[WPT Global] Official Thread

Hi 2+2ers,

Welcome to the official WPT Global thread!

WPT Global is the real-money online poker business of the World Poker Tour, and we’re about to celebrate our two-year anniversary, having launched in April 2022. After such a short time, we’re already the third-largest online poker room in the world (ranked by PokerScout.com, based on cash game traffic).

We’re joining TwoPlusTwo to share information with you, engage with the community, and answer any questions you might have.

WPT Global is special for a few reasons:

 • Our modern platform has been built from the beginning to leverage AI technology. We use this in two main ways. The first is to protect the games by detecting collusion, bot use, RTA use and other forms of cheating extremely quickly. We have the best Game Integrity tech I’ve experienced in my 19 years in the industry, and a team of around 50 people using it.

 • The second way we utilise AI technology is in managing our ecology. We ensure that games are sustainable and beatable by reserving seats in every game for casual players and limiting the number of seats per table that can be occupied by highly skilled professionals. I’ll go into more detail on this point later, in the below FAQ, but the net result is - we have the softest cash games you’ll find online, and typical win-rates for regs are 5-10x higher than elsewhere. (If you don't’ believe me, just try them and see for yourself).

 • We have had a large liquidity pool from the very beginning, especially in cash games. This is because we partnered with a couple of successful Asia-facing poker rooms to bootstrap their liquidity. Most poker startups face an enormous challenge in growing their liquidity from scratch - this solution allowed us to launch with cash games running 24/7 and it contributes to our soft player pool. Now, WPT Global is a large poker site in its own right and less dependent on the Asia liquidity, and we’re growing our games in US Dollars all the time.

 • There is enormous value on offer - our explicit aim is to pay back more to players via promotions and giveaways than any other site. Check out our current promotions here.

 • Global Spins is our unique twist on the Jackpot SNG concept, with a progressive jackpot and the lowest rake in the industry (5%).

 • As part of the World Poker Tour family, we’re the best place to qualify for WPT events around the world, like the WPT World Championship at the Wynn later this year.

Some of you might remember me and my colleague WPT Global Peter from our previous roles. Many years ago, I was one of the first site representatives ever to engage with the 2+2 community, as the first PokerStars representative in the ‘PokerStars Software Improvement Thread’. Later, Peter and I ran the ‘Official MPN - Microgaming Poker Network...’. You can expect a similar level of transparency and responsiveness here. While I don’t promise to respond to every single thing, no constructive question or criticism is off limits.

I look forward to engaging with you all!

All the best,

Alex Scott

FAQ

You can also read a more general FAQ on our website, here.

What countries is WPT Global available in?

Currently, we have a .com licence and have not entered any regulated markets (although we will start to do so later this year). We’re open to most markets that have yet to regulate, including Canada (except Ontario), Ireland, New Zealand and most of Latin America, Asia and Africa.

We don’t (yet) accept players from the US, UK, Australia, Russia, and most of Europe. If you’re from one of these countries and want to qualify for WPT events then Club WPT might work for you!

See our Terms and Conditions (section 2.5) for more detailed information.

How does the ecology management system work? Do you ban winners from playing at WPT Global?

Our ecology management system is specifically designed so that we can run sustainable games without having to penalise winners.

In cash games, our AI technology measures the skill level of every player and predicts their win rate. The model is highly accurate and continually updates so that it cannot be abused or ‘gamed’.

We reserve a number of seats at each cash game table for players that fall into one of our ‘casual player’ categories. In our most popular game (8-Handed NLHE with an ante and a straddle) we reserve six of the eight seats for casual players, which effectively means that highly-skilled pros can only occupy two seats.

Because there is plenty of liquidity, if you find yourself categorised as a pro, you can still always find a game to play at any stake, and you can guarantee yourself a seat in a great game if you start a table, since our ecology management system ensures that only one other pro can sit with you.

The system does not categorise players by their actual win rate, but by how skilled they are. If you have a great run of luck, you will not necessarily be categorised as a pro, and vice versa, you will not necessarily be categorised as a casual player if you run bad.

We find that once players get used to the system, they love it. Both pros and beginners have a better experience because we eliminate some of the common predatory behaviour that occurs elsewhere, and pros can achieve significantly higher win rates. I encourage you to give it a try!

What’s with the games in CNY currency?

Because we partnered with Asia-facing poker rooms to launch, some of our games are in Chinese Yuan (CNY) currency. At the time of writing, the exchange rate to the dollar is about 7.25 CNY to the USD. As we’ve become less dependent on the Asian liquidity we have introduced more USD games. Most cash games and all tournaments including Global Spins are now available in USD, and for those of you that want to play in the CNY games, there’s a handy currency converter in the lobby, and the ability to change the stacks to BB.

Alex, could you please comment on this paragraph , taken from your website ? Especially phrases that are underlined with red color.

..]

Quote from this paragraph : "

I think the reading of this is the same old argument. Winning players are bad and the site deserve 99.5% of deposits as opposed to the older models where they received between 93%-97% of deposits. It is just nicer if you say it differently.

It's just wild to me, because the only poker site that's been worth any sort of money (Pokerstars), basically viewed poker as a transactional business where more hands played on the site was good. Even if majority of those hands were played at a substantial discount to the published price, because once the software is built the marginal cost of dealing an extra hand of poker is approximately 0.

Every other site has decided they only want poker hands played at the highest price they can possibly charge (which is quite high because some small percentage of user base will still play poker losing 50+ big blinds per 100). And oddly economic theory still applies and less poker is played on their sites.

I think most sites miss that poker is a network activity, so more people playing poker draws more people to play poker. So having more active players draws more players onto the site. The second thing they miss is people love talking about players who make a living player poker. There is some mystique to putting your money on the line, risking it all, and winning. So your successful professionals provide both liquidity and advertisement.

The net depositor business model has lead to a bunch of small sites, who make more money from their casinos then their poker games. Pokerstars sold for 6+ billion into today's dollars, only offering poker. I have yet to see a "poker ecology" site come close to those numbers.

Someone from my comunity was playing and the tables and suddenly he could watch the villians hole cards.
If the software have that kind of leaks how you cannot be suspicios of superusers? Im comvinced they exist on this site too much weird spots.

Day 2 of our $8,000,000 guaranteed Summer Festival has just started:

There is another $220 BI feeder to our $250,000 $2,100 High Roller Bounty starting in a bit over 2 hours time

We have a few $55 BI feeders to our $400,000 WPT500, running closer to the start time of today's flight

I put in some feeders to the first $1,060 WPT Prime ($750,000 GTD) flight. Those have a $110 BI and guarantee at least 2 seats in each. The first $1,060 WPT Prime flight starts this coming Sunday at 17:00 ET

Someone from my comunity was playing and the tables and suddenly he could watch the villians hole cards.

The player in question had bought into (and sat down at) an MTT that was in late registration, and could see a cached version of the previous hand's hole cards (of the 2 players that went to showdown)

Couple of quick points before I address specific queries.

1. A number of posters in this thread have raised concerns that Fairgame is not working as advertised, they feel like it's too difficult to start new tables or they feel like tables are hidden from them that should not be. Thanks to this feedback we have resolved two issues relating to table creation that were making it too difficult to get seats - a) tables weren't being created quickly enough, leading to some cases where there were no tables available to sit at; b) closed tables weren't being cleaned up quickly enough after a configuration change, leading to some tables in the lobby that would never start. We are still investigating if there's anything else going on that would cause the system to not be working as advertised and I'll share with you if we make any changes.

2. I acknowledge the concern about 'burner' accounts - while I stand by my previous comments that it would be very stupid to risk your account and all your funds just to gain an advantage this way, I can't guarantee that it's not happening. Our security team is investigating this with a high priority and if it is indeed happening, we'll find a solution to it. Needless to say this kind of activity is against our T&Cs and if you do it, we will seize and redistribute your funds.

Can you please answear how you will deal with losing 80% of regulars trafic from next month, because i have to make a decision, continue playing with cheaters abusers and some recreationals or moving on another platform.

Even if 100% of the players affected by the change to affiliate commission decide to leave the site, it will not significantly impact our liquidity. I appreciate that reading this thread, you may come to the conclusion that a lot of players are affected, but that isn't actually the case.

by OldSurehand P

Alex,

What is ratholing time for PLO5 Omaha?...
I guess it is (possibility for returning immediately with initial buyin) a feature not a bug in your software. Unlike at other online rooms where it is blockage imposed: half an hour, 1 hour or 2 hours usually.

Currently it's possible to leave and return with less - this is a network level decision, but we have successfully lobbied to change it (although it may not be immediate).

by OmgImBreaking P

If a player is recognized as skilled at NLH 2 4 8 CNY, will he also lose the rakeback and viewing of all tables at the same game but a lower level (NLH 1 2 4 CNY)?
I also have another question please: from this point of view (that of the evaluation for the purposes of rakeback and viewing or not all tables), are the NLH 0.2, 0.5 1 $ and the 2 4 8 CNY level considered the same game? Or because 8 CNY has a slightly higher value than 1 dollar i

I can't be 100% specific when answering your question however I can say that in general:

a) yes, Fairgame groups stakes together into stake groups
b) yes, in general if you are tagged as a highly-skilled pro at a particular stake group, you'll usually be tagged as a pro at lower stake groups as well, for obvious reasons

Is It normal that from mobile I can see way more tables running than from laptop? (Im not sure I can Seat in them but for sure I see many more)

The mobile does have a newer lobby design based on the grouped lobby, this same lobby will be coming to desktop in future. It's all the same tables though.

by sortpuz23 P

Second, i want to help about my account. My account got lock due to security check, and this is an agent account means i cant send rakeback to customer.

If you would like to PM me your username / ID I will have a look at this for you, but it's best that you directly contact your affiliate manager.

by samcx P

Every time I want to open a new table/tournament I get this error - only been happening the last two days, odd & it's annoying having to restart the client 20x a day, especially when the only way to actually close it is task manager. Also a nightmare sitting out for a minute or two elsewhere every time as well.

No issue for two months prior, w/ same location/connection.

The type of error suggests to me that something has changed about your device or internet connection, however if you please contact customercare@wptglobal.com they can help you to diagnose this issue. Thanks

Clearly he has never played on the site or know the advantages of burner accounts outweigh pro acc. Burner accounts can view/play almost every single table on the app getting max RB while a HSP can't sit a table for jack **** while getting 0RB? Elaborate please

Of course I haven't played on the site (except a very few hands for testing purposes or private staff tournaments). This does make it harder for me to understand, yes. You'll see that my previous posts refers to the theoretical advantage / disadvantage because in theory, the advantage to be gained is minimal. However I'm listening, and when so many posters tell me that the reality is different, I tend to believe you. As mentioned above - we've resolved two issues relating to the table visibility already thanks to feedback from this thread, and we're investigating the burner accounts as well.

Quote from this paragraph : " Poker sites have tried to solve ecology problems like this before. The most common way this problem is addressed is to penalise winning players for example by cutting their rewards and\or eligibility for promotions, or even banning them from the site altogether ..... At WPT Global , we don't think methods like these are fair. " .

I can't answer this question in a way that will please you, however if you want to see this decision through our eyes then please consider:

1. WPT Global has never offered rakeback, outside of a few small / temporary / limited experiments. We don't actually know which players are getting rakeback and which aren't because that'll all done via affiliates who are third parties.

2. We have always discouraged affiliates from offering rakeback, and warned that if they did offer it, it would likely cause problems that might result in some players being untagged, commission changes being made, or the closure of affiliate accounts entirely.

3. We are part of a poker network - this network has enabled us to establish, grow and be successful where other poker sites have failed, but it comes with expectations and conditions from our network partners, that we do not damage their businesses. Either we live up to these conditions, or we disconnect from the network entirely (and we are not quite big enough to do that yet).

To be clear on what we've done, we haven't removed rakeback because we never offered rakeback. We've changed the way we compensate affiliates. Affiliates decide how they change the deals with their players. Yes, this change will make offering simple rakeback essentially impossible but that doesn't mean that affiliates can't reward players in a different way.

We're also not keeping any money we save (if we save any). Every penny and a lot more will go back to players, it will just be spent in a different way, and directly through the platform not via affiliates.

If you're interested in understanding my thinking on how rewards should be spent a little more, you can read this old article. I wrote it nearly ten years ago but my thinking hasn't changed much since then: https://scott.co.im/2016/03/23/value-pok...

It led to an appearance on Joey Ingram's podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-o9y3Vt...

Essentially, I think there are two categories of winning pros:

1. Those who positively contribute to the ecology of the games and raise the value of the players around them. For example, by starting tables and keeping them running, playing quickly, being a fun opponent to play against, etc.
2. Those who harm the ecology by lowering the value of the players around them. There are lots of negative examples of this like bumhunting, playing slowly, being abusive or unpleasant to play against, etc.

WPT Global intends to reward recreational players AND pros in the first category a great deal, more than any other site in fact. But we will not spend any money trying to attract or reward the second category and those players would do better playing elsewhere.

I fully understand that it's probably not Alex himself who took this insanely unfair decision to remove rakeback ( especially for shortdeck holdem, where rake in bb\100 is several times higher than in NLHE). I appreciate Alex for his dialog with us, and my anger is forwarded mostly to WPT management.

You are somewhat right - while the buck stops with me as the most senior person in WPT Global, I am still accountable to our investors and our network partners and sometimes, like any business leader, I am put in difficult positions. I still believe that the best thing to do is to continue to engage with the community and listen, even if the easy thing to do would be to walk away.

Can you clarify how this works? I see some regs unfiltered from all games, so do those regs still get max RB? Those who start tables, keeps games going will get money credited to their accounts without the need to contact their affiliate? How often? What % of their rake do they get back? Lastly What about those that are labelled HSP leaves the table (i.e. table becomes unfiltered) and a new HSP join, do they get RB on the rake paid on that table?

Same issue here with the stake I do the best at (25/50/100CNY) - can only open sit but not join a single table since every table is hidden in the lobby. (from phone can see 6+ tables running)

For my higher stake 50/100/200 and above can play and see all tables (doing worse there too)

Not saying this is intentional but kind of hard to say that it's a random lobby bug that works exactly that way.

Would appreciate some insights on this 😀

hello.

may i know where can i get more information, regading the WPT cash game insurance? how it work ? and how it count?

Hey Alex, really appreciated your reply, at least dont like your security team, just ban and tell wait.
I 've got information that my agent account got banned because I sell elite hud licenses that I 've already sold for 2 years before working with wpt global.
This is really ridiculous. Eventhose i bring for WPT hundred customers, your securiy team want ban me with a reason that i dont know break what TOS of wpt global.
Good luck for all who trust in wpt.

Day 3 of the $8M GTD Summer Festival starts in about 15 minutes time. Normal schedule today:

Along with the festival, there is a WPT Global Games promotion running, where over $40,000 will be awarded including a $12,400 WPT World Championship package!

Hi Alex, another 50/100-100/200 reg here, wanting to echo everybody elses thoughts in the thread, obscenely greedy and stupid changes regarding rb. Clearly lessons weren't learned from the demise of Stars, seems WPT will learn the hard way.

Also wanted to echo everybody else's views on the fairplay system, it's completely inaffective and your team in charge of it are in denial or complicit with the abusers. I'm a table starter who loves to play HU and plays with a high PFR/VPIP. Yet I'm heavily restricted and barely see any tables running in the lobby. Yet crushers who play with a lower PFR/VPIP, who don't start tables are able to routinely take the last 'VIP' seat, abusing the system. I sent a list of these abusers to your team, at least 20+ very good, winning regulars and was instantly dismissed.

I had a conversation with somebody in our security team the other day about some of the issues raised in this forum. The gist of the conversation was that even though we were doing the 'big stuff' (collusion, bots) right, smaller multi-accounting and fraud issues that slipped the net were undermining trust, and understandably so. I hope that the above post, from somebody who was banned for a clear violation of our T&C, helps reassure posters here that we are indeed getting the big decisions right.

@ ALEX GLOBAL

I've been in this business since 2009 and I won't waste too much time but as I was skimming the last post...

1. WPT Global has never offered rakeback, outside of a few small / temporary / limited experiments. We don't actually know which players are getting rakeback and which aren't because that'll all done via affiliates who are third parties.

This is intellectual dishonesty
You are the ones who send the rb per player and you have to send it according to the player's volume. You must therefore be fully aware of who receives the rb. You are insulting those who pay your wages = the players.

2. We have always discouraged affiliates from offering rakeback, and warned that if they did offer it, it would likely cause problems that might result in some players being untagged, commission changes being made, or the closure of affiliate accounts entirely.

Again, you know that affiliates in general can't entice players if the player doesn't win anything, sites like GG that have taken away a lot of market share from stars have only done so with the help of affiliates and rb offers to players

In the first phase they knew they needed affiliates and promised X, always taking a dubious stance because it's important to have a way out when the day comes to stab them in the back. On the day that either through incompetence, greed or an inability to fulfill what was agreed upon, we have to have a set of excuses that are minimally elaborated so that it looks like we're not spitting on those who pay our salaries.

In 16 years of poker, I've learned that in this business (like any other) there's something non-negotiable: trust. Once you lose it, you have nothing. Good luck

Hey Alex, this is my second attempt in this thread to report a serious bug with the PLO tables.

On this screenshot you can see that the 0.2/0.5/1(0.1)$ and 0.2/0.5/(0.1)$ 5PLO tables are full. I can't open a new table now, because on the one hand no new free 0.2/0.5/1(0.1)$ or 0.2/0.5/(0.1)$ 5PLO table appears in the lobby and on the other hand, when I click on the full tables, only the full table appears.

I hope this is halfway understandable, but it seems like you sometimes can't open more than one table of the same stake level.

I left my PC and forgot to close a 10/20/40 table I was sitting alone at. Came back 3 hours later and was still sat alone.

Since WPT is pushing for regs to start tables HU, can we start reporting HSP that opensit, play their button and then leave the table if another HSP sits? They obviously only opensit to bumhunt. Its been happening so much and Im getting tired of being buttoned

Yes, I would appreciate if it could be made clear that if it goes to headsup and you want to leave, you can't grim the other player.

Also, it's very difficult to get onto a table now with all the burner accounts. Can it be made clear that the use of seating scripts comes with a ban and confiscation of funds because there will be a bunch of players who try it. Thanks

This is not true.

I agree with this. But remember that regs on WPTG are winning over 20bb/100 before rakeback, but on GG they are losing money before rakeback. The games on GG are awful, and the games on Stars aren't much better.

The vast majority of players on WPT Global have never had rakeback, but are still making way more money than they would playing on GG with rakeback.

by Zeddu P

I hope this is halfway understandable, but it seems like you sometimes can't open more than one table of the same stake level.

Apologies, I thought I'd responded to this already. We're aware of this but it's proving difficult to fix because the issue is quite deeply buried in our tech. We know it's important though and are working on it.

by sortpuz23 P

If you banned me because i am selling program that you prohibit in wpt, what about other programs like power equilab, driver hud, gtowizard and maybe vpn? You will ban all agent and player who sell this program too?

Yep, we will.

Table starter rewards will be paid directly to players.
