Both candidates support eliminating tax on tips which makes no sense to me other than it being a bribe for votes for those who depend on tips. Why should tip be treated differently than other earned incomes.

Aren’t a lot of businesses going to reduce their fees/prices and set mandatory tips? Why wouldn’t plumbers reduce their fees by 20% and require a 25% tip as the customer would pay the same amount but 20% of the plumbers income would be

by formula72 P

It wouldn't be classified as a tip. The IRS defines a tip as optional and up to the customers discretion.

The plus side here from a business standpoint is that tax free tips gives a little wiggle room for struggling restaurants and hospitality businesses to find and keep employess and to survive and not go bankrupt as there isn't much room to pay much of a wage.

I mean, I don't want to go down that rabbit hole in the election thread but this is literally what agencies look at when it comes to immigration. It isn't the fear meter of El Chapo coming across the border with Santoku looking to stab someone on Pier 39 that dictates any of this - which is why it always looks like a circus at the border.

Tax free tips is a great idea for essentially everyone which is why it's taken seriously by both sides. And would fit in nicely with how things are likely to change or progress or how ever you want to call it for the future.

Michigan and Wisconsin, two crucial battleground states,
have denied Kennedy's request to remove himself from their presidential ballots

Not good for Trump?

Kennedy said he was not formally ending his campaign and that he intends to remain
on the ballot in states where he poses little to no threat of splitting the vote with the GOP nominee.

Can he do that?

Good. The socialist left should lose their platform for being too stupid to live. AOC at least learned how to play nice with the party.

He said that during the time where immigration was well controlled and crime rates for the illegal and legal immigrants were far lower than native population. Now the illegal immigrant to native population crime rate is much closer as a ratio, although illegal immigrant crime rate is still lower and legal im

I think my main problem is that I am not a partisan racist.

On the tax free tip discussion, I think it would have to come in conjunction with ending mandatory tipping eg service charges, or not exempting any mandatory figure placed on a service. I would actually be in favor of ending the practice of paying more than the sticker price by making businesses factor in taxes into the price of widgets or services, tbh, but I don’t know if that idea is going to be worked into a tax free tipping scheme or not so can’t say it is fully related to such a policy discussion.

JD is about as charming as DeSantis.
What's with the eye make up?
Left over from his cross dressing days?

If there are currently about 7 toss up states in the presidential election, then Pennsylvania with it's 19 electoral college votes is the biggest total up for grabs. If all the toss up states are within the margin of error and truly toss ups, then whoever takes PA has about a 65% chance of winning the white house.

Project 2025? Sounds more like Project 1825…
when women “knew their place” and minorities were sold like cattle.

Project 2025 IS NOT the blueprint for the next Trump term.
It is the blueprint for the next Republican administration whoever their leader might be.

Trump Executives dump their Truth Social stock

Investing in DJT stock is a way to give illegal contributions to Trump directly. The company has no value.

that's why people thought Harris would have picked Shapiro.

anyway PA is the main reason why both campaigns talk about oil and gas extraction more than usual, same as Nevada is the whole reason the "no tax on tips" thing is prominent.

They would’ve picked him but her husband is of the same faith and that has bad optics

Wow Kamala needs a handler in tonight's interview as she can not be trusted by herself even with a Democratic ally interviewing her.
That is the one thing I respect about Gavin Newsom he will go on an y interview and perform even Hannity and Brett Baier

I find it somewhat amusing to see how trumpers spin every little thing.

Why would you say tax free tips is good for everyone? I would say it is bad for anyone whose income is not dependent on tips since that means the gov't will either print more money (creating more inflation) or raise taxes somewhere else because it is unlikely they are going to cut govt spending.

I'm guessing that if she interviewed on her own they would be screaming that she's trying to hide walz.

how about the ultra wealthy and the corporations sitting on trillions

It’s good for 99.9999999999% of the population if we raise taxes on the wealthy.

I don't recall a time that a major party presidential candidate has hid from the media for this long outside of biden. Most of them do a bunch of interviews and answer unscripted questions and to my knowledge not one has ever be accused of hiding their VP nominee.

Your answer for where to get more tax money will always be - Let's discourage hard work and take more from the people who are responsible for bettering our lives.

The fact that you can't understand that a candidate for president who never received one vote and was anointed by the Dems ( smart strategy no doubt) and has not done an interview since she was nominated and has flipped on many policies she stood for on 2019 and 2020 and does not have the confidence to handle an interview on CNN with a friendly host by herself is a problem. # demcultist

I am surprised they have not hidden her in Joe's basement

Yeah, those waitresses just lolligag all day and ruin everyone's lives.

People that rely on tip money aren't hiding the money under their mattress or depositing it in Swiss Bank accounts. The money pretty much goes right back into circulation where it is taxed multiple times, before ending up with someone like Bezos where it just sits and isn't taxed.

Given how middle class and lower people dont save money, and everything they spend their money on is taxed anyways, I never really followed the logic the problem is poor and middle class people dont spend enough on taxes.

I doubt taxing unrealized gains is the solution to the problem, but I think the general problem that people who hoard tremendous amount of wealth and dont pay taxes is a bigger problem than people who live paycheck to paycheck get part of their income tax free.

I suspect the real solution to the problem is for govt to spend less, but that is just me.

and yet...................

she's still an overwhelming better choice than the lying conman

The wealthy own corporations outright and they own/control corporations via the stock market

Wage theft is the largest amount of theft in the country. It is more than larceny and more than civil forfeiture (police stealing)

So it is accurate to say that the rich are the largest thieves in the country.

Do you still think they are responsible for bettering our lives ? Bettering peoples lives doesn’t make you rich so I’m not sure why you would think that.

Me too. It was all that was needed to trounce Trump in 2020.

Kamala Harris has decided on the tan suit method to win the white house over the hide in Joe's basement method, but either would work fine.

Yes, "Tan Suit Gate" was 10 years ago yesterday.

She probably should be out "honoring" our fallen servicemen, eh?
