The costs of trans visibility

The costs of trans visibility

Yesterday, Dylan Mulvaney broke her silence: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmulvaney/vi....

For context, this is a trans influencer who built a 10 million strong following on TikTok. She took a brand deal with budweiser to post an ad on an instagram, and the anti-trans right went absolutely ballistic, calling for a boycott, condemning the company, and to some perhaps unknowable degree it influenced that Budweiser sales dropped by a 1/4 and

. Dylan speaks more personally about the effect of the hatred on her.

What strikes me about this story is that it is just about visibility. This isn't inclusion in sports or gender-affirming care for minors, it was just that a trans person was visible. This wasn't even visibility in a TV commerical that a poor right-winger is forced to see, it was an ad on her own instagram page. We're all in our own social media algorithm influenced bubbles, but from my vantage point it really has seemed that in the last year or so things have just gotten worse for trans people and the backlash to even minor visibility is growing.

We need to do better.

I thought this was an intersex issue but haven't been following closely

The reason it's related to this thread is because it's unfair and destroying women's sport

by Willd P

Woman who has been a woman her entire life and competed as a girl when she was young is a cheater because she's continuing to compete as a woman...

There is a genuine, important discussion to be had about this but it's made so much harder to have when people are being demonised for being themselves, competing how they have done their entire life, and doing so entirely within the rules. It's bad enough but at least understandable when actual

It's cute that you pretend the bolded didn't begin the post before climbing on the outrage box

So they aren't intersex?

I read they were banned from other female boxing competitions. If thats not correct, please re read the bolded again before responding like a called for a public hanging

Kinda funny that you start off in the first post saying you haven't been falling closely, but still launch into this whole sky-is-falling narrative regardless. From what we know, this seems far from a normal case of a trans person in sport like Lia Thomas etc, and so all these claims about her being a "cheater" and destroying woman's sport seems pretty stupid.

"the reason it relates to this thread"

>My rant about cheating in womens sports<

..... Which is actually still happening and has been dismissed and minimized in this thread repeatedly. I get it, you interpret things poorly in the same direction repeatedly because it helps you with your schtick

Anyways, here's a page out of the uke playbook. (Except I'm actually admitting its a schtick which kind of deflates the effect). Oh look uke the raging misogynist is here to defend the abuse of women. In other news the sky is blue

Maybe you haven't been around for long enough or simply don't remember but I spent multiple years contributing to the various iterations of trans threads and have spent a long time looking into advantages for trans women in sport specifically - I just haven't been around much for 18 months or so. While it has been a while since I looked into it in detail I am certain in saying that there are numerous peer-reviewed studies in respectable jou

Here is one from the same time period contradicting the study that you posted. They also don't start from a biased hypothesis. I probably don't need to tell you about issues with confirmation bias in scientific studies.

Khelif clearly met the division criteria for welterweight. If people want to argue for the inclusion of testosterone testing that's another matter.

Channeling my inner hole

How do you define a woman?

lol trying to use "science" for a politically hyper controversial topic and claiming that publication bias (which is usually in favour of pro LGBT activist thesis, given academia in those field is militarily controlled by them) hurts your cause.

good time to remind that the totality of "science" written by radical leftists can be discarded in full

I'm not here to play games. We all know the difference between a women and a pretend women.

No, no, this is quite pertinent.

I was told, unequivocally, that being born with a penis makes you a man and being born with a vagina makes you a woman. I mean, with all the attention on procreation, having a uterus is incredibly pertinent, right?

Can a man birth a baby?

BTW, this is the culmination of the latest "controversy"

Moving the goal posts daily to fit the agenda. Despite evidence to the contrary we solider on in the face of adversity

Is it the chromosomes?

I've been deep in the trenches of this thread for the last 6 months

Is it the chromosomes?

I work with several guys and several girls. The guys are obviously guys and the girls are obviously girls. We try not to complicate things.

find a new, more productive hobby to obsess over. gardening, bird watching, baking, playing werewolf ... idk

For our boy Lucio

Probably fake news, but funny nonetheless

Ah damn, you were speaking to me, but then you lost me. I have like 2 posts a day which might account for 15-20 minutes on average.

Seems worth it to champion human rights but maybe not

we'll go with gametes

The habitually stunned will point to intersex as proof chromosomes don't work as if everyone has 5 fingers, 2 arms, or one head. There are birth defects or conditions.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/29633487/...

According to Piers Morgan

She was banned by the International Boxing Association from competing in the last Women’s World Championships for failing tests to meet the ‘eligibility criteria’ for participating in women’s competition.

In other words, the IBA concluded she’s not a woman and its president, Umar Kremlev, confirmed to the Russian news agency TASS it had ‘been proven’ that Khelif has XY chromosomes unlike women who have XX chromosomes.

Khelif reportedly has a condition called Swyer Syndrome which means she has some female reproductive organs but also much higher levels of testosterone than women.

Those attacking my original post you should either provide evidence this report is false or politely back pedal and humbly acknowledge my track record of consistently brilliant takes even when I'm barely trying (this story)

Thanks in advance

"Concluded shes not a woman". Wild, they call her a woman throughout.

iirc it would be illegal for UK media not to, if the individual identifies as a woman.

This Piers Morgan chap sounds like a cuck

I'm failing to understand how someone with Swyer syndrome or an equivalent DSD should be talked about in this context like a trans-identifying male who had been easily identifiable as being male-sexed their entire life. There aren't any of the latter competing at the Olympics in the women's events. All of the propaganda accounts over on Twitter are talking about how this is the result of "wokeness gone mad," when (female-sexed) women with DSDs have been competing in women's sports since women's sports were a thing. This has nothing to do with "wokeness" and is even only very tangentially related to transgenderism. Khelif is also from Algeria, and you literally can't even cross-dress there without getting arrested, or worse

People with Swyer Syndrome don't naturally produce sex hormones (because their ovaries are effectively non-functioning scar tissue), so in order to complete puberty, they require HRT. So if Khelif did have elevated testosterone relative to the women in the event, then I have to imagine it was mostly likely the result of artificial testosterone introduced after pubety, as Khelif would've at some point been administered estrogen to begin female puberty. So I think the real issue for her being banned in that case is that she was probably doping

But it doesn't seem like many people have the mental and emotional capacity to actually take a step back and identify any of these things, all they want to do is immediately jump into a "trans bad" circlejerk without any kind of nuance or reason

I honestly feel like I'm losing my mind looking at Musk and JKR tweet about this and seeing the kind of engagement it's getting. They're both extremely vile bigots who know exactly what they're doing, but so are a lot of the people on Twitter I guess

by coordi P

0% chance her nose was broken

The girl went in with no mental, and crumbled like a faulty can. Pathetic performance. On the Olympic stage no less

I'm guessing she has never been punched in the face by a male before.

That point aside, there are two issues here, both related to fairness. First of all the Algerian athlete has done nothing wrong, and should not be subjected to any personal attacks. It's clearly the fault of the IOC, who have allowed this situation to develop.

Second, males should never be allowed to compete with females in contact sports, period. There are some areas where males and females can compete fairly with each other, but this isn't it.

IOC is ultimately responsible for safeguarding all athletes, and they have failed miserably.

Yeah, your "consistently brilliant takes" that include wholly denying the reality that gender nonconforming males are often treated very poorly for simply being gender nonconforming, and that such a thing can easily produce worse mental health outcomes regardless of transgender identity. I'm not surprised that you completely ignored my post about that, because apparently all you want to do is either rant about how bad transgenderism is, or fight with people

In addition to your "brilliant take" of blindly parroting something that Piers Morgan stated on without actually looking into it yourself, simply because it affirms what you want to believe to be true - people with Swyer's syndrome typically have low levels of testosterone even for women, because they don't have functioning gonads

It's honestly kind of frightening how so many otherwise intelligent people can have that rendered much less useful due to a lack of media literacy and emotional awareness

by coordi P

Michael Phelps had advantages because his torso just happens to be the ideal shape for maximum efficiency in the water.

variation within sex =/= variation between sex.

There is large variation within sex. Simone Biles and Serena Williams are both GOATS in their respective sports, but their physical difference is much larger than the average difference between males and females.

However, just because the physical difference within sexes is large, this does not render the physical differences between sexes as non-significant. For example, the untrained strength difference between males and females is so large there is virtually no overlap (i.e., the weakest males are still stronger than most females).

Hence why we have male and female categories in sport.

my heart genuinely goes out to Imane Khelif, this entire thing is awful

IOC did her dirty the way they handled this
