President Joe Biden

President Joe Biden

Right now, we need VP Biden, we need him to step down and drop out so Bernie sanders can save this country from this global crisis just like FDR.

A thread to debate the efficacy of a Joe Biden Presidency in the midst of a global pandemic and impending Great Recession/Depression.

Where is Joe Biden? Can he beat Trump and is he even trying to? What would a Joe Biden Presidency look like in these times? Where is he and why isn't he leading?

Your so biased if Trump had announced this you would be all over him

As usual you are wrong .
I know it’s hard for specimen like u that because you are drowning in biais u believed everyone are to not feel bad about it ….
Actually it was maybe one of the few thing that was good economically trump did and I was agreeing with it with another poster couple years ago …
As I wrote even recently and even arguing about the unfair advantages of China devaluing , Tarrifs are one of the few strategy to check mate China on its unfair devaluing of its currency to gain worldwide market share .
They did it for decades .

The biggest reason to prefer Biden over Trump is the future selection of the supreme court justices. The reason Abortion is illegal in a number of red states right now is because of Trump appointed judges in the Supreme Court. There have also been a number of other critical issues like Voter Rights Act which the current supreme court and many appointed federal judges have started undoing.

Other reasons to prefer Biden aside from the appo

Isn’t fighting white supremacy just a form of fighting racism? If so, you seemed to list that twice. I’m not sure how Biden is better than trump on fighting racism - it seemed like racism had this massive downward trajectory pre-Biden and the dem led DEI interrupted that trend. The good news is people have woken up to figure out DEI is just racism by another name so the downward trend of racism will continue no matter who the president is.

Why do you think antisemitism is better under Biden than trump? It seems the right is less tolerant on antisemitism.

The left pushed for school closures far more than the right during and post Covid so there is no way the left is better for education than the right.

Immigration does not reduce inflation. We need a source to suppport that.

Immigration does reduce inflation when it's agricultural workers, or blue collar workers immigrating in not expensive areas of the USA.

The pressure on local rents isn't much and they contribute to keep prices lower for food and goods for Americans.

Immigration concentrated in already expensive cities, especially when it's not even necessarily people immediately getting to work in open positions (ie, asylum seekers in NYC) is terrible for inflation. They consume, they cause increases in rents, and they don't reduce prices enough if at all with their contribution to supply

The democrats in general are terrible wrt asylum seekers (they encourage more to come, even if mismatched in their skills vs open positions in the job market), mainstream republicans are usually optimal for immigration (easy for needed workers, hard for the rest), trump and nativists in general are terrible because they block even the good, useful immigrants

On the bright side I listed it only once in my second post.

Trump has called Hispanic immigrants animals, rapists, drug dealers, etc. All of that is racist. His entire deal with immigration when he was President is that immigrants from places like Eastern Europe were fine and coming from Africa and South and Central America shouldn't be allowed. Which is basically racist.

Why do you think antisemitism is better under Biden than Trump? It seems the right is less tolerant on antisemitism.

Donald Trump had a Neo Nazi to dinner at Mar a Lago. If his son in law wasn't Jewish the antisemitism would have been much more public.

School closures during Covid had nothing to do with education and everything to do with trying to protect older teachers, older parents, grandparents living with children at school.

When my children were in school I used to get sick about twice a school year typically getting the flu or a cold. My son was in high school when Covid hit and I was like 64. I am very grateful for the school closure, and my son did continue taking his classes via Zoom.

Immigration does not reduce inflation. We need a source to support that.

Seriously?

Here is one article on it

Recent history does not support your claim that immigration has a serious effect on inflation. Trump had less immigrants than obama and inflation didn't spike and then immigration soared under biden and inflation has avg. 5.6% per year.

Monetary policy determines inflation - not immigration or tariffs. It was the very well dem supported policies of shutting down parts of the economy, printing too much money for too long after covid and throwing too much money into the economy that caused a major increase in inflation.

Any person who believes that trump would be the same or worse than biden on inflation either hasn't been paying attention or doesn't understand inflation.

I recall years ago trump said mexico wasn't sending their best to illegally cross the border and some of who are they are sending are criminals. Which at the time the media said was racist, which is of course beyond poor reading comprehension. Saying some people of one race are worse than others of the same race is not racist. Is this what you are referring to?

You do realize that many famous people have dinner with thousands of people every year and they very rarely if ever do an internet search on who these people are, right? For the record, I am not accusing you of saying trump is a neo nazi because he broke bread with someone who was a neo nazi because they would be incredible stupid to say.

Agree, and that was the problem. We essentially ignored the welfare of the kids.

Where in those articles does it claim economists are saying that inflation is lowered by higher immigration?

2nd article: "The restaurant industry has borne the brunt of the downturn in immigration. Slower service, restaurants closed for lunch, higher prices – are all a result of labor shortages."

I didn't look further but I'm sure there are more examples.

Even lately he abide to it .

That's an unusual economic expert to be citing.

That's an unusual economic expert to be citing.

idea is an important slice of voters believe that, regardless of whether that's true or not

“Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

“A New York Times/Siena College survey of battleground states released this week found Trump winning more than 20% of Black voters in a two-way matchup with Biden, which would amount to a historic high if it translates to votes in November. Trump won roughly 1 in 10 Black voters nationally in 2020, according to multiple estimates, including 12% in CNN’s exit poll.”

Either Biden was wrong about black voters or we are going to see a lot of transracial people in the near future.

and remember this is with republicans in many places doing their best to have women hate them, so this probably would mean something like 1 black man every 3 who votes, could vote Trump over Biden, while for black women i think 10-12% is already a stretch

There are innumerable stupid people. Look where we are now: the Cheeto guy won presidency and is running again. That's enough evidence for me.

those "stupid people" voted for Biden in 2020 though

It doesn't make sense for the right to use inflation as a talking point because the current administration's policies seem to have corrected the previous. Inflation is now under control. The economy is doing extremely well. The "inflation" described in the blurb posted is corporate price gouging which would be solved with regulation in some form. My point is, misinformed or "stupid" people are why the Orange Meanie was elected and now they've created a monster.

It sucks we're so detached from reality generally, but I'm okay with it because the GOP seems doomed. They lost in 2020, Dems crushed the midterms where MAGAs ran, 2024 should be similar. Then, it's all downhill as the Trumps pillage the RNC and burn it to the ground.

well it might not make sense for you, but polls are really clear about voters hating current inflation (in they sense they mean it, in they sense they want prices lower, not just to stop growing too quickly), and considering democrats responsible for it.

if you are so confident GOP is going to be crushed, wonna bet for Senate control at even odds?

It’s going to be funny the out cry of the Center right voting for trump expecting lower prices from not happy.
As lolwat said , dumb people .

And obviously dumb Americans can’t acknowledge inflation is far worst in the majority of places around the world .
They just have no ability to use context .

Actually when he said "some" he said "and some, I assume, are good people." Like, amongst all those rapist, I guess the chances are there are some of the good ones mixed in.

He was quite confident, however, that there were "very fine people" and a white nationalist rally.

He had a valid point. But it's very easy to just say, "with unregulated immigration, we can't filter out criminals."

If you go on and on about the bad elements in any group and then say, "and some, I assume, are good people" it's obvious what you mean.

Moreover, neither party genuinely wants to cut off this source of cheap labor with no rights. Their donors would have a fit. What, you think Trump wants some orderly system where these people can join unions or call OSHA?

He just wants to use them as a scapegoat.

I think a lot of democrats, especially white urban ones, completely fail to appreciate how socially and economically conservative most racial minorities are relative to most Democrats on pretty much everything that’s not explicitly race related.

That’s why they keep getting surprised when charges of socialism resonate with Cuban Floridians and African American rust belters.

And the surprised Pikachu faces they collectively put up when they realized African Americans want better policing, not less.

Yeah, those misinformed stupid people are so detached from reality they actually think they are worse off under Biden. What a bunch of dummies.
