2024 Fantasy Football Thread

Welcome to the 2024 fantasy season, where I'm officially addicted to best ball. I've been drafting since the end of January. Through 95 drafts, my exposures are below. The player order is based on current ADP. Some of these ADPs have been quite fluid over the last 3 months, with FAs and rookies moving the most. Most of my exposures are structurally driven, rather than player take driven. Especially at this point in the game, pre-draft.

But there are some players I simply couldn't avoid going heavy on, like McBride and Andrews in the 5th round. I'm actually quite heavy all of the top TEs, minus LaPorta and Kincaid. I also tried to make sure I had at least 1 TE by the end of round 8, with Ferguson being the last of the group.

Also took approaches like attacking Nabers and Odunze harder than MHJ, at their relative prices.

What do we like and not like?

Rookie season is also upon us. Redraft is still 3.5 months away from heating up, but there will be rookie drafts, dynasty startups, and best ball drafts leading up until then.

Good luck to all, and may injuries and variance be kind.

I'm starting to wonder if anyone knows how to rank offensive lines anymore. Saints were viewed as a bottom 3 team for example.

Btw if you had to take a bet on Ray-Ray vs Pitts for PPR points end of season, lol you'd start to get nervous.

Ray-Ray 100% snap share last week. 12 targets through 2 weeks. Bet you that's a close one. And not a good sign for Pitts.

Do we want any parts of Alec Pierce? Seems odd to have the WR8 still on waivers after week2 but I guess that's what happens when your QB is completing less than 50%, has more INT than TD and he is the 2nd option for targets on a team built around the run - oh and Josh Downs probably coming back soon.

Given all that, at what point do you look his pace of 68-1538-17 and think 'there may be some value here'?

What do we expect from Downs?

I have him in a league where I lost CMC. Kind of need to turn two good wideouts into a mediocre rb, lol

Re O-lines, I was just thinking this the other day as well bc the bears were supposed to have a mediocre o line, but not a terrible one. The only thing I could think was related to OCs. So possibly the Shanny system that kubiak is running helps olines relative to their talent and the Waldron system hurts (potentially). Not sure if that’s over thinking it or not

Oline should in theory be the easiest thing in football to predict bc it’s easy to grade abilities (pff who I think is bad at grading generally are v good at ol/dl)

Re Pitts: I may be one of the largest bag holders of Pitts this year (21% in best ball). With the caveat that it may be too early to know for sure, it certainly feels like he is a lg average te instead of this high upside stud, which is really disappointing

OJ Howard. But so much more painful.

Meanwhile Gisecki looking near a top 10 choice, lol

Interesting from Nate Tice about why offenses are struggling to beat 2 high safeties

lol, such a bad take by him.

Why do you think that?

I think scheme and OC play calling has a lot to do with how the actual o line performs.

As far as content creators I like, I still think Berry is one of the sharpest guys out there, especially when it comes to his weekly rankings. I'm glad he got away from ESPN, as I never thought highly of anyone else on their fantasy team.

I like Kerrane and his team with Legendary Upside.

I'm not a huge fan of ETR and think you can do well finding contrarian holes in their analysis, since they seem to be the most followed group out there.

Matt Harmon is pretty sharp, especially with regard to WRs.

Ben Gretch and Shawn Siegele are a fun listen too, as I like they way they think about the game. But they can ramble.

Agree on Sal and some of those other sensationalist accounts constantly posting stuff like "top 5 waiver pickups this week!" "top 5 players to buy low!" and so on. They're mostly engagement farming consensus takes.

I also like the Underdog guys, particularly Hayden. I think his rankings are pretty sharp and they do some high quality shows. Josh, Hayden, and Daigle do a weekly recap show after the games every Sunday. And Hayden and Josh do a stats versus film show each week that I think provides a lot of really good information.

Why do you think that?

Why do I think it's a bad take to ban 2 high?

Because frankly they'll figure it out. It's OK if D's get the upper hand right now. Teams will draft accordingly and it'll adjust.

Kiper said that not Nate Tice (I thought you were saying Tices analysis was on what is preventing teams from effectively beating cover 2).

I don’t think they should ban cover 2

Also I saw a pff guy that said that teams have a better epa per play against cover 2 than cover 1/3 regardless

It’s still none of them. Pacheco was an RB2 getting a majority of the work.

Also, if they really preferred Hunt, they would have already chosen him over keeping Steele and signing Perine.

Hunt isn't a guy you want as a depth signing when your #1 RB is healthy. I think they signed him in hopes he can handle most of the early down work in a few weeks. They didn't sign him before Perine because it would have created a weird dynamic for Pacheco.

I think he'll be inefficient in the run game, but will pass protect, catch the ball out of the backfield, and score more TDs than he should. There's definitely a chance he's completely washed but I think it is a good gamble by KC.

Don't think any of the three will be anything more than a flex on a consistent basis. I do think Hunt has the highest upside though.

What about every other team in the league that has a dire rb situation? Why didn’t any of them sign hunt?

It’s completely possible that Hunt isn’t trash, but all the evidence points to him being done

There's so much fantasy content out there that I'm just overwhelmed and don't know here to start.

The best thing to do is to start watching YouTube content and find people to follow on X, then start narrowing down who you like based on the results of their takes. But yeah, it's definitely overwhelming when picking who to start with.

The problem with sampling from a bunch of creators is that there's so much redundancy that I tune out.

There is, especially with general takes since there are only so many players to discuss in the first place. I mostly consolidate down to the creators who spend time doing the things I don't want to spend time doing, mainly pooling player metric data, creating charts, etc.

I find myself just subbing to three sites with content and just consuming almost all of their stuff. It's a lot of work that I jam into Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I would like to find other great content but I don't know what to cut out and there's a finite amount of time and money I'm willing to spend.

Dropped Zeke for Cam Akers after a week of unsuccessful trade attempts.

What a waste of a 10th round pick and it not only pissed me off to see his name on my roster but limited my flexibility since we have a 7 RB cap. Is Akers even gonna see the ball Sunday? maybe/probably not/who cares

JJ Zachariason. Short and to the point. No hot takes, very analytical in his projections. I also like Ron Stewart. For me, I'm not interested in ff voices talking really loudly trying to be funny, veering off topic, and turning their show into a comedy act. I just want the football talk please. Ron and JJ deliver.

The Oline thing has been an issue for years. I think so much of it has to do with coaching and how the guys work together. I remember the colts for do long were always ranked as elite in the preseason and they'd always end middle of the pack and there are always teams that are supposed to be terrible that end up surprising. It's a fun quirk I think.
Rayray the smoke signals were there in camp but that number. So gross to see a WR wearing 34.

I make at least one of these picks every year even when I tell myself not to. The veterans who have no upside and are too good to cut. I'd rather churn and burn my roster until I find someone who is a slam dunk RB/WR 1 or 2. It's not the end of the world to be stuck one week without a mediocre replacement level option. I'll sacrifice needing to start someone on the waiver one week so I can have tons of chances of getting a homerun.

Because he comes with baggage and has expectations on how much playing time he should get.

He knows the KC system and thrived in it. People overrate non-star talent and underrate opportunity. The median outcome might very well be doing absolutely nothing relevant for fantasy football. But there are paths where he becomes a top 20 RB the rest of the way.

Also, think we'll know very quickly which it will be so he won't take up a roster spot for too many weeks.

I winge about it every year but damn fantasy football was so much fun before the advent of YouTube and Twitter. You used to have to scrape the internet to find nuggets of information and was so easy to have an edge. I remember when Yahoo has an obscure report every week called "looks and touches". They were the only people tracking targets at the time and was huge for finding breakout players early on in the season. Now wires are picked clean so fast. Still fun but just don't feel like you get the rewards back as easily for the time spent. Everyone is solid now.

the tid-bit I found interesting was that Hunt was at Mahomes' wedding 2 years ago. 4 years after he was cut and still friends with the QB. Supposedly he has also maintained a line of communication with Reid.

Obviously they had to cut him when the video came out and he lied about his role but it sure appears they are willing to welcome him back with open arms.
