Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

In fact no, I'm not at all cool with having my identity constantly questioned like this by these two posters. It's just another form of the bullying they were indulged in with vic.

The rules clearly state, and were restated by crossnerd, that posters are to address the contents of posts and not constantly harp on about posters' attributes, real or imagined.

Does this include constantly badgering people on where they live or are from, and/or denying someone's realities?

Asking for a friend

Someone claimed an anecdote in support of a false claim he was making, and got called out on it.

I judge people partly by the friends they keep.

Believe me, that's my issue with Micro 😃

Lol. I hope (for your sake) that this is performative.

I don't like the moderation rules but if people are going to be banned according to the rules then those rules should be enforced across the board.

Accusing posters of being other posters is srs bidness, guys.

Doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks of the rules, they are the rules by which people are allowed to post here without getting banned, apparently.

If you disagree I'll let you take it up with crossnerd.

There is no rule about questioning the identity of a poster. The "fact" that it is a form of bullying is something you made up.

Sounds like your issue is more that the poster you are being compared to is almost universally considered to be terrible.

This being a gambling forum I expect you'd like to make a bet on this. What odds do you suggest?

After I ran an IP search, I concluded that the two posters were not / are not the same person.

Maybe you can still make a bet though.

I am not even comparing him to anyone I am just accusing him of account sharing because of different play styles.

He counters "let's use IP" when they might simply play from the same house for what I know.

I accept it might be some kind of extreme mood change though

Did anyone think they were the same person?

None of us did. We thought one lent his account to the other. And the IP trace wouldn't matter that much there, but I don't want to get into the weeds on how I'd handle that. We can move on.

Two people can use the same VPN from anywhere in the world if they want to appear to be communicating from the same host IP, amongst other methods.

Or one could route traffic for the other.

I am not suggesting that posters here are involved in some sort of highly technical ploy to post from the same account, just pointing out that it's not that hard to pass the IP checks.

In which case they would show as the same IP and you would win the bet, genius.

Brb checking all scenarios

lol ok now this is becoming more fun. You'll recognise our shared house from google maps - the Palestime flags that adorn the entire exterior are a real giveaway.

Here's what our shared roof looks like now.

I should have clarified that I meant poster A logging in as poster A (before he was banned) would show the same IP as poster A logging in as poster B and poster B logging in as poster B.

Boring!!!!!

I'm just here for the engineering challenges.

FWIW, I haven't seen anything from the Jalfrezi account making me think it was Victor. Jalfrezi doesn't have a lot of sympathy for Israel's situation, or Israeli's themselves; but he has never evidenced the pure disgust and complete dehumanization of (((Zionists))) that was a major feature of Victor's posting.

Plenty of sympathy for the Israelis who don't support their disgusting government, and for all of them who were killed or injured.

Civvies don't deserve this ****. Terrorism is mostly valid when the targets are government or military. Once you start blowing up or shooting normal people trying to get on with their lives you've completely lost the plot.

unfortunately that's only like 5% of them

Agreed, it does seem that way. What an absolute **** hole of a country.

Pretty sure this is against forum rules (can't say a country is that, even if you disagree with a position held by 95% of the residents of a country).

Nevermind that the current Israeli government doesn't have 95% approval.

How do I know? I got told that by mods because I disagree with female genital mutilation

guessing there's a lot more if you include "**** hole"

I don't think it makes sense to call countries shitholes even if you disagree with 95% of them (which again is doubtful)-- it still could be a really nice place to visit and I hear that Israel in particular is.
