball? I don't want to over-think this and dig ourselves into a hole.

P7 could be poultry.

I'm not finding a T6 or a P4 right away if it is chicken. I also don't have a C4 or a C6 that's coming to mind right away. What else is there? D3. L5 opposite. Did I miss any?

C4 is coop?

C6 cutlet?

There's also a d4. Don't know what that is.

They didn't mention T5, which would have brought chicken home. Tikka (Masala).

C5 card is placed on the table directly to the left of aviary

Table:

Cluck Aviary

Well it's 99.999% either chicken coop or hen house. Maybe the other clues that I couldn't figure out will tilt the scale in the right direction.

I was thinking the C4 could be coop. Chicken seems like it has to be it as there is no mention of C7, and the C5 is for cluck and not chick.

I haven't been able to figure out the other ones either but it does seem to me like it's chicken something. Chicken by itself seems easy to get in 1 and don't think would have warranted all that pessimism.

So I'm thinking of what chicken stuff there is, coop like you mentioned, soup, noodle, tortilla, salad, wings, ummm...

An aviary is where they keep the birds.

Mmm I thought it could mean something birdlike

But chicken coop makes plenty of sense, and probably just some other random C4 word like chow

You wanna fire it?

chicken coop

Good job

One of the harder words in the list

Other options were Turkey and peacock and cock to go with cage or corral or aviary or den

But cluck and aviary seemed to be the two most direct words
