ex-President Trump

ex-President Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:

a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?

b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?

For nearly three hours on Thursday, the Supreme Court weighed whether former presidents are immune from prosecution and what exactly it means if they are.

Its answer will determine whether former President Donald Trump can be tried on charges of trying to subvert the 2020 election.

Whatever the decision, each justice indicated that it would shape US democracy for years to come.

"We're writing a rule for the ages," Justice Neil Gorsuch said.

The case, heard in a special session one day after the court's last scheduled argument of this term, hinges on Mr Trump's claim that he is entitled to absolute immunity from criminal charges for actions committed while in office.

According to Mr Trump, this immunity shields him from criminal charges brought by US Special Counsel Jack Smith that he allegedly attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

That trial will remain on hold until the court issues its decision, expected in June.

The justices' pointed questions, levelled at both sides, indicated division within the bench, and suggested a split decision may be likely.

Biden supporters aren't the kind of people who show up at the rallies of other people to boo at them. What other possibilities are there? Did you really think that 25% of the population of the NYC area wasn't enough to fill the place where Trump was speaking?

They like to show up at Supreme Court Justices houses

I can't speak to your Italian friends, but it is rare to encounter a remotely reasonable person in the United States who talks about Trump Derangement Syndrome. I would say it is approximately as common as encountering a reasonable person who make frequent use of the term "libtard."

Your not telling me that MSNBC isn't suffering from TDS ?

yeah the network is running a fever and is taking ivermectin but it hasn't helped yet

When exactly was that, and how many showed up? Also, did they specify they were Biden supporters, or could they have just been opposed to dishonest and partisan SC justices, especially those accused of rape?

Ok and all the folks at Jan 6th were Biden supporters

Very silly and not answering any of my questions.

Your original comment was also silly and had nothing to do with my post.

However, I would not call the Jan 6 people Trump supporters, I would call the traitors conspiring to proper functioning of the government, as well as the will of the people to choose their president, as specified in the constitution.

What's next your going to deny that all the Hamas supporters at University campuses never voted for Biden

The problem is you're not a "normal person" like Luciom is. This is how "normal people" talk.

And this is what I'm really concerned about w/ people like Luciom. The marginalization of people who don't think, look, or act like them. This is how we get major fascist death cults about every 80 years in our history.

I'm concerned w/ how they demonize liberals, trans people, POC, immigrants, etc... It's only one smaller step mentally to justify w

nice projection here given excluding "wrong think" is exactly what technocratic liberals like yourself regularly do in universities for example.

the horrific way people on your side treated people who didn't want to vaccinate against a particularly nasty cold, including stripping them of basic human rights in many countries, is the closest we have come to fascism in the last 80 years in many countries.

and it happened almost entirely from the left in most places.

the way we get fascist death cults us by empowering the state too much, whatever the intentions. you literally can't get fascist death cult if the state doesn't have enough power to enforce fascism.

so, the only actual antifascism can exist in people who see the state as the core potential source of problem, and the only allies of fascist present and future are the people who want to increase the power of the state (again, regardless of intentions: it can be to "fix poverty" or "eliminate pollution" or any other reason you might agree with).

you don't get fascism by allowing people to discriminate in their own private lives as much as they want. that's btw not fascism at all.

fascism is the use of state violence, violating basic human rights, to pursue a purported common good (as defined by the fascists).

the only way to guarantee you can't get there is denying a common good can exist and be defined out of very narrow, basic, and agreed by everyone elements, and stopping using the state to achieve outcomes you desire no matter how much you desire them, against outside of that very narrow range everyone agrees about.

the biggest demonization of a human group ik western societies in the last 50 years was that of antivaxxers by covidian leftists. nothing comes close.

this is actual fascism, 27% of Canadians are actual fascist monsters. wonna bet what they vote, how they self identify politically?

nothing remotely comes close to that on the right, but ofc you guys are much more worried about the 0.3% who wants to deport all non whites

I understand that everything right of center for you negates being "remotely reasonable" but there were pieces on TDS by CNN, here a decent one by the WSJ (opinion), defining it as I did

https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-next-pa...

Oh Lord, the anti-vaxxer wants to pollute another thread with this nonsense and now he is quoting Canadian polls from 2022 in the Trump thread.

This isn't remotely accurate.

It's as if he's proud of how big of an idiot is. Remarkable.

I can't read the full WSJ article because it is behind a paywall, but based on what I can see, it appears to be a tongue-in-cheek opinion piece.

I searched for the CNN article and this is all I could find.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/19/politics/...

Is that the article you had in mind? If so, LOL, because it is an opinion piece, the upshot of which is:

The truth is that TDS is just the preferred nomenclature of Trump defenders who view those who oppose him and his policies as nothing more than the blind hatred of those who preach tolerance and free speech.

I'm concerned w/ how they demonize liberals, trans people, POC, immigrants, etc... It's only one smaller step mentally to justify why they shouldn't exist in your world. And with the rise of fascist movements across the globe, we're right smack dab in the middle stages of how this all unfolds.

There was always be people who demonize people of every races, sex, religion, immigration status, political affiliation, etc. unfortunately, but do you think more people on the right do this than people on the left?

It seems fairly rare that someone from the right demonizes someone on the left and is fairly common that people on the left demonize those on the right?

Unless you really dig I don't see much trans demonization from either party unless you are including some of the right wanting sports to be fair which seems like an odd inclusion to this.

I don't think a reasonable person would call me an anti-vaxxer, but I do think his argument holds water - that what the govt attempted (to varying levels of success) to do during covid is insanely scary. Also, the fact that with the government is still operating on a inflated covid budget is the stuff of nightmares - it is massive govt overreach.
