Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Victor: against giving starving people food, against moving civilians from places that are likely to be bombed, against quality information because... I'm actually not sure.

And he's calling me depraved.

I am not against giving starving people food. I am against the hunger games level competitions we have seen where people from the food drops via Israeli targeted ambushes, drowning, crushing, strangulation.

the air drops are some of the most depraved things I have seen in my life and it is no surprise that liberals support them. you people have ability to relate to those on the ground.

and you have no vision as to why they are placing this bandaid over a gaping gun wound in the first place.

That is an absolutely outrageous take. Saying that giving food to starving people is good in no way excuses the actions taken which caused them to starve; actions which I have been very vocally against for months.

If the starving people on the ground think they are better off not trying to reach food, then they do not need to attempt to feed themselves. Depriving people of food is disgusting and depraved. Any deaths caused by the situation is awful, but to suggest that just letting them starve is better is ridiculous.

by Victor P

this cant be true. rafiki told me that they would never occupy Gaza and that was totally not the goal of this whole thing.

Israel will have to occupy Gaza until a pro Israel government is put into place. It's gonna be check point city for Gazans for a long while. The important thing will be the threat from this area will be neutralized. I think controls will be similar but probably tighter than cities in the West Bank.

How many hospitals did Jordan drop 1,000 lb bombs on?

Not as many as the terrorists inside Gaza accidentally did.

Why can't Vic see the bright side of ethnic cleansing? You get a handy tent, and maybe even food!

I'm not crowing over anything. I put a tweet into the thread that was likely the best available info on the subject, and then was insulted for it by Victor. I asked him to explain his views and he refused. I've done nothing in bad taste, mischaracterizing my posts IS in bad taste. Get over yourself, as YOU would say.

I didn't say you were crowing. I wasn't talking about you.

have you ever listened or read what Palestinians and Gazans say about the air drops?

Thanks to Speaker Johnson and all the Congressmen in attendance today at Columbia. Congress is now getting involved. This is gonna get ugly for the pro Hamas protestors.

Not gonna lie. I chuckled IRL at this tweet.

Not really. If you and Trolly are on the same side of an issue, it is pretty much a guarantee the opposite side is the correct one.

Not going to lie. I am looking forward to the protestors doing their thing through commencement, and will be disappointed if they are cleared out in the near future and that is the end of it. Top notch entertainment.

They are just peacefully protesting their support for Hamas.

Cowards covering their faces

Building a camp so Israel can destroy thousands of buildings and kill thousands of people and leave tens of thousands of people homeless (low estimates all around) still doesn't sound good even if you're right in your argument that they're not trying to kill everyone.

Do I dare hope that only a few hundred young children are killed?

There are refugee camps all over the middle east/ world. What's one more? At least this one is preemptive lol

I asked a question earlier that no one responded to. I think people here define "Zionism" quite differently. For one, you are implying the definition is "Jewish state", but I would call it a "Jewish homeland", which is certainly what it originally meant and is not the same thing.

I'm way behind in this thread. Early on if I recall, Mets seemed to make it pretty clear anti-zionism = anti-Semitism. I thought that was completely ridiculous but I guess it depends on your definition of Zionism. For me over the last 20 years being a Zionist meant the supporting the continued expansion of Israel. Like I would consider the west bank settlers as hardcore Zionists and don't see how opposing them is being anti-semetic. Mets seemed to convey Zionism meant the belief of having a Jewish state, so if you were against Zionism, then you're against Jewish people having a place of their own and self determination. I'm sure also some hyperbolic remarks about stuff.
Anyways, it did slow me down immediately dismissing anti-zionism = anti-Semitism as I may not know how that person defines Zionism.
Still have 100 pages or so to catch up so not sure this has been settled/addressed.

by microbet P

Do you think that Black people were sometimes dismissed or their loyalty was questioned because they supported Trump? What do you think about that?

And this was pretty gold

Once upon a time there was a conference of Zionists. There were some who felt that Israel/Palestine should be one state with Jews and Arabs all as a democracy and I mean back before the division and war of 1948. Unfortunately that side lost the vote, but that didn't mean they stopped being Zionists. Over time Israel has moved more away from their position, but it hasn't disappeared.

This doesn't tell the whole story, but it's pretty interesting.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biltmore...

The program has been described by a number of historians as "a virtual coup d’état" within Zionism since the movement's more moderate leaders were replaced with leaders with more aggressive goals.

Idk about mets, but there was recently a discussion where an Israeli felt sure that every anti-Zionist meant that Jews could not exist in Israel at all and he says that's the way pretty much all Israelis interpret anti-Zionism.

Not blaming the hour for this thread-death.

by Crossnerd P

And what’s the accusation exactly?

Well, what I inferred from his use of "Jews" in quotes was that the Jews in question weren't considered "real" Jews, due to them possibly being anti Zionist or merely critical of Israel, which again I don't think is a justified comment to make as Jews having differing opinions hardly make them somehow not real Jews.
You seemed to think that was the accusation too as you specifically mentioned the quotes thing, which you regarded as heinous, iirc.

hmm, who coulda guessed
