Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.
Thanks.

wait rafiki got banned? for what?
Dear lord, now Rafiki is banned? I posted a long critique of the moderation in response to one of your posts last week and it was deleted. The thrust was essentially that Jeff and Vic just run amok because their ideology aligns with the new mod. And if you are slightly critical of Palenstein / Hamas, you will catch a ban. Unsurprisingly reinforced even though my post was deleted.
I find it pretty funny that the direction is to post in the mod thread, but then the mod thread gets closed. Then people post in the IP thread and the posts get deleted. Then the IP thread gets locked and posts get deleted in the Mod thread.
Rinse, repeat and here we are censoring anything that doesn’t fit with the prevailing moderation ideology about the IP conflict
"Pretty funny" is not reading the mod's comments on why he's banned before jumping to conclusions. Not that I think people should be banned anyway.
Where can i read them?
ffs search CN's recent posts.
Care to fill me in on whatever new conspiracy theory is being peddled about me? There was no reason for that massive of an over reaction on his part.
No matter how transparent I am with how and why I do things, it never seems to satisfy the mob.
It was a PM. I wouldn't share it without his permission.
I'd imagine the truth lies somewhere in between his and your stories.
What's up with all the mystery and intrigue? Anyone gonna share the juicy goss?
So you shared just enough to imply that I’m a liar. Cool. Thank you 😀
It’s not very juicy. The usual complainers were complaining in here; Rafiki made a few posts gloating that he had certain people on ignore, I made a joke (not entirely without suspicion tbh) that I was beginning to wonder if it was actually Rafiki on the account. Rafiki immediately assumed I was accusing him of multiaccounting as a new poster, IMBLUEtheONE, and subsequently blew up both this thread and the IP thread will trolling about how I can’t tell Jews apart because they all look the same to me.
I locked both threads because I was and still am recovering from an illness and it was getting out of hand. The next day I wake up to these bizarre and aggressive PMs threatening that if I apologize then he won’t expose me or some nonsense and when I blew him off he came back with some weird **** that “I KNOW, you don’t think I KNOW??” I had recently been doing some IP checking in the mod forum, and I’m fairly certain that it was somehow misconstrued to him. Anyway, when that didn’t work, he said that he was going to perma, so I did it for him.
That was my experience in this. Frankly, if Rafiki had enough time to PM multiple people to tell them he was going to get banned, then he was very much aware that what he was doing was not ok behavior that would likely have that consequence. Also, and again, I am in no way obligated to tolerate any sort of abuse or harassment from individual posters.
I'm marking this down as a lie, fwiw.
free fresh
free rafki
why do you have to be so dramatic?
which part am i lying about?
What's wrong with a mod doing IP checks? What's there to expose?
I have no idea, it was all extremely bizarre
This is ****ing awful and cowardly. I’ve had my differences with CN’s modding but spreading unsubstantiated **** about people, even if just that they haven’t been honest, shouldn't happen unless you’re prepared to cite.
Well,
You certainly have your biases. If a new poster comes in blazing with pro-Islamism takes, I doubt you would start "joking" that Victor was multi-accounting. (That is something I would do, and have done, but I have my biases too)
But Rafiki completely over-reacted.
It is what it is. Always sad to see anyone that attempts to address the real world, and just doesn't just engage in bad faith, performative morality plays, get banned. But the discussions on here do seem to get him IRL upset, so maybe for the best.
And this is exactly why I'm not posting the contents here. I haven't even hinted at anything.
I have IP checked all the new posters in that thread from either side, and this is verifiable. Please stop with this.
And it wasn’t a viewpoint that inspired the joke; it was a specific behavior. If Victor started making petty quips about having everyone on ignore, I might make the same joke about Victor.
You’ve said that rafiki PMd you that CN wasn’t being honest, and for some reason you thought it acceptable to post that here, without citing. You’re just stirring up **** because your mate got banned.
rafiki pm'd me before Crossnerd's posts in the IP thread and there is nothing in his PM calling her a liar.....because she hadn't posted yet.
I said their accounts of what happened differ.
Accounts of what happened differ….jfc
Kinda did though.
scandalous
Didn't say it was scandalous. But you did hint at something.
