[WPT Global] Official Thread

Hi 2+2ers,

Welcome to the official WPT Global thread!

WPT Global is the real-money online poker business of the World Poker Tour, and we’re about to celebrate our two-year anniversary, having launched in April 2022. After such a short time, we’re already the third-largest online poker room in the world (ranked by PokerScout.com, based on cash game traffic).

We’re joining TwoPlusTwo to share information with you, engage with the community, and answer any questions you might have.

WPT Global is special for a few reasons:

 • Our modern platform has been built from the beginning to leverage AI technology. We use this in two main ways. The first is to protect the games by detecting collusion, bot use, RTA use and other forms of cheating extremely quickly. We have the best Game Integrity tech I’ve experienced in my 19 years in the industry, and a team of around 50 people using it.

 • The second way we utilise AI technology is in managing our ecology. We ensure that games are sustainable and beatable by reserving seats in every game for casual players and limiting the number of seats per table that can be occupied by highly skilled professionals. I’ll go into more detail on this point later, in the below FAQ, but the net result is - we have the softest cash games you’ll find online, and typical win-rates for regs are 5-10x higher than elsewhere. (If you don't’ believe me, just try them and see for yourself).

 • We have had a large liquidity pool from the very beginning, especially in cash games. This is because we partnered with a couple of successful Asia-facing poker rooms to bootstrap their liquidity. Most poker startups face an enormous challenge in growing their liquidity from scratch - this solution allowed us to launch with cash games running 24/7 and it contributes to our soft player pool. Now, WPT Global is a large poker site in its own right and less dependent on the Asia liquidity, and we’re growing our games in US Dollars all the time.

 • There is enormous value on offer - our explicit aim is to pay back more to players via promotions and giveaways than any other site. Check out our current promotions here.

 • Global Spins is our unique twist on the Jackpot SNG concept, with a progressive jackpot and the lowest rake in the industry (5%).

 • As part of the World Poker Tour family, we’re the best place to qualify for WPT events around the world, like the WPT World Championship at the Wynn later this year.

Some of you might remember me and my colleague WPT Global Peter from our previous roles. Many years ago, I was one of the first site representatives ever to engage with the 2+2 community, as the first PokerStars representative in the ‘PokerStars Software Improvement Thread’. Later, Peter and I ran the ‘Official MPN - Microgaming Poker Network...’. You can expect a similar level of transparency and responsiveness here. While I don’t promise to respond to every single thing, no constructive question or criticism is off limits.

I look forward to engaging with you all!

All the best,

Alex Scott

FAQ

You can also read a more general FAQ on our website, here.

What countries is WPT Global available in?

Currently, we have a .com licence and have not entered any regulated markets (although we will start to do so later this year). We’re open to most markets that have yet to regulate, including Canada (except Ontario), Ireland, New Zealand and most of Latin America, Asia and Africa.

We don’t (yet) accept players from the US, UK, Australia, Russia, and most of Europe. If you’re from one of these countries and want to qualify for WPT events then Club WPT might work for you!

See our Terms and Conditions (section 2.5) for more detailed information.

How does the ecology management system work? Do you ban winners from playing at WPT Global?

Our ecology management system is specifically designed so that we can run sustainable games without having to penalise winners.

In cash games, our AI technology measures the skill level of every player and predicts their win rate. The model is highly accurate and continually updates so that it cannot be abused or ‘gamed’.

We reserve a number of seats at each cash game table for players that fall into one of our ‘casual player’ categories. In our most popular game (8-Handed NLHE with an ante and a straddle) we reserve six of the eight seats for casual players, which effectively means that highly-skilled pros can only occupy two seats.

Because there is plenty of liquidity, if you find yourself categorised as a pro, you can still always find a game to play at any stake, and you can guarantee yourself a seat in a great game if you start a table, since our ecology management system ensures that only one other pro can sit with you.

The system does not categorise players by their actual win rate, but by how skilled they are. If you have a great run of luck, you will not necessarily be categorised as a pro, and vice versa, you will not necessarily be categorised as a casual player if you run bad.

We find that once players get used to the system, they love it. Both pros and beginners have a better experience because we eliminate some of the common predatory behaviour that occurs elsewhere, and pros can achieve significantly higher win rates. I encourage you to give it a try!

What’s with the games in CNY currency?

Because we partnered with Asia-facing poker rooms to launch, some of our games are in Chinese Yuan (CNY) currency. At the time of writing, the exchange rate to the dollar is about 7.25 CNY to the USD. As we’ve become less dependent on the Asian liquidity we have introduced more USD games. Most cash games and all tournaments including Global Spins are now available in USD, and for those of you that want to play in the CNY games, there’s a handy currency converter in the lobby, and the ability to change the stacks to BB.

LOL I don't understand how this app restrict "high skill players", still looing 25 buyin and they ****ed me up.

At least you should open tables until people can win back their money, WPT's restriction is a joke.

Couple of points here.

1. The FairGame AI system works on how skilled you are, not how much you've won or lost. So it does occasionally happen that a skilled player gets unlucky in the short term and still falls into the 'pro' category.

2. There are still tables at every stake available to you, we only hide the ones you're not able to play at because there are already the maximum number of pros seated. One of the best ways to guarantee a good game is to start a new table.

Can I have drivehud running for my use on pokerstars whilst playing WPT Global simultaneously?
Won't be using a HUD or any of the sorts for WPT Global

1. This is not fair at all. You made players look stupid before the variance. I cannot accept that I loose 24k then winning back 4k and I got banned to good tables. This is just stupid.

2. Hard to play at least 2-3 tables at the same time, not even 4.

stop playing 20/14 you nit

also can we get a second 0.20/0.50(0.10) plo 5card table please there seems to be a bug where a second table opens but nobody can see it(im biggest loser there so no restricted table etc hehe)

Our Preheat Festival kicks off in just over 8 hours time! Today's schedule:

Satellites and feeders are running right now to pretty much every event!

Not strictly true. Often you're not allowed to start tables also. Gotta sit HU with some 33/22 reg - AND other regs can and do join these games

My account started like this btw, as I signed up through an agent. So all of you guys complaining about having access to tables for a couple weeks or so, lol, you don't know how good you've had it.

Sometimes I get to see a table, but I'm 80% self starter (when there's an empty table available, which most of the time there is to be fair).

No, DriveHUD is completely banned. It includes WPT Global functionality, which we've asked the developers to remove, and they refused. So unfortunately we can't allow it to be run at the same time as WPTG.

I may not convince you here, but the point is - all tables are good, because of the FairGame system. You haven't been banned from good tables. All tables are good tables!

There is indeed a bug here and we're working on it.

Thanks for the screenshot - it's helpful. I'll look into what we can do to open more tables. By the way - we're going to introduce rewards for table starters in a few weeks time, which I think you'll like if you find yourself having to start new tables a lot.

I confirm that often I also don't see the empty table when i want to start a game. In general i have the impression that beyond the FairGame system (I still see the 'good tables'), there are other cases in which you don't see a table. For example, it happens that I try to start a table, but I see that after 10 minutes there are still 4 of us so I decide to close it. Once closed I want to keep an eye on it in the lobby to see if it fills up, but it doesn't appear.
Other times i see the table in the lobby but when I try to buy chips this message appears: 'Can't sit down, please try another table'.
How do these cases work?
Thanks

Day 2 of our $3,000,000 guaranteed Preheat Festival starts in ~15 minutes time!

As mentioned a couple of days ago, our Summer Festival (28th July - 18th August) is $8,000,000 guaranteed. Here is the full schedule

I also have the same experience here with starting tables.

It's not always a guarantee you can get a table in 20 mins+ of sitting.
Part of me feels like some tables are just decoy tables that only "highly skilled players" can see they just never seem to get started and also I never see an "observer" despite having that window open(maybe I always miss it).
Its a bit tinfoily hattish, but thats been my experience many times.
It makes the table starting tough when part of me feels like some of the tables available to me are not "real" tables.

Also, having 2 structures, bomb and regular, and 2 ante sizes, means there can be loads of 0/8 tables in the lobby, like im talking 5+ tables 0/8. To incentivise tables starting there should be less choice IMO. Studies show that more choice ultimately results in less satisfaction with the choice taken anyway, so I see no reason to not aggressively cull 0/8 tables, leaving only 1 or 2 available at any time.

Also, WPTG is going to incentivise table starting, could you define what a table starter is?
Is it just the person who first sits at the table before the game begins?
Or is it the first 2 players who play heads up before the table fills?
What about 3 regs playing 3 handed?

Also, can you stop putting me in the SB for every bomb pot!?

Also, bomb pots are so boring, if they are indeed more popular than other tables then so be it, but if not, I would be on board with limiting them.

Thanks.

Wow, did you guys fix the BB to chips thing? software is snappy AF ATM, so great job!

It makes the table

Yeah, I'm 100% convinced that if you (as a reg) open a new table and another reg joins you for HU (In the belief that you 2 will start a new table and some recreational will join), there is actually almost 0% chance that recreations will enter (as you said, nobody from recreationals are observing the table). I think, that there is some similar restriction for recreationals (for reges there is a restriction of only 2 regs for the table, otherwise you can´t see the table) I mean, maybe there is a restriction for recreationals, that they can't see the tables with multiple regulars seated....

So sorry Alex, but your advice "Start a new table" makes me smile all the time 😀 but don´t take it offensively. After 2 weeks of HU with regs, or 2-6 regs at the table without any recreational whatsoever, I stopped opening new tables cos is soooo much pain

Yeah if a reg sits you HU you are f'd. It's not 0% chance to start a decent table, it's more like 10%. If 1 more reg joins it goes to 0%. I'm sure recreationals can no longer see your table at this point.

Table starting very very tough! Sometimes takes an hour to get 2 tables, even if you mix stakes.

When are we going to address the elephant in the room - crushers with 100k+ hands who are able to view and join tables regardless of line up (tables that I've started, then have disappeared from my 'restricted account' lobby due to the players who sat me for example).

Just finished a 2hour+ session where I open sat many tables, probably was seated 1/8 on 20+ different tables spanning over 1.5hours combined total, and not a soul appeared.

I seen 1 observer, briefly when I sat a table, and then they vanished, assumedly along with the table I was seated on for 20 minutes or whatever length of time.

Often closing the tables I'm sitting alone on after 20 minutes or so, and sitting other ones because I believe some tables are not real. Alex, if you could confirm or deny this I would appreciate the time it could save me.

If we are to be incentivised to start tables, it needs to be possible and unless im mistaken this was all during peak hours. Also spread across 2 stakes.

It's an interesting system. Having similar troubles finding tables at 5/10/20 and 10/20/40, spending lots of time sitting alone or refreshing the lobby. Had to laugh when I sat at an empty 10/20/40 table and it immediately disappeared from the MyGames tab, presumably meaning it was already restricted.

Alex, the 6 max games seem to be gaining a lot of interest (often 3-5 $1/2 running when it used to be max 1), please consider adding $2/4 or $2/5. Thanks

Do you hide 'good' tables from all players labeled as a skilled or some of them are privileged and excluded from this rule and still able to see and join them?

Lots of feedback here - just want to say I appreciate it and will look into everything that's been posted in more detail. As it's Saturday night here, just a quick response to some of the key points raised.

Nobody is privileged, the FairGame system applies to everybody playing NLHE and Short Deck cash games. (It doesn't apply or have any effect in Omaha).

Table starting very very tough! Sometimes takes an hour to get 2 tables, even if you mix stakes.

I'm concerned by this and it's definitely not intentional. I'm going to investigate and find out what's going on.

When are we going to address the elephant in the room - crushers with 100k+ hands who are able to view and join tables regardless of line up (tables that I've started, then have disappeared from my 'restricted account' lobby due to the players who sat me for example).

This isn't the case, or at least I can think of any situation where it would be possible. It might help for me to give more info about how the system works and then maybe we can figure out together what's going on. All of this helps us to refine the system and communicate it better, so I appreciate your feedback here.

The first thing is that FairGame works by predicting each player's win rate based on the hands that they play at each stake group. It's based on your skill, not how much you have actually won. (So for example you can win, but still be categorised as a novice player, if you just get lucky). Its very accurate within a couple of hundred hands, but obviously gets more accurate the more hands you play. Most players start out in the 'Unknown' category and then get categorised within a few hours of gameplay. (There are some situations where you might start out in one of the other categories, like if you sign up via a rakeback affiliate, but they are the exception and not the rule).

If you change stakes, you will probably start back in the 'Unknown' category for the new stake group until you've played enough hands there to be categorised.

At the majority of tables, there are a maximum of 2 highly skilled pro players allowed. If those two seats are already occupied, anyone in the pro group won't see that table in the lobby. (Aside: We are working on ways to improve how this is all displayed in the client, because we know that the experience can be a bit confusing).

At some tables the maximum number of pros might be higher (generally, at stakes where there isn't much liquidity, e.g. very high stakes). It's also theoretically possible to create tables where there are unlimited numbers of pros allowed, or no pros allowed at all, but I don't think any of these are currently configured.

So what might explain what you've experienced? Maybe you're playing in games where more than 2 pros are allowed; maybe you're referring to Omaha; maybe the players you're referring to are not actually very skilled (or at least haven't been categorised as such yet by FairGame); maybe you're actually the only pro left at the table when the other pro joins... I'm not sure, but do any of these explanations make sense to you?

by Savz.58 P
