Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

In b4 d2 says "Free Luc".

oh, wait......

When they came for the fascists I did not speak out because I'm not a fascist...

by d2_e4 P

I'm aware of what he posted, it was in response to me. I'm not going to belabour the point, I've made my opinion known.

As has been stated already, Luciom has had multiple warnings, then timeouts, and then short bans for racial and violent posting. He is aware of the issue and has crossed the line on multiple occasions.

Furthermore, it’s been brought to my attention by other posters that I could be doing more on this forum to make them feel safe as members of the Jewish community, and I intend to honor that concern.

That’s all I have to say on this issue.

I wasn't actually sure what Luciom was getting at with that post. He very well may have been making a racist point, though when I first read it I figured it was some kind of miscommunication on his part.

When people were saying that they don't feel safe as members of the Jewish community on this forum, they were clearly referring to the rampant antisemitism that is currently going on in this world and has been bleeding into the IP thread for the better part of a year. Luciom may have been intending to make a similar racist point, but this is clearly not what Rafiki was referring to when he made that point the other day.

Also, FREE LUCIOM!

by Crossnerd P

As you may have noticed in the I/P moderations that I posted in this thread, Luciom has already been on the path of escalating bans for racist and bigoted posting. The warnings ran out when he posted that “Jews will not replace us” is not a dangerous idea for society.

I don't know the full context of this, but he is definitely Pro-Israel and I don't recall reading anything anti-semitic posted by him. Saying something is not dangerous isn't the same as agreement.

I think the whole "replacement theory" is wholly ridiculous, but I don't think it's any more dangerous to the US than any other silly conspiracy theory. The support of Trump becoming a dictator is far more worrisome.

It’s dangerous to Jews, and we do not allow Nazi talking points on this forum. The end.

i cant really go to bat for luciom as he posted a lot of nutty extreme stuff

that said - i have no doubt that crossnerd will find an excuse to perma mets sooner or later, rafiki seems to be gone, gs hasn't been seen for a while, and so if you're not careful the i/p thread is gonna end up as a bunch of people posting terrorist propaganda back and forth to each other all day without challenge

You haven't been paying attention rob.

His main gripe is with people from countries he regards as backward, whom he has said are no better than animals. He includes lots of Muslims in this, so of course he's very pro-Israel at the moment.

It's no different to how white supremacists have made Muslims their #1 target, temporarily displacing Black and Jewish people. You'd have to be very naive to think it stops there.

Well I guess whatever he said has been deleted now, so I can't really get up to speed on if he actually said something anti-semitic or not. But I haven't seen it in the past and it would surprise me.

It hasn't been deleted, this is the post in question:

No? They were probably there for the reasons they gave as well, ie trying to become relevant in national politics and whatnot.

And?

The "Jews won't replace us" idea isn't dangerous for society.

They are wrong because it isn't the Jews, and they are wrong because they don't want to replace whites but western civilization, but that the left is attempting (and somewhat succeeding) at destroying the west from within (with the help of unlimited lo

Which was in response to this post, part of a back and forth about the Charlottesville protests and Trump's subsequent "fine people on both sides" comments:

by d2_e4 P

Stop deflecting. Is it your position that the "jews will not replace us" crowd was just there to prevent leftists desecrating history?

by d2_e4 P

When they came for the fascists I did not speak out because I'm not a fascist...

yeah i mean if people can't post without unironically doing this:

idk what to tell you

Doesn't look anti-semitic to me. What thread is that from?

You know you can click the arrow icon by the quote and it takes you to the quoted post, right?

The ADL classifies that phrase as a white supremacist slogan and hate symbol predicated in the conspiracist theory that Jews will replace white Christians in position of power.

I will not debate the alleged harmlessness of Nazi beliefs and talking points. I will ban anyone who engages in them.

Gotta love the constant threats of banning for discussing mod decisions... in the mod thread.

by chillrob P

You don't think saying "[a neo-nazi idea about Jews] isn't harmful to society" is anti-semitic? Whether Luciom truly meant it that way could be debateable but in a vacuum the statement he made was overtly anti-semitic.

Well, he said he was posting on a low volume forum to sharpen his online debating skills, so I guess he should see it as a useful lesson on how to better disguise your fascism.

Not one he learnt, I daresay.

I agree that slogan is obviously anti-semitic. I don't think saying the slogan isn't dangerous is anti-semitic.

Now that I have found the context I understand a bit better: though
I think his other comment is much worse, saying that racism is not bad or something to that effect.

he should stick to twitter, where the owner might literally pay you to do mussolini posting

He won't do that. Mussolini was a dangerous socialist, apparently.

I'm sure a month will fly by and it will seem like no time at all before we are again treated to his dulcet tones. I mean, Victor was gone a month, and I barely noticed. I know that you missed him, though.

I did, and so did you if you're being honest. 😉
