Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
antizionism is considered antisemitism in the sense of "any claim that a state of Israel in that area shouldn't exist is antisemitism"

Exactly. An ethnostate that defines certain residents as ineligible for citizenship is objectionable. The Jewish state is defined as being majority Jewish, so it's antisemitic to say that all residents of the realm should have citizenship.

by Bill Haywood P

Take this evidence with a big grain of salt because we don't know how they are defining an antisemitic incident. The ADL considers anti-Zionism as antisemitism and their poll probably does too. So calling for the West Bank Palestinians to have a vote for the government that controls them is pre-defined as antisemitism.

This would still result in Jewish students feeling less safe at a university.

by Victor P

why would you be dumb enough to believe or care what the ADL claims? do you have any familiarity with that organization?

Yes I am familiar with the organization.

Why would you be dumb enough to point at anecdotal evidence for this? It's pure rage bait. Your question "can you imagine if some nutjob shot 3 kids wearing yamulkes?" could just as easily be "can you imagine if a pro-Palestine professor murdered a Jewish pro-Israel protestor?"

by Victor P

did this happen? what are you referring to?

yes this happened: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/facu...

thats not murder

Feel free to replace "murder" with "killed".

by Bluegrassplayer P

But that feeling is delusional. They think opposition to a gross ethno state is opposition to their Jewishness. The Jews who have broken with the drug of Zionism, like Naomi Klein, feel fine on campus.

be precise

in this case, you are wrong but not lying. I am sure you would never do me such a courtesy and would probably spend the next 5 years whining about it I ever made such an incorrect statement.

How many Zionists do you think are not Jewish?

If you saw an increase in incidents towards a group that shares a 100% overlap with a group that you belong to, and those two groups are even confused quite often (as evidenced ITT), would you not be worried?

Was it delusional for Sikhs to be worried after 9-11 since they weren't Muslim?

You're deflecting from the argument using semantics. A common tactic when you realize you are wrong or have made a bad argument.

no you made a factually incorrect statement. its not semantics.

the guy is charged and not convicted with involuntary manslaughter and not murder. be precise.

You're still doing it.

like I cant believe I need to explain it to the guy who runs around saying "be precise" but there is a massive difference between involuntary manslaughter and murder.

Millions of Arabs are living peacefully in Israel as we speak. The Palestinians have stated Jews would not be allowed at all in a theoretical future Palestinian state. All the Palestinian allies pogromed their Jewish populations out in the last decade.

This is where you lose me. Every claim you make about Israel/Jews, the Palestinians are worse. Why should I support the side that sucks more?

by Bluegrassplayer P

most Zionists are not Jewish.

this was something I didnt understand at first. something I was wrong about.

Victor: pretend I was using your penchant for exaggeration and get on with it. I offered to use a more exact word.

You also do not understand what I mean when I tell you to be precise. It is not to get every word correct, it is to be clear with the intention of what you are saying and to not hide what you are arguing as you so often do.

I made it clear what I am arguing: you are using anecdotal evidence as rage bait. The exact terms of the rage bait used is not important, which is why I gladly agreed to change the exact wording. The wording has been fixed, it's as precise as it needs to be. Get on with addressing the argument now instead of whatever it is you think you're doing.

by Victor P

I'm not sure that is true, but it also doesn't matter for the point I was making. It's the perception that matters.

In the US I think a majority of people who identify as Zionists are Christians. I think a large percentage of evangelicals do and there are about 10 times as many evangelicals as Jews in the US.

ofc its anecdotal evidence and rage bait.

and the bullshit ADL post is rage bait too. but the side claiming to be in fear cannot find a single recent anecdote of being unsafe on a college campus or even in general in the USA. whereas Palestinians are getting shot, stabbed, fired, arrested, and spied on.

by Victor P

This is a problem. It's probably 90% of your posting now. You do not seek to engage in good faith discussion, you just want to post rage bait. This is not a good trait.

The ADL post is not rage bait. The ADL has a lot of anecdotes, they gathered them into statistics which are actually useful for this conversation.

the ADL conspired with South Africa to spy on anti-apartheid movements. they are a garbage organization and its bad faith to cite them in any way.

What is now the Arab world used to be one of the most diverse places in the world. Now it is mostly Arab Muslim religious ethnostates. Israel is by far the most diverse country in the Middle East, including millions of Arabs living peacefully within.

Remember, in Bill Haywood's world the little purple dot is the oppressors and colonizers, and the giant green area is the victims. To make the joke even more obscene, the green area actively threw out hundreds of thousands of Jews in the last 80 years.

It really does like Bill Haywood is doing a "Babylon Bee" bit sometimes.

Zionism is the idea of Jews going to Israel/Palestine (maybe Judea would be the most correct term). It doesn't have to mean driving anyone out or denying anyone else's rights, but leave that aside for a minute. What is it for a Christian American or European to be a Zionist? It's people who want to expel Jews, which is why people who wanted to get rid of Jews have supported Zionists in the past.

"Can't refute, ad hominem"

I think that supporting apartheid and spying on activists is pretty good refutation of the ADL

you need to read better

lol, if you lump all Muslims from Morocco to Sudan together, Muslim nations magically have zero ethnic diversity!
