Argument can be made that America under fascist, authoritarian, 'banana republic' Trump, would be better than America under Biden shadow government.

Having the best economy in the world sucks big time under Biden .

Seems weird that someone who claims to care only about crypto legislation uses terms like "Biden shadow government" and speaks of Trump so highly in general that he's happy to have him as a dictator for life. That bitcoin must be a helluva drug.

by Tuma P

Kamala is the most smarmy. I go on tilt when hearing her speak.

Does anyone really like her? I can't imagine her as a great and just leader.

Funny thing in that clip .
22sec mark
Trump said « nobody is more pro Israel then I am » !
lol.
So trump by his own word would even be more genocidal toward Palestinians then Biden huh ?

so lucky the shadow government is so loyal as there is turn over from admin to admin over the years...

He has said as much. He said that he would tell Netanyahu to “finish the job.”

You are saying you are happy to have Trump as a dictator with no checks on his power, correct? Why don't you just say that instead of dancing around it for days?

by housenuts P

You are saying you are happy to have Zelenskyy as a dictator with no checks on his power, correct?

I’m confused as to what Zelensky being a dictator has to do with our president president being a dictator or not

The US supports dictators so we can have and win wars

Supporting dictators and electing them to rule over you are two wildly different things.

How come you brought up Zelensky?

I think he was saying that Zelensky has been pulling strings, spending money, and exercising power over Americans. Not totally sure if that was his point though.

I doubt it. I think he was driving towards "oh the like I guy is a dictator? well, the guy you like is a dictator too, so there!" or some similar highly nuanced point.

Or even, what the populists convince them is best for them.

by 72off P

and how is this different from what other politicians do?

Well, it's not entirely, especially to those who are cynical enough to believe every politican is corrupt, only out for themselves, etc. I think that is usually much overstated, but I won't start that debate here. However if that's your view of politicians, then I'd say that populists are on the extreme end of that - at least Trump-style populists are.

by d2_e4 P

Fair point. Speaking only for myself, populism is kinda one of those "know it when I see it" type things.

This.

by Didace P

Populism is when the intellectuals disagree with what the people want.

That's certainly what populists would have you believe.

He’s one of the most cited linguistic scholar of all time.

That does not contradict anything I said.

Which one was that?

That humans are born with "Universal Grammar" built into their brains. It's really a non-scientific theory as it can't be disproven, and it doesn't make a difference to anything even if it is true. It's basically the same thing as saying humans are born with a soul.

If you google "chomsky language theory", the first two hits explain what it is, and the third one how more modern evidence rebuts it.

Rinos have long controlled the Repubs and were always in lockstep w/ Dems as far as the macro globalist agendas (central banking is at the heart of all this too). For example, Obama and Bush are basically friends now and the two were seemingly on either side of violently different political views. Yet Obama has turned the Dems into war mongers as the Rinos once were and still are. Liberal voters have been gaslit into loving war now!!!

Trump

Do you really think Bernie Sanders was sabotaged by the Socialists? Or by the Vermont Progressive Party? Or did you mistakenly think he was a member of the Democratic Party?

by BGnight P

No new wars, brokered peace with Israel and Arab nations, strong economy, strong foreign trade policies, energy independent, secure border, patriotism at all time high, etc, etc...then Dems turned the country into a 3rd world banana republic shithole in 2 years.

The Democrats broke the economy so efficiently that they managed to do it 10 months before they took office!

I’m surprised that people here don’t seem to like her. The latest poll I saw had her doing slightly better against Trump than Newsom. And her presidency would be a historic one.

i can hardly walk to 7-11 without dodging mortar fire and rpg's

thanks obama!!

If this is actually true, and Obama caused it, you probably should have moved at some point in the past 8 years.

I can only speak from my own POV as I have not discussed much politics before.

Being a poker player influenced how I look at and study people. A lot of what I dislike is based on the inflection of her voice and the completely nonsensical way she talks with her hands. She is very "matter of fact" and talks in a roundabout way. For example, rickroll shared a link to a four-minute highlight reel of her repeating the same word salad. She also smiles and laughs quite often. When I think about Kamala, I think about a bar of soap sliding up and down a bathtub like a halfpipe.

Beyond my dislike of her micro-expressions, I do think it would be great to have a woman president.

That's certainly what populists would have you believe.

Without debating the meaning of "populist" the view that politicians are not corrupt and the US is not dominated by "elites" (again, you could use other words), is not much saner than Q anon.

Members of congress have decided that insider trading, which is stealing money from honest investors who would have made those gains, is legal for them. It's a felony for us. I mean, come on bro. You are living in a country where Congress has decided it's OK for them to commit felonies.

Here Pelosi, worth 9 figs, says it's OK for them to just openly steal from you.

Do you know what the Checkers the dog story with Nixon was? Dick was not a wealthy man and he struggled to meet his living and travel expenses as a politician. Some donors helped him out and it was a scandal. One of the gifts he received was Checkers, and he went on TV and said, if his critics wanted him to return his beloved family pet, he would and killed the scandal.

Bill Clinton did not start off a wealthy man, though they were upper middle when he entered pols. This is one of the Clintons' homes. It was just a summer home. It had 9.5 BRs and was listed for 32 million when they sold. Agian, SUMMER house.

We've gone from Checkers the dog to $32 million summer homes.

Their wealth comes almost entirely from "speaking fees" from the corporations they were in charge of overseeing. We were expected to believe Hillary would be perfectly neutral in dealing with the people who bought her that home.

When Eric Cantor (R) was voted out of office, he immediately got a 7 figure job on wall street with no financial background. Chelsea's (D) first job out of college, with a philosophy degree, was a senior executive at a hedge fund.

Our political system is controlled by 2 private institutions that are not directly accountable to the public and they have practically outlawed all opposition.

Lobbying is a 9 billion dollar a year industry. In 2022 businesses invested 3.5 billion in the political process, in many cases donating to both sides. That's a non presidential year obviously.

DC is full of think tanks, which are funded almost entirely by corporations, wealthy individuals and foreign governments.

These people are not stupid. They are not spending eleven figures annually because they get a low ROI.

You're living in a country where the Supreme Court has decided it's ok for the President to have his political rivals killed.

That's true. It's a beautiful thing for Dems too, as they can do whatever they want and run on "at least we aren't Trump."

I guess that's why Democrats have been supporting the far right.

Well, without that, we're not going too far, as that is what my post was about. :p

Great, that sounds like a debate you can have with someone who believes that, and is interested in such a debate in this thread.

On the first point, I didn't say that "politicians are not corrupt", because of course there are corrupt politicians. What I was suggesting was that the idea that "every politican is corrupt, only out for themselves" is much overstated, and also that I wasn't going to get into that debate here. But to briefly state my position, what I push back on is the idea that every politician is corrupt. And I don't mean that if I can find 1 politician in 1,000 that isn't corrupt, I'm correct; I mean that there are a significant percentage that aren't. That percentage would be quite high at the lowest levels, and probably quite low at the highest levels. As for the US being dominated by "elites", without nit-picking about definitions, sure.

No, we don't have a Congress here in Canada. 😀

without cheating and googling it:

name some things she is known for

what initiatives has she led, what policies is she known for, etc

what makes kamala kamala, or did she just fall out of a coconut tree?

Kamala's claim to fame is that she is the VP that has been locked in a room at the White House and has not done or said anything of note that entire time. When Obama was president, there was no doubt as to who Biden was and why he could take the reigns if necessary. Same thing for Cheney, Al Gore, and even Mike Pence. The only VP in recent history that does not seem to fit that bill is Dan Quayle, who has done nothing of note since leaving the White House as VP.

If the party wanted to build up Harris as the next face of the party, they needed to put her out there, front and center. Again, you constantly saw Biden in the media having Obama's back throughout the Obama presidency, which is ultimately why he is president now. They did not do that with Harris, so the biggest thing she is known for is being a prosecutor out of California. That is just not going to cut it.

Current VP, former CA Senator and long-time federal DA?
