I haven't read any book written by Harris, nor am I too familiar with her upbringing, so I cannot comment. I read Hillbilly Elegy and it was clearly a dishonest attempt to build himself up as some underdog hero who pulled himself up by his bootstraps, as if it is practically impossible for anybody born without a silver spoon to be anything but a donkey in this country.
I get that you are taken with his story. Young man born into poverty pulls himself up and is now a big deal, all because of his own hard work. It is a story as old as time! But it falls flat when it is not true, and from the entire body of his autobiography, not just the magic the gathering reference which you keep harping on, it is all a complete exaggeration.

He'll be easy to goad. All she has to do is hint that if he doesn't do the debate with a woman that means he has a tiny dick or something to that effect, and his pre-schooler mentality won't allow him to resist the bait.
Dems would have to know they were risking that with subjecting Biden to an early debate instead of replacing him by subjecting him to hard interviews (and tbh even just the public appearances were just as damaging like at the NATO summit and introducing Zelensky as Putin)
I remember decades ago reading in a psychology book the way in which many people abandon rationality when their emotions or identity are involved. "Of course, we all do that," I thought. No biggie. What I didn't realize then was the extent to which reality can be so totally dismissed in this dynamic. So that, yes, we all have some difficulty with this issue, but, like anything else, there is a big range on which people are on this continuum. The "Reality Show" turn-reality-upside-down-party, flaunting their lust to be gaslighted away from reality, vomit up their nominees based on this wish. It is wishing, not respecting reality, that is the guiding principle in their psychology.
Coping with reality is a built in character test for human beings. If we learn to cope with it, accept it, deal with it, admit it, subjugate our wishes to it rather than vice versa, we develop a reality based dynamic within consciousness. If it is too overwhelming and we seek to escape it, we seek to subvert our minds in response to its threat. Somebody who gaslights us becomes our friend, our seducer, our savior. A master of propaganda is vomited up as our leader. "Master" just means tell them what they want to hear, turn reality on its ear, and do it relentlessly. The Ministry of Truth decrees that 2+2=5, and the rabble are assuaged, appeased, indulged. And a movement is born. Where there is a population by the tens of millions sending money to television evangelists, there is a population ripe and yawning to be taken like this.

When he got mad at Bannon, he started referring to him as "Sloppy Steve," which was pretty on the nose. Two weeks before it happened, my brother called and said that if Trump got crosswise with Bannon, he would label him "Sloppy Steve."
When Trump started with the Sloppy Steve tweets, my brother was beside himself with pride at his prediction.
