Wikipedia says his mother was a drug addict and he mostly lived with his grandparents in Ohio, who were from Appalachia.
I understand this is all tribal, so most of you aren't inclined to be generous. But I would say this qualifies as a "poor white" upbringing, and the fact he played Magic isn't the gotcha you seem to think it is.

Can you explain the mountain dew joke? Is it funny because "dew" sounds like "jew"? Or is there some mountain connection I'm missing here?
I looked up the Montain Dew "joke." If that is a preview of things to come it doesn't look like we should be expecting too many HRs from Vance.

And I can't believe I'm explaining this to someone who is seemingly fairly intelligent, but since you've made this same mistake twice in as many days: it's "won't hold my breath", the whole point being that if you did hold your breath, it would take so long that you would die. Holding your breath would defeat the whole point, you see, because then I could just decline to provide you whatever it is you're waiting for until you expire. Also, "breath" is the noun, "breathe" is a verb.

Lol I just looked it up as well. He got absolutely no reaction from the crowd, laughed at his own joke, then said "I love you guys" to a completely silent audience. Wow, he couldn't even think enough on his feet to know that laughing and delivering the "I love you guys" line was only appropriate if the audience actually laughed. I wouldn't hire that guy as a parking lot attendant.

His book made it obvious that he had the same middle-class upbringing that most older Millennials had. He plays up the "omg I was so poor" schtick when it was clearly not true, in order to brag about how amazing he is.

I had friends who played Magic (was never my thing personally). I am pretty confident none of them had junkie single mothers and grew up with their grandparents from Appalachia.
Anyways, I am sure by your antagonism towards Vance you are going to support Kamala. And from what I know her embellishments of her childhood are at least as bad as Vance's; so it is going to take a lot of cognitive dissonance on your part not to be bothered by this. But I have every confidence you will find a way.
And this isn't even going into Joe Biden's well documented history of just making up **** about his life that he thought would play good.
